CORRELATIVE ANATOMY

SPINAL CORD MUST KNOWS

 Most Caudal part of the CNS


 Extends from BASE of the skull to the 1st LUMBAR
vertebrae
 Where does the spinal cord ends?
o Adults: L1-L2
o Newborns: L3

 Gray matter- inside


 White matter- outside

 Surrounded by 3 meninges
o Dura mater
o Arachnoid mater
o Pia mater Blood supply of SC
 Enlargements
 Arteries
o Cervical
o Anterior spinal arteries
 Origin of Brachial plexus ( C5-C6)
o Posterior spinal arteries
upper brachial plexus
o Radicular arteries
o Lumbar
 Veins
 Origin of Lumbar plexus
o Drain into internal vertebral venous plexus
 Abdominal aneurysm
o Location: below the renal artery during
repair, there are possibility that Artery of
Adamkiewicz can be damaged, anterior
spinal artery supplies the anterior 2/3 while
posterior spinal artery supplies posterior
1/3. Patient post operation Paresthesia of
both legs

 ANTERIOR SPINAL ARTERIES


o Arises: vertebral artery
o Supplies: Anterior 2/3
 Remember:
o Cortiospinal tract: Motor
o Spinothalamic tract: Sensory

 ONLY ANTERIOR 2/3 affected


 Accommodates: not REACT
