The OMSC Women's Month and Gender and Development (GAD) Celebration 2024
was a month-long event dedicated to honoring National Women's Month and promoting
gender equality in the Philippines. It ran from March 1 to March 31, 2024, and concluded
with a notable webinar on March 8, 2024, centered around the theme "Lipunang Patas sa
Bagong Pilipinas: Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patutunayan!" The event provided a platform
for learning, advocacy, and discussion on gender issues, emphasizing the significance of
inclusivity and gender equality in society.

The event was live-streamed, attracting a substantial number of views and comments,
demonstrating the relevance and impact of the topics discussed. The webinar consisted of two
sessions, with the morning session focusing on "Promoting Inclusive Futures through Gender
Mainstreaming, SOGIESC Understanding, and Gender Fair Language Empowerment."

The webinar started with Ma'am Aime Roldan's opening remarks, where she
introduced the day's discussions. She began by discussing the historical symbolism of the
color purple, which has been linked to justice and dignity. Ma'am Roldan effectively
conveyed how purple has represented women's struggle for gender equality. She emphasized
the perseverance and resolve of women throughout history, stressing the significance of
recognizing their challenges and honoring their accomplishments. Her message struck a
chord with the audience, establishing a strong foundation for the rest of the event.

After Ma'am Roldan's inspiring opening, Dr. Ronaldo G. Orpiano, the Vice President
for Research Development and Extension, took the virtual stage to share his opening remarks.
Dr. Orpiano's dedication to fostering inclusivity within the institution was evident in both his
words and demeanor. He strongly emphasized that inclusivity is not only a moral imperative
but also a crucial factor in the success and growth of any organization. Dr. Orpiano
recognized the diverse talents and perspectives that individuals from different backgrounds
bring to the table, emphasizing the importance of leveraging this diversity to drive innovation
and excellence. His commitment to creating an inclusive environment deeply resonated with
the audience, motivating them to embrace diversity and advocate for equality.

The event's theme, "Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas: Kakayahan ng Kababaihan,

Patutunayan!", perfectly captured the essence of the celebration. It underscored the abilities
of women and the significance of gender equality in building a just and equitable society. The
theme acted as a unifying force for advocating equal opportunities, rights, and
acknowledgment for women in every sphere of life. The discussions, presentations, and

activities throughout the webinar seamlessly integrated this theme, emphasizing the
continuous fight for gender equality and the necessity of unified efforts.

The webinar included a wide range of stimulating conversations and talks that delved
into different facets of gender equality, gender mainstreaming, and the empowerment of
women. Professionals, academics, and advocates from diverse backgrounds offered their
perspectives, knowledge, and study results, illuminating the obstacles encountered by women
and the measures required to attain a fairer society. Subjects like gender biases, women's
leadership, reproductive rights, and workplace fairness were thoroughly examined, affording
participants a thorough grasp of the pertinent matters.

The webinar included interactive workshops and activities alongside the discussions
and presentations, aimed at promoting active participation and engagement from the
participants. These workshops allowed for the sharing of experiences, exchange of ideas, and
the development of practical strategies for advancing gender equality in their areas of
influence. The activities fostered a sense of unity and solidarity among the participants,
emphasizing the significance of collective endeavors in bringing about positive change.

The webinar was a valuable and inspiring gathering that united people from diverse
backgrounds. It offered an opportunity to address significant topics concerning gender and
development, and it advocated for an inclusive future by integrating gender perspectives. The
discussions on understanding SOGIESC (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression,
and Sex Characteristics) and empowering gender-fair language were especially thought-
provoking, urging participants to embrace more inclusive and respectful language and actions.

The OMSC Women's Month and GAD Celebration 2024 achieved great success, both
in terms of attendance and in its ability to generate awareness and promote discussions on
gender issues. It demonstrated the effectiveness of webinars as a means for education and
advocacy, especially in advancing gender equality and women's empowerment.

As Women's Month celebrations persist, this occasion serves as a powerful testament

to the ongoing fight for gender equality and the significant role that everyone plays in
establishing a more just and inclusive society. The event reaffirmed the dedication to
showcasing and recognizing women's abilities in advancing a fair and equal society, perfectly
aligning with the theme of the festivities. It was truly a fitting homage to the strength,
perseverance, and potential of women.
