Checklist
Before using the Infotainment system for the first time, carry out the following steps. This will enable you to use the Infotainment system safely and make full
use of the functions it provides:
Observe the general safety notes Safety notes.
Read these instructions and make yourself familiar with how to operate the unit.
Reset the unit to its original condition (factory settings) Menu and system Settings (SETTINGS).
Search for a radio station and save using the station buttons Radio mode.
Use suitable audio sources and data media for media mode Media mode.

Film or metal-coated stickers attached to the windows may affect radio reception on vehicles with a window aerial.
WARNING
Accidents and injuries can occur if the driver is distracted. Reading information off the screen and operating the Infotainment system can distract you from
the road and cause accidents.
Always drive carefully and responsibly.
WARNING
Connecting, inserting or removing data media or audio sources while the vehicle is in motion can distract you from the road and lead to accidents.
WARNING
Set the volume on the Infotainment system so that noises outside the vehicle (e.g. emergency service sirens) can be easily heard at all times.
Setting the volume too high may damage your hearing. This also applies even if you are only exposed to high volumes for short periods.
WARNING
The following conditions can lead to situations where emergency calls, telephone calls and data transmission are not possible or are interrupted:
If your current location is in an area with no or insufficient mobile communications and GPS reception. This can also include tunnels, streets with tall
buildings, garages, underpasses, mountains and valleys.
If you are in an area with sufficient mobile communications and GPS reception but the telecommunications provider's mobile network is out of order or is
not available.
If the components in the vehicle required for emergency calls, telephone calls and data transmission are damaged, not working or do not have sufficient
electrical power.
If the rechargeable battery of the mobile device is flat or has insufficient charge level.
WARNING
In some countries and mobile networks, a call for assistance or an emergency call can only be made if the mobile device is connected with the vehicle's
mobile phone interface and contains an unlocked SIM card with sufficient credit, and if there is sufficient network coverage.
WARNING
Read and follow the appropriate operating manuals of the respective manufacturer when using mobile devices, data media, external devices, external
audio and media sources.
WARNING
Arrange the wires for external devices and audio sources so that they do not obstruct the driver.
WARNING
The volume level may suddenly change when you switch the audio or media source or connect a new source.
Reduce the volume of the Infotainment system before switching the audio or media source or connecting a new source.

WARNING
If mobile devices or two-way radios that are not connected to an external aerial are used, electromagnetic radiation in the vehicle could exceed limit values
and thus be a health hazard for drivers and other vehicle occupants. This also applies to external aerials that have not been correctly installed.
Maintain a minimum distance of 20 centimetres between the aerial of a mobile device and an active medical implant such as a pacemaker, as mobile
devices may adversely affect their function.
Do not carry an operational mobile device close to or directly above an active medical implant, e.g. in a breast pocket.
Switch off mobile devices immediately if you suspect they may be interfering with an active medical implant or any other medical device.
WARNING
Mobile devices, external devices and accessories in the vehicle that are not properly secured can be flung though the interior and cause injuries, if there is
a sudden driving or braking manoeuvre, or in the event of an accident.
Always secure mobile devices, external devices and accessories outside the airbag deployment zones (⇒BookletOwner's Manual,ChapterAirbag
system), or stow them away safely.
WARNING
The centre armrest can obstruct the driver's arm movements. This can cause accidents and severe injuries.
Always keep the stowage compartment in the centre armrest closed while the vehicle is in motion.
WARNING
Opening the housing on a CD player can lead to injuries from invisible laser radiation.
CD players should be repaired only by a qualified workshop.
WARNING
Poor visibility and a damaged or dirty screen may mean that displays and information on the screen are not visible or cannot be read properly.
Displays and information on the screen must never tempt you into putting safety at risk. The screen is not a substitute for full concentration on the part
of the driver.
WARNING
Radio stations can transmit catastrophe and danger warnings. The following conditions can prevent these warnings from being received or issued:
If your current location is in an area with no or insufficient radio signal reception. This can also include tunnels, streets with tall buildings, garages,
underpasses, mountains and valleys.
If the frequency bands of the radio stations are subject to interference or are not available in areas with adequate radio signal reception.
If the loudspeakers and the components required for radio reception in the vehicle are damaged, not working or do not have a sufficient power supply.
When the Infotainment system is switched off.
WARNING
Driving recommendations and road signs displayed by the navigation system may differ from the current traffic situation.
Road signs, traffic signals, traffic regulations and local conditions have priority over the recommendations and displays provided by the navigation
system.
Adapt your speed and driving style to suit visibility, weather, road and traffic conditions.
Certain events can make the originally planned driving time and route to the destination considerably longer or make navigation there temporarily
impossible, e.g. due a road being closed.

