Narrative Report on the Implementation of Catch Up Friday

Introduction

San Juan Elementary School took a unique approach to Catch-Up Friday in accordance with the
rules established by the Department of Education (DepEd) in Memorandum No. 001, s. 2024. LES
embraced the spirit of this mandate by dedicating the full day to reading as part of the DEAR (DRop
Everything and Read) initiative. Recognizing the individuality of each student's learning approach, San
classified students according to their reading levels. This careful categorization allowed the school to
personalize activities, ensuring that every kid could participate in meaningful learning experiences on Catch-
Up Friday. On Catch-Up Friday, San Juan Elementary School halted regular lessons to engage the entire
school in a reading-focused day. The DEAR day allowed each kid, regardless of reading ability, to have a
personalized plan for the day based around the love of reading. The activities were developed to fit the
pupils' reading levels. For frustration readers, teacher prepare colorful picture books, short and simple
stories. Instructional readers participated in peer and group reading sessions, while independent readers were
given more challenging materials.
Teachers in Grade 2 planned and assisted one another in developing the class program, teaching
guide, materials to be used in class, and games appropriate for each student's reading ability. Catch up
Friday inspires the pupils to appreciate reading and enjoys each activity provided by the teachers.
