A spreadsheet is a type of computer
application that loves numbers and
calculations. The first electronic
spredsheet was named Visicalc, short
for visual calculator, and was created
in 1979 for the Apple personal
computer.
Editing and
formatting data in a
spreadsheet
When editing and formatting data in a spreadsheet,
you can directly modify cell contents or use the
formula bar for controlled edits. Format data by
adjusting font styles, size, color, alignment, borders,
and background. Insert or delete rows and columns
as needed. Sort and filter data to organize and
display information more effectively. Ulitize
formulas and functions for calculations and
analysis. Taking these actions will result in a well
organised, visually appealing, and functional
spreadsheets.
Using cell reference
Using cell reference let us
add the numeric values
given in the cells B3, C3, D3.
follow these steps :
1) select the cell where
you want to insert the
formula, cell E3.
2) Type = and enter the cell
references. For ex =B3 +
C3 + D3. You will notice
that the formula
automatically appears in
the formula bar as well.
Each cell reference
appears in a different
colour.
3) Press enter. The
calculated result will
appear in the cell E3.
4) Fill the remaining cells
of the total column
using the auto fill
feature.
Place the pointer on the
fill handle of cell E3.
Click and drag the
pointer through cell E7.
If any change is made in the
cells B3, C3, D3, then the
excel will automatically
changes the result in the
cell E3.
