Model CDC-4
Conventional Detector Card
INTRODUCTION The Model CDC-4 from Siemens Industry, Inc., is a card that
allows conventional detectors to be used on the FireFinder-XLS
system. It provides four Class A or Class B conventional detec-
tion zones. Each zone can support two-wire photoelectric or
ionization compatible smoke detectors and an unlimited number
of normally open circuit closure devices. The module also
supports Siemens Fire Safety flame and beam detectors. The
relay base, remote lamp and audible base may also be used with
the CDC-4. The CDC-4 uses one network address on the
FireFinder-XLS system. It has diagnostic LED indicators showing
module status and the status of each zone.
OPERATION Activation of any device on the circuit initiates a zone alarm and
causes any previously programmed functions to operate. Any
circuit in an alarm or trouble condition is displayed on the PMI/
PMI-2.

Any or all of the CDC-4 circuits may be programmed to operate with Alarm Verifica-
tion. This allows the automatic verification of alarm conditions caused by smoke
detectors in order to prevent nuisance alarms. For further information, refer to the
FireFinder-XLS Manual, P/N 315-033744.
When upgrading the firmware in the CDC-4, be sure to check the PC board version.
Version 2.0 and above firmware are only compatible with PC board P/N 580-034888.
If version 2.0 or above firmware is uploaded into the older version of the CDC-4, the
PMI/PMI-2 displays “ROM SW Version Error”. The PC board revision number is
printed on the back of the CDC-4 board.
Controls and Indicators The front panel of the CDC-4 contains one reset switch, sixteen LEDs, and three
HNET address switches as shown in Figure 1
A reset switch is located on the top of the front panel. Pushing the reset switch re-
initializes the CDC-4 operation (similar to a cold boot).
The LEDs follow the reset switch and their functions are defined as follows:
Three rotary dial switches at the bottom of the front panel are used to set the HNET
network address of the CDC-4.
PRE-INSTALLATION The network address switches must be set prior to inserting the card into the CC-5
(refer to Figure 1):
Network Address Switches: Set the three-digit HNET network address for the
CDC-4 using the three rotary dial address switches located near the bottom of the
HUNDREDS
front panel. (Refer to Figure 1 for the location of the switches.) The address for the
TENS
CDC-4 must be the same as the address selected for it in the Zeus Programming
ONES Tool. To set the address, turn the pointers on each of the three dials to the numbers
HNET
for the selected address. For example, if the address is 123, set the pointer for the
HUNDREDS dial to “1”, set the pointer for the TENS dials to “2”, and set the pointer
for the the ONES dial to “3”. The range of allowable addresses is from 001 to 251
(leading zeros must be used).
Remove all system power before installation, first battery, then AC. (To power up,
connect the AC first, then the battery.)
All device field wiring to the CDC-4 is connected to the terminal blocks of the CC-5
card cage slot in which it is installed.

ZONE 3 ZONE 4
Refer to Figure 3. All circuits are power ONE SLOT OF CC-5 FOR CDC-4
limited to NFPA 70 per NEC 760. Each
detector or group of detectors must use
a two-wire circuit of at least 18 AWG, 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24

conduit. If permitted by local building
codes, 18 AWG limited energy, shielded
cable without conduit may also be used. TO 24VDC FROM PSC-12
Total circuit resistance must not exceed 70 ohms—40 ohms if accessories (relay/
audible bases) are used.
The screw terminals can accommodate one 12 -18 AWG or two 16-18 AWG.
All unused zones must be terminated with a 50uF capacitor (Terminals 1 and 4 for
Zone 1,Terminals 5 and 8 for Zone 2, Terminals 9 and 12 for Zone 3, and Terminals 13
and 16 for Zone 4).

Verify that the DIN connectors of the card and the card-
cage aligned properly. The card can only plug in one
direction to the card cage, if it does not align, DO NOT
FORCE the card.
INITIATING DEVICES Refer to the UL Compatible Two-Wire Detector List for the number of detectors that
may be used on a CDC-4 zone.
Refer to Figure 3 for initiating device wiring. All circuits are power limited to NFPA 70
per NEC 760. Each detector or group of detectors must use a two-wire circuit of at
least 18 AWG, thermoplastic fixture wire, enclosed in conduit. If permitted by local
building codes, 18 AWG limited energy, shielded cable without conduit may also be
used.
Total circuit resistance must not exceed 70 ohms—40 ohms if accessories (relay/
audible bases) are used.
If the smoke detector has an alarm verification function, the circuit must not be
programmed for alarm verification.
See NFPA 72 Standard for the number of normally open contact devices allowed.
For specific wiring and installation information, read the instructions provided with
each device.

identifier CDC). The CDC-4 and all Siemens detectors shown below are ULC listed.
Contact the manufacturer for listing information on models other than Siemens.
Zone current limit is adjusted to 100mA for the follow ing models. Do not mix these detectors w ith those
listed above on the same z one pair (Zones 1 and 2 or Zones 3 and 4). These detectors are compatible w ith
firmw are revision 2.0 and higher w ith PC board P/N 580-034888. The line resistance betw een the w iring
terminals near the CDC-4 and any shorting devices must not exceed 30 ohms.
