Start date: September 18, 2023

End date: September 22, 2023

A. Problem
Potatoes and Calamansi extract are known for their potential skin benefits, including skin
whitening and nourishment. However, we need scientific research to validate their effectiveness
and safety in skincare applications.

B. Goals
The goal of this research is to investigate the skin whitening and nourishing properties of
Potatoes (Solanum tuberosum) and Calamansi Extract and provide evidence for their use in
skincare products.

C. Outcome
The research will result in the development of a skincare formulation derived from Potatoes
(Solanum tuberosum) and Calamansi Extract, providing a natural, eco-friendly, and effective
alternative to chemical-based skincare products. This will be designed to offer skin whitening
and nourishing properties that are validated through scientific evidence and made to enhance
the well-being of individuals who seek safer and more sustainable skincare solutions.

D. Hypothesis
We hypothesize that Potatoes and Calamansi Extract will show skin whitening and nourishing
properties due to their high content of vitamin C, antioxidants, and natural exfoliating agents.
Additionally, we also expect that these natural ingredients will be safe to use as skincare
products.
Procedure:
First, the researchers study the components of the researched ingredients that will be used to
create the cream. Then, properly extract the needed nutrients and test if the extract will properly
do its effect with its properties. Then we will make its prototype to test on skin and to test if it will
have allergic reactions based on its properties and improve it through trial and error. Lastly, after
completing multiple tests, make the desired final product.

Risk and Safety:

The risk of using Potatoes as a whitening product can increase skin sensitivity to sunlight.
Catecholase, one of the natural enzymes and acids found in potatoes, may aid in skin
whitening. Even so, these substances can be harsh on delicate skin and in some people, it may
result in irritation, redness, or even allergic reactions. On the other hand, the risk of using
Calamansi extract as a whitening product, calamansi is acidic, some people especially those
with delicate or damaged skin can experience irritation, redness, burning, or even allergic
responses. To prevent the result of allergic reactions, we must check for any negative
responses, and do a patch test on a small area of skin. We will ensure that the potatoes and
calamansi being used for skincare are clean and contaminant-free.