WARNING
Switch off mobile devices in areas with a risk of explosion.
NOTICE
Your mobile device must always be switched off in areas where special regulations apply and when the use of mobile devices is forbidden. The radiation
produced by the mobile device when switched on may interfere with sensitive technical and medical equipment, possibly resulting in malfunction or damage
to the equipment.
NOTICE
The loudspeakers may be damaged if the volume is too high or the sound is distorted.
NOTICE
Insertion of objects, incorrect insertion or insertion of data media with the incorrect shape or size can damage the media drives and the Infotainment
system.
When inserting a data medium, make sure it is correctly positioned.
Insert only suitable data media in the corresponding media drives. Other data media or objects could damage the media drives.
Applying force can damage the CD drive and the locking mechanism of the SD card slot.
Always insert or remove CDs and SD cards straight and at right angles to the front of the unit, using the appropriate drive, without bending them.
Inserting a second CD while a CD is already in the CD drive or being ejected can damage the CD drive in the unit. Always wait until the data medium is
completely ejected.
Do not insert 8 cm single CDs or irregularly shaped CDs.
Do not insert DVD Plus discs, dual discs or flip discs, as these are thicker than normal CDs.
NOTICE
Foreign bodies and liquids adhering to a data medium can damage the media drives and the Infotainment system.
Do not affix stickers or other items to the data medium. Stickers may peel off and damage the media drive.
Do not use printable data media. Coatings and prints may peel off and damage the media drive.
Use only SD cards that are undamaged, dry, clean and suitable.
Use only 12 cm standard CDs that are undamaged, dry, clean and suitable.
Notes on use
Observe country-specific regulations and legal requirements when you use the Infotainment system and the corresponding accessories, e.g. headset or
earphones.
Lightly pressing the buttons or lightly touching the touchscreen is sufficient to operate the Infotainment system.
To ensure the Infotainment system works properly, it is important to make sure the unit is switched on and that the correct date1) and time are set in the vehicle.
Not all listed function buttons and functions may be available due to the device software used in your market. A missing function button on the screen does not
constitute a fault in the unit.
Some functions of the unit are available only when the vehicle is stationary. In some countries, the selector lever must additionally be in parking position (P) or
the gear lever must be in the neutral position. This is not a malfunction; it is a legal requirement.
There may be restrictions on the use of Bluetooth® devices in some countries. Information is available from the local authorities.
The Infotainment system must start up completely before all displays are available and before it is possible to execute functions. The duration of a system start
depends on the functional scope of the Infotainment system and can also take longer than usual particularly at low and high temperatures.
Switch the ignition on before switching the Infotainment system back on if the vehicle battery has been disconnected.
By modifying the settings, displays on the screen may vary and the Infotainment system may behave differently from the description in this manual in some

cases.
In order to ensure that the functionality of the system is not impaired, have any repairs or modifications to the Infotainment system performed only by a
specialist workshop.
Using a mobile device in the vehicle may cause noises in the loudspeakers.
In some countries, the Infotainment system is automatically switched off when the engine is switched off and when the vehicle battery charge level is low.
High speeds, poor weather and poor road conditions, loud noise levels (also outside the vehicle) and also network quality may impair telephone calls in the
vehicle.
In some vehicles equipped with Park Distance Control, the volume of the current audio source is lowered automatically when reverse gear is engaged. Volume
reduction can be set in the vehicle ⇒BookletOwner's Manual,ChapterPark Distance Control menu.

If you sell your vehicle or loan it to somebody else, make sure that all data and files stored in the Infotainment system are deleted and that the SD card,
external audio sources and data media are removed where applicable.

Energy management
If the battery voltage falls below the minimum on-board power supply voltage when the ignition is switched off and the Infotainment system is switched on, a signal
sounds and an appropriate message appears on the screen. You should switch the Infotainment system off.
If the battery voltage continues to drop, the Infotainment system switches itself off automatically.

The Infotainment system is supplied in different versions. These differ with respect to the available functions, labelling, functions and layout of the sensor fields and
function buttons. The Infotainment system features a touchscreen.

Switching the Infotainment system on and off manually
Briefly press the rotary/push knob.
Switching the Infotainment system on and off automatically1)

To switch on: switch the ignition on, provided the system was not previously switched off manually.
Switching off: when the vehicle key is removed from the ignition lock or when the driver door is opened with the ignition switched off.
Switch-off delay1)
If the switched-off Infotainment system is switched on again manually, it will switch itself off again automatically after approximately 30 minutes (switch-off delay).

Adjusting the volume
When it is switched on, the Infotainment system starts at the last selected volume setting, provided that this does not exceed the preselected maximum switch-on
volume ⇒ Sound and volume settings .
Turn the rotary/push knob (louder: in clockwise direction, quieter: in anti-clockwise direction).
OR: press the (louder) or (quieter) button on the multifunction steering wheel2).
Mute
Any audio source currently being played is stopped while the Infotainment system is muted. may be shown on the screen.
Turn the volume control anti-clockwise until the audio source can no longer be heard.
If the volume has been increased considerably to play a certain audio source, reduce the volume before switching to another audio source ⇒ Sound and
volume settings .

Infotainment buttons
Infotainment buttons ② are operated by lightly pressing them or by pressing and holding them.
RADIO : switches to radio mode and changes the frequency band in radio mode ⇒ Radio mode .
MEDIA : switches to media mode and changes the media source in media mode ⇒ Media mode .
PHONE : opens the mobile phone interface. If no mobile phone interface is installed, the currently active audio source will be muted ⇒ Mobile phone interface
(PHONE) .
VOICE : starts voice control ⇒ Voice control .
NAV : switches to navigation mode ⇒ Navigation .
CAR : opens vehicle and system settings ⇒BookletOwner's manual,.
MENU : opens the main menus; use the menu control or your finger to select options.

Menu control
The menu control ⇒ Fig. 1④ can be turned or pressed. Turning the control allows you to browse lists or open lists of media tracks and radio stations, for example.
Pressing the control opens marked entries, applies settings, and starts or stops functions.
In all radio modes, turn to set a station or channel manually.
Turn to open the track list in Media mode.
Turn to select menu options in long lists and press to access the selected option, e.g. select a station from the station list.

Turn to modify certain settings, e.g. speed-dependent volume control.

The voice enhancer automatically detects when the driver is speaking and begins transmitting to the loudspeakers in the passenger compartment.
Operating the voice enhancer

Turn the rotary/push knob .

Move the slider to the desired volume.
To switch off, move the slider to the Off position.
Volume adjustments
You can also adjust the volume and switch the function on and off in the Sound settings menu ⇒ Sound and volume settings .
The voice enhancer is not active during telephone calls and acoustic navigation guidance.

