Diversity in the workplace refers to the range of distinctions that individuals within an

organization have. It refers to people's distinct differences in terms of their race, gender,

ethnicity, age, religion, sexual orientation, citizenship status, time spent in the military, and

physical and mental health. My current perspective on workplace diversity is that it should be

the standard in every workplace. Even though many businesses have had policies and strategies

to promote workplace diversity for many years, many haven't even implemented them yet.

Diversity management is improving, but not at the rate it should be. Although diversity

management has improved since certain laws and statutes were put in place, there are still

many cases where it shows otherwise.

White men have held the position of privilege in the United States since the dawn of

time. They were given preference in all decisions, including hiring and promotion.

Disadvantaged groups have, in my opinion, recently been treated more equitably, but when it

comes to hiring practices, this is unknown. I think this because only recruiters are aware of the

true reasons why a candidate is not chosen for a position. It goes without saying that everyone

should be more considerate of the needs and differences of others, but a lot of people choose

to do otherwise. White men are still the privileged class today but diversity in the workplace is

getting better. Any issues brought to light are taken seriously and that promotes a brighter

future.

Executive Order 11478 is one of the orders passed to aid in the enforcement of laws to

better manage diversity. Executive Order 11478 of the federal government aims to end

employment discrimination based on national origin, sexual orientation, age, disability, or

parental status as well as to ensure equal opportunities in employment. The primary goal is to
promote the full fulfillment of equal employment opportunities through continuous actions in

each executive sector and agency. The recruiting, training, career advancement, and treatment

of employees are all covered by this equal opportunity policy, which must be a key part of all

personnel policies and practices. Despite the fact that the Equal Employment Opportunity

Commission established these laws, there are still many instances where the laws are ignored.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibited employment discrimination based on race,

color, religion, sex, or national origin, was another law that was passed. It outlawed segregation

in public places. It is regarded as one of the most significant legislative successes of the civil

rights movement. Despite the 1964 Civil Rights Act and other laws, I think there is still work to

be done for the country to realize its objectives of equality and opportunity for all of its citizens.

Yes, there are laws in place, but the real problem is what happens behind closed doors. Racism

still persists today, but we can only hope that will change. People still choose to discriminate

against others despite the laws. Thankfully, the law protects those people affected.

Overall, there are many ways that the federal government outlaws anything other than

diversity in the workplace, with the goal of everyone having equal opportunity. Diversity

management has gotten better over time, especially in recent years, but there is a lot of work

that still needs to be done. I believe that my generation, gen z, will pave the way for a better

future. I do expect the future of diversity management to be a lot better than it is today. There

are various methods to support diversity in the workplace, and raising awareness is the first

step in doing so, which Gen Z’ers are not afraid to do and leads to a positive outlook in the

future.
