1. STRIP 2" OF CABLE JACKET AND SHIELD FROM CABLE (TWISTED SHIELDED PAIR) TO EXPOSE INNER INSULATED WIRES.
2. APPLY A MINIMUM 0.75" OF HEAT SHRINK TUBING (ITEM 6) OVER END OF CABLE JACKET. (FIGURE 2)
3. CUT A WINDOW (MAX. SIZE 0.35") 5.25" FROM END OF EXPOSED WIRES. THIS WINDOW WILL EXPOSE THE CABLE SHIELD. MAKE SURE
NOT TO DAMAGE THE STRANDS OF THE SHIELD. (FIGURE 2) 4.0+/-.25" FROM END
4. ADD A PIECE OF BRAID (ITEM 8) TO CONTACT THE SHIELD AT THE WINDOW AND INSTALL A SOLDER SLEEVE (ITEM 7) OVER IT SO
THAT THE BRAID SOLDERS TO THE SHIELD. THE BRAID MUST EXIT THE END OF THE SOLDER SLEEVE NEAREST THE CONNECTOR.
NOTE: TINNING THE SHIELD BRAID END WILL FACILITATE THE FLOW OF SOLDER WHEN THE SOLDER SLEEVE IS INSTALLED.
5. STRIP THE ENDS OF THE TWO EXPOSED WIRES AND CRIMP THE SOCKET CONTACTS IN PLACE. (FIGURE 3)
6. USING A SCRIBE OR AWL, CREATE A HOLE IN THE OVER-BRAID (ITEM 75) BY SPREADING THE STRANDS SO THAT THE WIRES CAN SLIP
THROUGH, 4" FROM THE END. CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN TO NOT BREAK ANY OF THE STRANDS. (FIGURE 4)
7. CREATE A SECOND HOLE, 2.5" FURTHER FROM THE END, IN THE OVER-BRAID FOR THE CABLE SHIELD BRAID TO SLIP THROUGH. (FIG.4) 2.5 +/- 0.25"
8. SLIDE THE OVER-BRAID OVER THE PREPARED SHIELDED CABLE SO THAT THE CONTACTS AND WIRES EXIT THE HOLE NEAREST THE END
AND THE SHIELD BRAID EXITS THE HOLE FURTHER FROM THE END. LEAVE 1.5 +/-.25" EXPOSED WIRE (FIGURE 5)
9. DOUBLE BACK THE SHIELD BRAID THEN BRING THE END FORWARD APPROX. 1" FROM THE HOLE. CENTER A SOLDER SLEEVE OVER THIS

10. WRAP silicone FUSION TAPE (ITEM 5) OVER THE (DOUBLED-BACK) EXPOSED SHIELD BRAID SO IT IS FLAT, CONTACTING THE
OVER-BRAID. COVER THE SHIELD BRAID COMPLETELY. (FIGURE 7)
11. CRIMP A RING TERMINAL (ITEM 61) TO THE END OF THE OVER-BRAID. THE BRAID WILL NEED TO BE FOLDED OR TWISTED TOGETHER
FOR IT TO FIT IN THE TERMINAL FOR PROPER CRIMPING. DO NOT TRIM BRAID STRANDS. (FIGURE 7)
12. PLACE EXPANDABLE SLEEVING (ITEM 76) OVER THE OVER-BRAIDED ASSEMBLY. SECURE THE END OVER THE EXPOSED SOLDER SLEEVE
WITH A TIE WRAP (ITEM 38) OR LACING CORD (ITEM 77).
13. ENSURE THAT THE WIRE MARKINGS, INCLUDING WIRE NUMBERS AND EWIS SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS, ARE LOCATED ON THE OUTSIDE
OF THE ASSEMBLY EVERY 18”.