Cleaning the screen
Switch the unit off while cleaning it ⇒ .
Clean the screen using either a soft, clean cloth moistened with clean water or a cleaning cloth available from a Volkswagen dealership ⇒ .
Soften stubborn dirt with water and a moist cloth without damaging the unit while doing so.
NOTICE
Do not clean the screen when dry. This can cause scratches or permanent streaks.
Do not use aggressive or solvent-based cleaning products. These cleaning products can damage the unit and make the screen go blind.
Exert only light pressure when cleaning the screen.

Functions can be executed on the screen ⇒ Overview illustration either by the finger movements tap, press and hold, swipe, pinch open and pinch close and tap
and slide or with the menu control ⇒ Menu control by Turning and Pressing.
Finger movements
Tap: Lightly tap active areas of the screen with your finger to activate or deactivate functions, for example.
Press and hold: touch the function button lightly and hold until the required function has been executed, e.g. move the scroll symbol or store the station on a
station button.
Swipe: swipe over the screen with a sliding finger movement to scroll through lists or change track in media mode, for example.
Pinch open and pinch close: Touch the screen with your thumb and index finger and pinch open or pinch close in order to zoom in and out of photos, for
example.
Tap and slide: Tap an object by touching the screen gently with your finger. Move the object to the desired position without lifting your finger from the screen.
This function can be used to adjust sound settings with the displayed sliders, for example.
The displays that appear on the screen can vary depending on the settings, and may differ from those described here.
Displays such as the current time and the current outside temperature can be displayed on the screen in the status bar.
Proximity sensors
The Infotainment system has integrated proximity sensors.
On being approached by a hand, the screen display switches automatically from display mode to control mode. In operation mode, function buttons are highlighted
automatically for ease of operation.
Depending on the device installed, the proximity sensors can be activated or deactivated in the Screen settings menu.

List entries can be opened by touching them directly on the screen or by using the menu control ⇒ Fig. 1④ .

Turn the menu control to mark each consecutive list entry with a selection box and thus browse through the list.
Press the menu control to open the marked list entry.
Browsing lists
If there are more items available in a list view than can be displayed on the screen, function buttons for scrolling or a scroll symbol are displayed on the right of the
screen ⇒ Fig. 3① .
Tap the screen above or below the scroll mark.
OR:Press and hold the scroll mark and move your finger up and down. Lift your finger off the screen when you reach the desired position.
OR: Place one finger on the list and swipe up or down. The list gets scrolled.
General displays and symbols

Active areas of the screen that open a certain function are called function buttons. These buttons are operated by tapping or pressing and holding the touchscreen.
Function buttons are described in the instructions with the button symbol .

Additional general function buttons
Function buttons and their meaning

Touch to move up just one level at a time (works in certain lists).
Some function buttons or displays are marked with a checkbox and are activated or deactivated by touching this box. May be
displayed individually or in combination with a symbol.
Touch the function button or press and hold it (shown here without content). Starts functions or opens submenus. Inactive (grey) function
buttons cannot be selected.
Touch to move up one level at a time back to the main menu from submenus or to undo entries.
Touch to open a pop-up window (option window), displaying further setting options.
OK Touch to confirm or accept an input or selection.
Touch to close a pop-up window or an input window.
Arrow keys: touch or press and hold to carry out incremental adjustment or move forward/back.
Touch to change settings or values incrementally.

Move the slider across the screen by pressing lightly without lifting your finger.
On-screen keyboard

Input windows with an on-screen keypad allow you to enter text, such as a stored name or a term for searching in long lists.
The input line with the cursor is located on the left in the top line of the screen. All inputs made via the on-screen keyboard are displayed here. The cursor can be
moved to the desired position in the screen by touching it with your finger.

Input windows for free text input
An input window for free text entry allows country-specific letters, numbers and special characters to be entered in any combination.
Touching the OK function button applies the sequence of characters currently displayed in the window.
Input windows for selecting a stored entry
It is only possible to select a sequence of letters, numbers and special characters that matches a stored entry.

The main functions of the mobile phone interface, navigation system1), radio mode and media mode can also be operated by voice control after initial user pairing
or the automatic connection process.
Use of voice control for the mobile phone interface is country-dependent.
Supported languages
Voice control is available for most of the languages that can be selected in the Infotainment system.
If voice control is unavailable for a set language, a message to this effect will appear on the screen if you attempt to activate voice control in that language.
Voice control must be conducted in the language that has been set in the Infotainment system.
Configure the desired language in the System settings menu ⇒ Menu and system Settings (SETTINGS) .
Incoming telephone calls have priority over voice commands. The voice control function will, therefore, be deactivated automatically if there is an incoming
call.

Getting started
Depending on the country concerned, voice control of the mobile phone interface is switched off and voice control of the Infotainment system is used.
The volume of voice guidance output for voice control can be adjusted in the Sound settings⇒ Sound and volume settings menu, or by using the volume control

Help for voice control should be activated and listened to the first time you use it.

The language of the voice control function is the same as the language selected in the vehicle. If the language selected in the vehicle is not available for the
voice control function, English is selected as the substitute language. If the vehicle has an instrument cluster menu, the language can be set on the instrument
cluster. To set the language on a vehicle that does not have an instrument cluster menu, contact a Volkswagen dealership.
Saying voice commands
Speak at a normal volume without exaggeration or long pauses.
Speak slowly and clearly. Unclear words and numbers, or words in which syllables are mumbled will not be recognised by the system.
Depending on the content of the telephone book, it may be advisable to swap the order of the contact's forename and surname when saying the name to
ensure it is reliably recognised from the telephone book.
Limit noise from outside the vehicle and close all windows, doors and the glass roof.
Do not point the airflow from the vents towards the roof.
Speak slightly louder at higher speeds.
Background noise, such as conversations in the vehicle, should be avoided when saying voice commands.
Do not speak when the hands-free system is making an announcement.
Avoid loud noises in the background when recording voice tags.

