 METHOD STATEMENT FOR HORIZONTAL DRAIN

1. PREPARATION AND SETTING OUT

a) Setting out the positioning of horizontal drain and marked on site at the specified
location as per Consulting Engineer’s Drawings.
b) The installation of horizontal drain including drilling and pipe installation shall be
carried out in accordance with the Consulting Engineer’s Specification.
c) Working platform for horizontal drain works shall be set up with scaffolding.
d) Scaffolding are placed in a cross position, supported by another unit placed parallel to
the slope.

2. DRILLING OF BOREHOLE
a) Portable drill rig with temporary staging and drag bit shall be used.
b) Temporary staging is erected as working platform for portable drilling rig, which can
be moved manually.
c) The grid position of horizontal drain shall be marked on the existing slope once the
working platform has been prepared.
d) Position drilling machine on the setting out point marked on site with specified
inclination upward into the slope and drill 100mm diameter borehole to the depth
required.
e) The entry point of drilling shall be at the lowest level from the berm drain after
considering the machine height and inclination positioning.
f) Once encountered rock / solid rock or reaching the required length, the drilling process
shall be terminated by the confirmation and instruction from the consultant.

3. FABRICATION OF SLOTTED UPVC PIPE WRAPPED WITH GEOTEXTILE

a) UPVC pipes to be used with diameter of 50mm.
b) Cutting of slots in UPVC pipes shall be done with motorized grinder.
c) The size of slots and spacing shall be as specified in the construction drawing.
d) The UPVC pipe shall be wrapped around with geotextile Polyfelt TS20 sheet (or
equivalent).
e) Wrapping of geotextile with lapping shall be with galvanized wire.

4. INSERTION OF WRAPPED AND SLOTTED UPVC PIPES

a) Upon completion of drilling boreholes, immediately insert the fabricated UPVC pipes
into the boreholes.
b) Approximate 25mm length of the fabricated UPVC pipes shall be extended out at the
edge of the boreholes.