14. WRAP ALL THE NON-SHIELDED WIRES IN THE HARNESS WITH silicone FUSION TAPE (ITEM 5).
15. INSERT THE CONTACTS INTO THE APPROPRIATE CONNECTOR LOCATIONS.
16. DOUBLE BACK THE OVER-BRAID SHIELDS SO THAT THEY ARE UNDER THE BACKSHELL CLAMP AND ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TAPED
BUNDLE SO THAT THEY MAKE ELECTRICAL CONTACT WITH THE CLAMP WHEN IT IS TIGHTENED DOWN. (FIGURES 8 & 9)
17. THE RING TERMINAL WILL GO EITHER UNDER THE HEAD OF THE SCREW OR ON THE SCREW BETWEEN THE BACKSHELL HALVES
DEPENDING ON THE SPACING NEEDED. WASHERS CAN ALSO BE USED ON THE SCREW BETWEEN THE BACKSHELL HALVES FOR EXTRA
SPACING IF NEEDED.
18. THE DOUBLED BACK OVER-BRAIDS MUST BE CLAMPED TIGHT ENOUGH TO RESIST MOVEMENT AND CONTACT BACKSHELL. USE EXTRA
silicone FUSION TAPE ON THE NON-SHIELDED WIRE BUNDLE AS NEEDED TO TIGHTEN THE FIT OR WASHERS AS NEEDED TO LOOSEN
THE FIT. REFER TO FIGURE 9 FOR THE COMPLETED ASSEMBLY WITH ONE OVER-BRAIDED CABLE.

THE BULKHEAD. THIS MAY BE ACCOMPLISHED BY USE OF A SOLDER SLEEVE (ITEM 7) TO SPLICE A NEW PIECE OF
OVER-BRAID (ITEM 75) TO THE EXISTING. REFER TO FIGURE 1.
1. USING A SCRIBE OR AWL, CREATE A HOLE IN THE EXISTING OVER-BRAID APPROX. 10"-15" FROM THE END.
2. RUN ONE CABLE OUT THE HOLE.
3. CREATE A HOLE IN THE NEW PIECE OF OVER-BRAID 1" FROM THE END.
4. FLATTEN THE 1" SECTION TO CREATE A "TAIL".
5. RUN THE CABLE INTO THE HOLE AND THROUGH THE NEW PIECE OF OVER-BRAID.
6. SLIDE A SOLDER SLEEVE OVER THIS 1" "TAIL" AND THE EXISTING OVER-BRAID, THEN ATTACH THEM TOGETHER
USING THE SOLDER SLEEVE.
7. COVER THE JOINT WITH SILICONE FUSION TAPE (ITEM 5).
8. ADD A TIE WRAP (ITEM 38) 1" TO 1.5" FROM THE NEW JOINT TO PROVIDE SUPPORT. REFER TO FIGURE 1.
TO ACHIEVE THE REQUIRED LENGTH OF OVER-BRAID TO REACH THE FORWARD BULKHEAD CONNECTORS, IT MAY BE
NECESSARY TO SPLICE A NEW (EXTENSION) PIECE OF OVER-BRAID (ITEM 75) TO THE EXISTING.
THIS MAY BE ACCOMPLISHED BY USE OF A SOLDER SLEEVE (ITEM 7) TO SPLICE THE TWO SECTIONS TOGETHER.
1. AGAIN, CREATE A HOLE 1" FROM THE END OF A NEW PIECE OF OVER-BRAID TO CREATE A 1" TAIL.
2. ATTACH TO THE EXISTING OVER-BRAID USING A SOLDER SLEEVE AS DESCRIBED ABOVE. REFER TO FIGURE 1.
ENSURE EACH CABLE IS COMPLETELY COVERED IN OVER-BRAID. COVER THE JOINTS WITH SILICONE FUSION TAPE,
(ITEM 5)
PLACE EXPANDABLE SLEEVING (ITEM 76) OVER ALL OVER-BRAIDED ASSEMBLIES. SECURE THE ENDS WITH A TIE WRAP
(ITEM 38), LACING CORD (ITEM 77), OR SILICONE FUSION TAPE (ITEM 5).