The digital radio receiver supports the broadcast standards DAB, DAB+ and DMB-Audio, which are currently not available in all countries.
Digital radio in Europe is transmitted on frequency band III (174 MHz to 240 MHz).
The frequencies of the two bands are referred to as channels and each has a channel name (e.g. 12 A).
Several DAB stations on one channel plus available additional services together form an ensemble.
Starting DAB radio mode

In the RADIO main menu, touch function button ⇒ Fig. 9① and select DAB .
The DAB station that was last selected will be played if it can still be received at the current location.
The selected DAB station is displayed in the top line of the screen (DAB - 3), and the currently selected ensemble appears below it (ENSEMBLE - A) ⇒ Fig. 9 .
Additional stations in DAB
Some DAB stations provide additional stations on a temporary or permanent basis, e.g. for broadcasting sport events.
If an additional station is available, this will be indicated by next to the station name ⇒ Fig. 9 .
To select an additional station, touch the station name of the main station in the DAB main menu. OR: select an additional station from the station list.
The name of the tuned additional station is displayed in the DAB main menu to the right beside the shortened name of the DAB main station.
Additional stations cannot be stored.
Automatic station tracking: changing from DAB to FM
DAB is currently not available in all areas. In areas without DAB, is displayed in DAB radio mode.
In the DAB settings menu, the system can be configured to switch to the FM frequency band when required for automatic station tracking.
If reception of the currently selected DAB station is lost (e.g. DAB is unavailable), the Infotainment system will attempt to find the station on the FM frequency band
and tune in to it.
The requirement for cross-frequency station tracking is that the DAB station and the FM station broadcast the same station ID.
OR: the DAB signal indicates a corresponding station on the FM frequency band which is receivable to a sufficient level.
If a corresponding FM station is found, (FM) is displayed next to the station name. When reception for the corresponding DAB station returns, the unit will switch

back to DAB mode after a short time. The (FM) display is hidden.
If the reception of the selected DAB station is lost and the station cannot be found on the FM frequency band, the radio will be muted.
DAB additional services
Touch the View function button and select the desired additional service.
You can press ⇒ Fig. 10Ⓐ or Ⓑ to switch between station information, radio text and the slideshow.
Function descriptions
Radio text (RDS)
RDS (Radio Data System) is a radio data system which enables additional services in the FM frequency band, such as the display of station names, automatic
station tracking, radio text and traffic news (TP).
RDS is not supported by all units and is not available everywhere or on every FM radio station.
Show radio text: touch function button. To hide, touch .
Without RDS it is not possible to use radio data services.
Fixing station name (FM)
Some radio stations transmit a very long station name, which is shown on the screen as a scrolling text.
To fix the text that is currently displayed on the screen, touch the station name and hold until you hear a tone.
Station names that have been stopped from scrolling are indicated by a dot to each side of the name.
The non-scrolling text applies to all station buttons on which the radio station is stored.
Station logos
Station logos may be pre-installed in the Infotainment system for some frequency bands or may be imported via a data medium (e.g. SD card). In some countries,
station logos can be downloaded from the Volkswagen homepage or the Volkswagen radio station logos page.
Images in standard formats (e.g. jpg, bmp, or png) with a maximum size of 400 x 240 pixels can be used as station logos.
Store the station logos to a suitable data medium (e.g. an SD card or USB storage device) in order to then import them into the Infotainment system.
Automatically assigning station logos1)
Save station logos on station buttons automatically: Setup Advanced settings. Auto-save station logos .
Manually assigning station logos
Station logos can be assigned manually to station buttons with saved radio stations:
Select the desired frequency band in the Radio main menu.

Touch the station button to which you wish to assign the station logo.
Select the source on which the logo is stored (e.g. SD ).
Select the station logo. Repeat the process to allocate further logos.

TP (Traffic Programme)1)
Traffic news monitoring with the TP function is only possible if a traffic news station is available. (To activate, touch the Traffic program (TP) function button
⇒ Adjusting settings .)
Some stations that do not broadcast their own traffic news support the TP function through a link to a traffic news station (EON).
In FM mode, the selected station must support the TP function. When selecting a station that does not support the TP function after the TP function has been
switched on, traffic news monitoring will not be possible (display: No TP).
Switching the TP function on and off

Press the SETUP Infotainment button.
Turn the menu control and select the Radio menu item.
Activate or deactivate the Traffic Programme (TP) function.
Activated TP function and station selection
While traffic news monitoring is on, TP is displayed in audio mode. Traffic announcements broadcast by the current station or a linked traffic news station will
interrupt the current audio mode.
If the currently selected traffic news station can no longer be received, No TP is displayed and you will have to start a manual station search.
During AM or Media mode⇒ Media mode , a traffic news station is set automatically in the background provided that such a station can be received. This
procedure may take some time.

Adjusting settings
Function buttons and their meaning in the settings menu:
Delete all or All or Delete or : deletes individual or selected or all entries corresponding to the chosen or intended selection.
Sound : sound settings ⇒ Sound and volume settings .
Arrow buttons : define settings for arrow buttons < and > for switching through all stored stations or all receivable stations. The setting is adopted for
all frequency bands (FM, AM, DAB).
Preset list : contains all stored stations in the selected frequency band. Display of station buttons in DAB mode.
Station list : contains all receivable stations in the selected frequency band.
Traffic programme (TP) : TP function (traffic monitoring). Incoming traffic announcements are played while radio and media modes are active. Set to
activate.

