Introduction:

It’s been a year since Russia invaded Ukraine, and the battle still continues. Military and civilian deaths
and injuries on both countries have been estimated in the hundreds of thousands, and millions more
Ukrainians have been displaced. What set the stage for today’s conflict?

The two countries’ shared heritage goes back more than a thousand years to a time when Kyiv, now
Ukraine’s capital, was at the center of the first Slavic state, Kyivan Rus, the birthplace of both Ukraine
and Russia. In A.D. 988 Volodymyr the Great, the pagan prince of Novgorod and grand prince of Kyiv,
accepted the Orthodox Christian faith and was baptized in the Crimean city of Chersonesus. From that
moment on, Russian leader Vladimir Putin recently declared, “Russians and Ukrainians are one people, a
single whole.”

Ukraine was the center of the first eastern Slavic state, Kyivan Rus, which during the 10th and 11th
centuries was the largest and most powerful state in Europe. Weakened by internecine quarrels and
Mongol invasions, Kyivan Rus was incorporated into the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and eventually into
the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The cultural and religious legacy of Kyivan Rus laid the foundation
for Ukrainian nationalism through subsequent centuries. A new Ukrainian state, the Cossack Hetmanate,
was established during the mid-17th century after an uprising against the Poles. Despite continuous
Muscovite pressure, the Hetmanate managed to remain autonomous for well over 100 years. During the
latter part of the 18th century, most Ukrainian ethnographic territory was absorbed by the Russian
Empire.

western Ukraine. In December 2021, Russia called United States and NATO to prevent Ukraine from
joining NATO in the future. Making this short, United States is funding Ukraine's military aid as long as
they can. While Russia has turned to countries like North Korea and Iran for military equipment.

the chance again not to loose their country as they counteroffensive over Russian troops on Ukraine's
territory. Also 90% of the Ukraine's building and infrastructures are severely damage and destroyed.

In conclusion, Putin the Russia's president wanted to go back in the Soviet Union Era wherein they're
more powerful to hold the Ukraine.
