European Union

1. What is it?
Economic and political association formed by European countries that
have delegated part of their sovereignty to common institutions to
democratically make decisions on matters of common interest.

2. When and where was founded?


It was established with the entry into force of the Maastricht
Treaty on November 1, 1993, in Maastricht, the Netherlands.

3. Where's its headquarter?


The EU headquarters are in Brussels

4. How many Countries?


The EU currently has 27 member states. Some of them are: Austria,
Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland,
France, Germany, Greece, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Estonia and France.

5. Objectives
The objectives of the EU include the promotion of peace, stability,
prosperity, economic cooperation, protection of human rights and the
creation of a single European market.

6. Main dates
- April 18, 1951: Treaty of Paris. Established the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC),
which was the first step towards European integration.

- March 25, 1957: Treaty of Rome. This treaty created the European Economic Community
(EEC) and the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM).

- July 1, 1967: Treaty of Brussels, which merged the ECSC, EEC and EURATOM treaties.

- November 1, 1993: Maastricht Treaty, which transformed the EEC into the European Union.