Scan : stations are played for around five seconds when using the SCAN function. Press the menu control to start the SCAN function. OR: touch the
Setup function button and then select Scan .
SCAN : the function button is only displayed when the SCAN function is on. To end the SCAN function at the currently played station, press the
SCAN button or another station button.
Delete presets : delete some or all stored stations. To delete individual stations, touch the corresponding station button.
Radio text : text information on the station, current song, etc. The radio text is displayed on the screen and is not supported by all stations. Set to
activate.
Station logos : you can manually or automatically assign corresponding station logos to the stations stored on the station buttons.
Automatic frequency control (AF) : automatic station tracking is activated via Radio Data System. Set to activate.
Radio Data System (RDS) : Radio Data System (RDS) with traffic news (TP) and radio text functions. Set to activate.
RDS Regional : define the setting for automatic station tracking with RDS.
Fixed : the unit only switches to alternative frequencies for the selected station if they broadcast the same regional service.
Automatic : the unit always switches to the station's frequency that currently offers the best reception. As a result, regional programmes may be
interrupted.
Advanced settings :
Autostore station logos : automatic saving of station logos to station buttons if available in the Infotainment system ⇒ Station logos . Set to
activate.
Station logo region : in a region selection menu, the station logos can be selected manually by region or adapted automatically to a country.
DAB traffic announcements : a received traffic announcement is played during active radio and media operation. Set to activate.
Other DAB announcements : DAB announcements (news, sport, weather, warnings etc.) will interrupt the current DAB radio mode. Set
to activate.
DAB - DAB station tracking : automatic station tracking within the DAB frequency band. Set to activate.
Automatic DAB - FM switching : permits switching to the FM frequency band when automatic station tracking is activated. Set to
activate.

The term audio sources is generally used for data media or any media on which music tracks, audio plays or other audio files are stored. Playback is possible via
the SD card slot, USB port, Bluetooth® interface or AUX-IN socket of the Infotainment system.
No liability can be accepted for damaged or lost files on the data media.
The owners of the audio sources or data media are responsible for their content.
MEDIA main menu
Various media sources can be selected and controlled in media mode.
Press the MEDIA Infotainment button to switch to media mode.
If the media source last played is still available, playback of this media source continues automatically.
The selected media source is displayed when media mode is active.

In the MEDIA main menu, press the MEDIA Infotainment button again to open the selection menu.
All selectable media sources are shown on the screen. In some operating modes, e.g. while the unit reads in a media source, no media sources can be
selected.
Tap the function button of the appropriate media source to select the desired media source.
Restrictions and notes on data media
Contamination, exposure to high temperatures and mechanical damage can render data media unusable. Please observe the manufacturer's instructions.
Variations in the quality of data media from different manufacturers can lead to problems during playback.
The unit may be unable to read individual tracks or the entire data medium due to the storage device configuration or the devices and programs used for recording.
Information about the best ways to create audio files and configure data media (compression rate, ID3 tag etc.) can be found online.
The reading time may vary considerably depending on the condition of the data medium (copying and deleting actions), folder structure and file type.
Playlists only determine a certain playing order. There are no files stored in a playlist. The unit will not play a playlist if the files are not stored on the storage
device at the locations referred to by the playlist (relative file paths).

The supported file formats listed are collectively referred to below as audio files. A CD containing audio files of these types is referred to as an audio CD.
If the audio data CDs played contain additional track information (CD text , ID3 tag for MP3 files), this can be displayed on the screen.
Requirements for playing audio files
Applies to SD memory cards1) and USB storage media in the FAT16, FAT32, exFAT and NTFS file system:
MP3 files (.mp3) with bit rates of between 32 and 320 kbit/s or with variable bit rate.
WMA files (.wma) up to 10 mono/stereo and up to 768 kbit/s without copy protection.
WAV files (.wav) (64 - 1411 kbit/s).
OGG-Vorbis files (.ogg) (32 - 576 kbit/s).
FLAC files (.flac) (up to 96 kHz).
AAC files (.m4a, .m4b, .mp4, .aac) (16 - 400 kbit/s).
Playlists in M3U, M3U8, PLS, ASX and WPL formats.
Playlists no larger than 20 kB and containing no more than 1,000 entries.
Max. 32 playlists on one data medium.
Max. 1000 folders and max. 30000 files on a data medium.
Maximum size of 4 GB for a single file using the FAT32 file system.
Conditions for playing back audio files via Bluetooth®

The external audio source must support the A2DP or the AVRCP Bluetooth® profile and be paired with the Infotainment system ⇒ Bluetooth® interface .
1) SD memory cards with max. 2 GB (gigabytes), SDHC memory cards with max. 32 GB, SDXC memory cards⇒ with max. 256 GB.
2) It may not be possible to play all files if the size is larger than 64 GB.
Playing order of files and folders

Audio files on data media are often sorted by folders and playlists to determine a certain playing order.
Tracks, folders and playlists on a storage device are each sorted by name numerically and alphabetically.
Subfolders are treated like folders and numbered in accordance with the sequence on the data medium.
The illustration ⇒ Fig. 11 shows a typical data medium that contains tracks , folders and subfolders.

It may take a few minutes to generate a database view, depending on the quantity of data.
It may not be possible to generate a Database view if there are too many files on the mass storage device.
During the creation of a Database view, the existing tracks are entered into different categories and lists according to the track information available.
The available tracks can be displayed in these lists using different sort methods and can also be opened from there.

