2 WRITING: AN ARTICLE

Write AN ARTICLE of about 200 words for a school magazine giving tips about HOW TO
KEEP SAFE IF YOU GO HIKING IN THE MOUNTAINS. Use the following ideas to
organize your article:

1) Think of a good title, and one or two introductory sentences before you explain your
tips.
2) Think of a few tips, divide them into two or three groups and put them into a logical
order. Don’t just enumerate a list of tips: relate them by using appropriate linkers.
3) Use appropriate and varied language to give advice and give reasons.
Please be honest. The article must be entirely yours. Don’t get any external help apart
from a dictionary, your textbook and the explanations on how to write an article.

Hiking in the mountains offers an exciting adventure, but

ensuring safety is paramount to truly enjoy the
experience. Proper preparation is the cornerstone of a
successful mountain expedition. Before embarking on
your journey, check the weather forecast and trail
conditions thoroughly. Equip yourself with essentials
such as sturdy boots, layered clothing, a detailed map
and a reliable compass.

When you go into the wilderness, it is essential that you

follow marked paths so you don't get lost. Take plenty of
water, energy snacks and a basic first aid kit to deal with
any unexpected events. Make it a priority to inform
someone you trust of your hiking plans and expected
return time to increase your safety net in case of incident.
Respecting wildlife is not only ethical, but also contributes to
your safety. Keep a safe distance and be prepared to seek
shelter in unpredictable weather conditions. A waterproof
jacket and extra layers are essential for changing mountain
conditions.

Pay attention to the terrain you are walking on to avoid slips

and falls, and consider hiking with a partner or in a group for
safety. In the unfortunate event of an injury, having assistance
is crucial. By following these guidelines, you can ensure a safe
and enjoyable mountain adventure, minimizing the risks and
maximizing the thrill of the outdoors.
