SUBJECT ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY II

MANIPUR- The Jewel of India

The word "Manipur" is made-up of two Sanskrit words (Maṇi), which means jewel and (Pur),
which means land/place/abode, Manipur is translated as "Jewelled land".

STUDENT WISE ROLE DISTRIBUTION-Group formation and announcement by the


teacher.
STUDENT 1- To Research on the
important Mineral Resources found in
Manipur, their uses and the role of mining
in the economic development of the state.
To draft a well labelled Mineral map of
Manipur and collate the entire information
on A4 size sheet.

STUDENT 2- To gather information on


names of State Symbols like State bird,
animal, plant, tree and its cultural, regional,
mythological significance.
Points: Habit, habitat, life cycle,
conservation strategies, traditional uses
e.g., for obtaining dyes, Ayurveda etc. (400
words)
To compile the data on A4 Size sheet with
pictures of State bird, animal, plant, tree
showcasing their habitat and roles in
ecology, cultural and mythological
significance.
STUDENT 3- Using Manipuri Tribal Art form which
includes textile weaving, block printing and hand-
embroidery, Papier mache, bamboo and cane
work, learners will make an artefact/collage of the
Biodiversity in Manipur. This will be presented on a
A4 size sheet/ Fabric (handkerchief size).

STUDENT 4- To prepare a table of the animals and


birds found in the National Parks
and Wild life sanctuaries in
Manipur on A4 size sheet.

● Acquire information about important minerals, State bird, State Animal, State flower and
State tree of Manipur.
● understand their cultural, mythological and religious significance and build up
interdisciplinary connections.
● analyze on various ways these state symbols are contributing to the economy,
significance of the products obtained from state flower and tree.
● enrich themselves with awareness on national parks and sanctuaries contributing to the
conservation of wild life.
● represent the biodiversity of Manipur in the form of Manipuri Tribal Art collage on A4
size sheet and will appreciate the simplicity and beauty of the art form.