Some external devices can be connected to the Infotainment system by cable and wireless connections present in the vehicle (if installed).
The type and number of cable and wireless connections differ according to country and vehicle. Connections may vary within a model series and may differ again
in a limited edition model.
In the case of cable connections, use only the original device connecting cables or, if available, the factory-supplied connecting cables for your vehicle.
If the adapter or plug on the connecting cable cannot be inserted, check the angle of insertion and the connections.
NOTICE
Only use suitable and undamaged connecting cables for wired connections.
When inserting the plug of the connecting cable into the appropriate port, ensure that they are correctly positioned and apply only light pressure.
Applying too much pressure may damage both the unit connection and the adapter or plug of the connecting cable.
Make sure that the connecting cable is not pinched or sharply bent.
Using unsuitable or damaged connecting cables can damage devices and cause malfunctioning.
If a connected device is not recognised, disconnect all devices and connect the device again. If necessary, check that the connecting cable you are using is
working properly.
If a connected device malfunctions, restart the device. In some cases this will remedy the fault.
USB port
USB port with data transfer,

The number of USB ports and compatibility with Apple devices as well as other media players varies according to the equipment level.
The USB port supplies the usual USB voltage of 5 volts.
Due to the large variety of data media and the various iPod and iPhone generations available, it is not possible to guarantee fault-free operation of all functions
described here.

Removing
The connected data medium must be prepared before removal.
In the MEDIA main menu, touch the Setup function button or to open the Media settings menu.
OR: press the MENU Infotainment button and then touch Setup to open the System settings menu.
Touch the Remove safely function button and then select USB . Once the data medium has been ejected from the system, the function
button is greyed out.
The data medium can now be removed.
Apple devices and devices with Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) can be separated without having to log off from the system.
Data medium cannot be read
An information message appears on the screen of the Infotainment system if the data on the connected data medium cannot be read.
Do not use USB extension cables or USB hubs.

The AUX-IN socket is a cable connection which can be operated only using a suitable connecting cable with a 3.5 mm jack.
AUX appears on the screen when an external audio source is connected ⇒ Fig. 16 .
In some vehicles, an additional AUX-IN socket may be located in the storage compartment of the centre armrest or in the lower section of the centre console.
The connected external audio source is played over the vehicle speakers and cannot be controlled with the Infotainment system.

audio source is selected, the external audio source will continue to run in the background.
Interference may occur if the external audio source is powered from the vehicle’s 12-volt socket.
Bluetooth® interface
The Bluetooth® interface is a wireless connection.
Bluetooth® audio mode can be indicated by on the screen.
In Bluetooth® audio mode, audio files from a Bluetooth® audio source (e.g. mobile device) that is connected via Bluetooth® can be played over the vehicle
loudspeakers (Bluetooth® audio playback).

Starting Bluetooth® audio transfer

Switch on Bluetooth® visibility on the external Bluetooth® audio source (e.g. mobile device).
Press the MEDIA Infotainment button.
Touch the ⇒ Fig. 17① function button and select BT audio .
Touch Search for new device to couple an external Bluetooth® audio source for the first time.
OR: select the external Bluetooth® audio source from the list.
OR: set up the connection via the Bluetooth settings menu ⇒ Telephone settings .
Continue the process by following the prompts on the Infotainment system screen and in the display on the Bluetooth® audio source.
If necessary, start playback on the Bluetooth® audio source manually.
When playback on the Bluetooth® audio source is stopped, the Infotainment system remains in Bluetooth® audio mode.
Controlling playback
The extent to which the Bluetooth® audio source can be controlled with the Infotainment system varies depending on what Bluetooth® audio source is connected.
With media players that support the AVRCP Bluetooth® profile, playback on the Bluetooth® audio source can be automatically started or stopped when the unit is
switched to Bluetooth® audio mode or to a different audio source. In addition, track display or track change is possible with the Infotainment system.
Due to the large number of possible Bluetooth® audio sources, it is not possible to guarantee fault-free operation of all described functions.
Always switch off the warning and service tones on a connected Bluetooth® audio source, e.g. key tones on a mobile device, to prevent interference noise
and malfunctions.
Depending on the device, the Bluetooth® audio connection will automatically be disconnected if an external media player is simultaneously connected to the
Infotainment system with Bluetooth® and the USB port .

A factory-installed media drive is a device that is connected with the Infotainment system and can accommodate different data media. Depending on vehicle model,
the external media drive may be located in the stowage compartment on the front passenger side or in the luggage compartment.
The media drive is only available in some models and is not available in all countries.

Inserting and ejecting a CD
Only round standard CDs with a diameter of 12 cm (4.7 inches) must be inserted into the CD drive ⇒ Fig. 18② and CD changer. The CD drive can play both audio
CDs and audio data CDs. Please refer to ⇒ Requirements for media sources and audio files .
Only one CD can be inserted into the CD drive ⇒ Fig. 18② .
Uneven road surfaces and strong vibrations may cause the playback to jump.
When an audio CD without CD text is playing, only Track and the track number (corresponding to the playing order on the data medium) are displayed in the
centre line of the screen.
If the audio data CDs played contain additional track information (CD text , ID3 tag for MP3 files), this can be displayed on the screen.
When the temperature inside the Infotainment system is too high, loading and playback of CDs will be disabled.
Inserting a CD
Hold the CD with the printed side facing up.
Push the CD into the CD drive only to the point where it is drawn in automatically.
CD cannot be read or is faulty
If the data on an inserted CD cannot be read or the CD is faulty, a corresponding message will appear on the screen and the unit will not switch to CD mode.
Ejecting CDs
CDs must be removed manually.
In some countries, the vehicle key must be in the ignition lock in order to eject a CD (anti-theft protection).
Press the eject button ⇒ Fig. 18① .
The CD in the drive will be ejected and must be removed within approximately ten seconds.
For safety, the CD will be drawn back into the player if it is not removed within roughly ten seconds, but the unit will not switch to CD mode.

