“In 1999, after returning from a long-term overseas Tod’s Dragon with Chicken Bones
management assignment in Thailand, Lueck entered a Sculpture

Charlotte studied 9 years of formal Chinese calligraphy Dragon with Musical Notes
and 7 years of Chinese brush painting under Master Print
Lui-Sang Wong of San Francisco. Kohoutek Level 2

With an M.S. degree in nutritional science and a B.A. in


bacteriology at the University of California at Berkeley,
Charlotte has chosen her true calling. Her painting is
done in watercolor on rice paper. No shadowing is used
and depth is achieved only through gradation of color.
However, she adds her own individual style through the
use of more color and the introduction of Midwestern
themes.

She especially delights in the colors of Wisconsin's


changing seasons.

Mrs. Miller has received numerous awards for her work.


She has also taught courses in Chinese art and cooking,
her philosophy being, "I will be able to share my

Chuck Brush would like everyone to know that no


musical instruments were harmed in the making of his
sculptures! All the instruments he uses are defunct or
damaged beyond repair. Brush collects the
instruments from salvage yards and repair shops and
converts them into works of art. While he usually
chooses brass instruments like trumpets, tubas and
trombones, he occasionally fits in pieces from
woodwinds like saxophones and clarinets to create his
unique pieces.

Usually though, ideas are based on his broad love for

“Gisela Moyer was born in 1943 in the former German Paper Piecing
Province of Selesia (Schlesien now part of Poland). In 1945 Ganymede Level 1
her and her farming family fled to Bavaria when the
Queen Anne’s Lace
Russians pushed them out. There were years of near
Paper Piecing
starvation for her and her family, but even amid the Grimm Level 2
hardships, Gisela’s mother reserved a space in their gardens
for flowers. Gisela told her mother that they could grow
more vegetables without the flowers and her mother
replied, “The soul will have to eat too”.

“She creates beautiful art with her handmade paper. Moyer


particularly enjoys the irony of being a paper artist in an
area known for the manufacture of paper products. After
receiving her fine arts degree she began showing her work
in galleries around the country. She also taught art for over
20 years as an Artist in Residence all across Wisconsin.
Gisella Moyer now shows her art across the state of
Wisconsin instead of nationally. Her large handmade paper
paintings are eye-catching and bright. The textures of the
layers of handmade paper are harsh yet soft. Often we must
take the time to understand art from the artists perspective.
In hearing Gisela Moyers’ story, it has made her art that
much more magnificent.”

To me the throwing of the
pot is equivalent to a painter
stretching a canvas. What
goes on the outside surface is
much more important than
the vessel itself.

I work with porcelain into which I wedge a black


stain, rendering a smooth black clay body. After
throwing the vessel on the wheel I may embellish
the pieces with sculptural elements. Elaborate
paintings with glazes and underglazes are
incised, revealing the black stained porcelain
beneath, giving my drawings a texture depth.

Animals and other ancient motifs are reoccurring


themes in my work. I do not pre-draw my

These Folk Art barns are a nostalgic reminder of the old

family farm. The artist created each one individually in
his workshop in the woods as an original tribute to the Round Barn
farms of yesteryear. Each one is created as a unique Wood
memory of the many different kinds of barns still found Barn Level 1
in the Midwest.
John Woodhouse began crafting
farmscapes in 1994. He felt that if
he could draw a barn then he
could built it. He was concerned
that the farms of yesterday were
fading away from our Midwest
landscapes. In order to preserve
the heritage of the Iowa farms, he
began to build them out of barn
boards, wood, metal, wire, and
made his trademark trees out of
cable wire. He put in the details of
the barns with wood-burning, and
painted the barns to resemble the
barns of yesteryear.

Like Kim’s other bronze sculptures, Voyager Hall Pond
Humpty started off as a ceramic-coated
mould built layer-by-layer with liquid The Garden Fairy
Mixed Media Sculpture
ceramic, wax, rubber, silica and reinforced Andromeda Level 1
with black pipe and steel rebar. Molten
bronze was poured into the mold and left Jester Lamp
to cool, before Humpty’s ceramic shell Mixed Media Sculpture
was cracked into pieces and chipped off Ganymede Level 1
to reveal the bronze figurine beneath.

Humpty’s hardy composition has helped


him withstand several falls, presumably
orchestrated by passersby. He has been
successfully restored each time to the
wall by Epic’s Facilities staff.

Apart from bronze eggheads, Kim also


creates classical and contemporary
sculptures in bronze and mixed media, as Joan of Art

mosaics scoured from rummage sales and thrift stores to give the
outside a whimsical, smile-inducing air. Many of her works feature Superdoodledo
handmade tiles, each one cut, glazed and loaded into the kiln Mosaic Sculpture

sculpture also apparently spends a
good amount of time in the studio

“Xao Yang Lee is a story cloth artist. Her skills in sewing Textile

have developed over sixty years of practice as a child in
Laos, a mother in Thailand and a grandmother in the US. Others shown

settled in Sheboygan, Wisconsin in 1980, but now lives

In the early 1980s, to supplement family income, Mrs.
Lee began to market her sewing at weekend art and
craft fairs across Wisconsin, while never missing a day of
work on an assembly line for a sock company. As she
entered and won art competitions, her sewing became
known for making Hmong art appealing and Hmong
history intriguing to a broad, multicultural audience.
In the past ten years, she has been
recognized as one of the most
skillful story cloth artists in the
Midwest.”