If you insert a number of different CDs and receive an error message every time, contact a qualified workshop.
SD card slot
Only SD cards with a physical size of 32 mm x 24 mm x 2.1 mm (1.26 x 0.94 x 0.083 inches) or 32 mm x 24 mm x 1.4 mm (1.26 x 0.94 x 0.055 inches) can be
inserted into the SD card slot ⇒ Fig. 18③ .
Do not use SD card adapters.

Carefully insert a compatible SD card into one of the two SD card slots with the cut-off corner first and the lettering facing up (contact surfaces facing down)
until the card clicks into place.
If an SD card cannot be inserted, ensure that it is positioned correctly and is compatible with the unit.
Preparing an SD card for removal and removing1)
The inserted SD card must be prepared for removal.
In the MEDIA main menu, touch the Setup function button or to open the Media settings menu.

The current vehicle position is determined by means of the GPS satellite system (Global Positioning System). Sensors in the vehicle measure distances that have
been driven. All measurements are compared to the stored detailed map information and the road traffic routing stored on the navigation data storage device.
Traffic announcements may also be taken into account in the route calculation (dynamic route guidance). The Infotainment system uses all available data to
calculate the best route to the destination.
Acoustic navigation announcements as well as graphical displays on the screen of the Infotainment system and in the display of the instrument cluster lead you to
your destination.
Depending on the country concerned, some Infotainment system functions can no longer be selected when the vehicle is travelling above a certain speed. This is
not a malfunction; it is a legal requirement.
If you miss a turning during route guidance and are currently unable to turn back, keep on driving until the navigation system suggests a new route.
The quality of the navigation recommendations given by the Infotainment system depends on the navigation data available and any reported traffic
problems.
Navigation announcements
Navigation announcements cannot be given if the navigation system is muted.
Once the route has been calculated, the system gives the first navigation announcement. Up to three navigation announcements are output before turning,
e.g. Turn left shortly, Turn left after 300 metres and Turn left now.
The type of road and the vehicle speed largely determine which distances are announced. For instance, navigation announcements are given much earlier on
motorways than on urban roads.
Appropriate navigation announcements are also given on multi-lane roads, branching roads and at roundabouts, e.g. Take the second exit from the roundabout.
A navigation announcement informs you when you have reached your destination.
A navigation announcement informing you that you have reached the destination area is given if the exact destination cannot be reached because it is located in a
non-digitised area. You will also be informed of the direction in which the destination is located and how far away it is. Navigation will resume offroad.
During dynamic route guidance, you receive information about reported traffic congestion on the route. An additional navigation announcement is given if the route
is recalculated due to traffic congestion.

Limitations of navigation
When the Infotainment system cannot receive any data from GPS satellites (dense foliage, underground car park), navigation can still continue using the vehicle
sensors.
In areas are included on the data medium that are not or only incompletely digitised, the Infotainment system will also try to enable route guidance.
If navigation data are unavailable or incomplete, the navigation system may be unable to determine the exact vehicle position. As a result, the navigation may not
be as exact as usual.
Roads and streets are subject to constant change, such as new roads, roadworks, road closures and changes to street names or house numbers. Outdated
navigation data in particular can result in errors or a lack of precision during navigation.
Updating navigation data
Navigation is only possible with a suitable SD card containing navigation data. The Infotainment system can be equipped at the factory with a suitable SD card
containing navigation data.
The Infotainment system always requires the navigation data that is currently valid for this unit in order to allow all functions to be used in full. Using an old version
of the navigation data may impair functions during navigation.
Updating navigation data
Current navigation data is available from the Volkswagen partner or can be downloaded from the Internet at www.volkswagen.com and saved on a suitable SD
card.
Suitable SD cards are available from Volkswagen dealers.
You will find a description of the procedure on the Internet at www.volkswagen.com.
NOTICE
Do not remove the SD card while navigation is active. This can damage the navigation data and the SD card.
Volkswagen recommends carrying out regular updates of navigation data.
The SD card containing the navigation data cannot be used as a storage medium for other files; stored files will not be recognised by the Infotainment
system.

Texts can be only used for route guidance if the destination data are known to the navigation system.
Only make settings, destination inputs and changes on the navigation system when the vehicle is stationary.
Any text can be used to search for a specific destination. The system will make suggestions for possible destinations during input.
Specify the navigation destination as precisely as possible. If you make a spelling error, for example, route guidance will not be possible or you may be navigated
to the wrong destination.
Selection list for destination input
Call up the selection list: MENU .
The selection list offers the following options for destination input:

Only make settings, destination inputs and changes on the navigation system when the vehicle is stationary.
Route planning
Several stopover destinations can be defined consecutively in the route details. A trip with multiple stopover destinations is called a route.

The starting point of a route is always the vehicle position determined by the Infotainment system. The destination is the end point of a route. Stopover destinations
are driven to before the destination.
A stopover destination can also be moved to another position within the list.
Call up route plan during active route guidance: MENU ROUTE PLAN .
Symbol and meaning:

Starting point of route.
Stopover destination on route.
m/k/n992MKIf several stopover destinations are stored, a small number will appear showing the order within the route.
Move stopover destination. Touch the symbol in the list, hold and move.
Destination. End point of route.
Symbols that appear when a destination is touched:

Delete destination.
Start direct route guidance to the selected destination. Destinations located before the selected destination will be omitted.

Alternative routes.

The alternative routes display must be activated in the settings menu .
If alternative routes is activated, the additional window will display alternative routes after route guidance has started.
Besides the alternative routes, possible road toll fees and the use of tunnels and motorways are also displayed in the additional window.
Most economical route. The route is calculated taking economical aspects into account (pale blue marking).
Fastest route. The fastest route to the destination is calculated, even if this requires detours (red marking).
Shortest route. The shortest route to the destination is calculated, even if it results in a longer travelling time (orange marking).

Displaying traffic reports

Press the MENU Infotainment button and the function button to display the list of current traffic announcements.

Route : displays the traffic reports received that affect the currently calculated route.
Dynamic route guidance
For dynamic route guidance, Dynamic route must be enabled in the route options ⇒ Navigation settings .

If a traffic report that refers to the current route is received during route guidance, an alternative route is calculated if the Infotainment system determines that this
can save time.
If no time saving is calculated for a diversion, you will be led through the congestion. In both cases, there is a spoken message.
Just before you reach reported traffic congestion, you will be informed about it again.
A diversion based on traffic reports may not always save time, if, for instance, there is also heavy traffic on the alternative route. The quality of the dynamic route
guidance depends on the information contained in the traffic reports.
A section of the route ahead can also be excluded manually to trigger recalculation of the route: MENU .

During route guidance, traffic congestion that is not on the calculated route is indicated in grey.

The Infotainment system can receive traffic information from the Internet when the relevant function is activated.
Receiving online traffic information provides you with real-time information about accidents and other incidents from the Internet.
These data are required for displaying the traffic flow and for dynamic route guidance.
Whenever there is no reception for online traffic information, the traffic information is received automatically via TMC/TMCpro. The traffic flow display is not
available in this case.

Coloured warning symbols show the start of immediately approaching traffic congestion. Traffic jams with grey warning symbols are not along the planned route.

Red line: queuing or stop-and-go traffic. Traffic is severely congested on this section of the road.
Orange line: slow-moving traffic. Traffic is congested on this section of the road.
Green line: traffic is flowing freely. No congestion is reported at present.
Traffic flow settings
The display of traffic congestion can be configured in the Traffic flow settings menu.
In the Navigation main menu, touch the Setup function button.
Touch the Map function button and then touch Traffic flow settings ⇒ Navigation settings .
Activate or deactivate functions as desired ⇒ Navigation settings .

Most frequent routes : most frequent routes is activated in the additional window when route guidance is not activated.
Dynamic route : dynamic route guidance with TMC is activated.
Avoid motorways : motorways will be excluded from the route calculation as far as possible.
Avoid ferries and motorail trains : ferries and motorail trains will be excluded from the route calculation as far as possible.
Avoid toll roads : toll roads will be excluded from the route calculation as far as possible.

Roads requiring a vignette that has been marked as available will be included in the route calculation.
Consider trailer : route guidance will take a trailer into account.

Volume : to set the volume for the acoustic navigation recommendations.
Comprehensive : detailed navigation recommendations with additional information.
Brief : some additional navigation recommendations and information are left out.
Congestion only : navigation announcements only when there is congestion on the route.
No voice guidance during call : no acoustic navigation guidance is output during phone calls.
Note: "My POIs" : an acoustic signal is given when you approach one of the saved points of interest with acoustic signal activated.
Advanced settings : advanced settings for navigation.

Using Volkswagen Media Control, the factory-fitted Infotainment system can be operated from the other seats as follows:

Furthermore, the Media Control menu in the Infotainment system can also be used to control the playback of audio and video files on up to two tablets.
Depending on the country and device, you can exchange the following information between the tablet and the Infotainment system:

Setting up a data connection

Connecting CarStick to UBS port
The suitable CarStick is inserted into the vehicle USB port and connects the Infotainment system to the Internet via HSDPA/HSUPA, UMTS or EDGE.
Commercially available sticks (e.g. UMTS sticks) are not compatible with the Infotainment system. A suitable CarStick is available from Volkswagen dealerships.
Depending on the country and the vehicle equipment level, the vehicle may be fitted with one or more USB connections .

Making a connection
To install the CarStick and connect to the Internet, read and observe the manual for the CarStick.
Additional settings may be necessary ⇒ Adjusting settings .
The availability of a suitable CarStick depends on the country concerned. Information about availability is available on the Volkswagen homepage or from
your Volkswagen dealership.
If the connected CarStick is not recognised, close the connections with all devices and connect the CarStick again.
WLAN hotspot
The Infotainment system can be used as a WLAN hotspot to provide online access for up to eight WLAN devices.

To connect to the internet and, for example, to use Volkswagen Car-Net, an additional data connection is needed, e.g. via a CarStick or an external WLAN device.
Setting up the WLAN connection

Tap the Settings function button to open the System settings menu.
Tap the WLAN function button to open the WLAN settings menu.
Tap the Mobile hotspot function button to open the Hotspot (WLAN) settings menu.
Activate assignment of the mobile device on the Infotainment system. To do this, activate the Mobile hotspot checkbox.
Touch the Hotspot (WLAN) settings function button. Take the name of the hotspot and the network key from the Hotspot (WLAN) settings sub-menu.
Enter the displayed network key on the mobile device and confirm.
The WLAN connection is set up. Further entries may be required on the mobile device to conclude the connection.
Repeat the procedure to connect further mobile devices.
The following hotspot settings can also be adjusted in the Hotspot settings menu:
Security level : the encryption type WPA2 is displayed. The encryption type WPA2 automatically generates a network key.
Network key : automatically generated network code. Touch the function button to manually modify the network key. The network key should consist of at
least eight and a maximum of 63 characters.
SSID : name of the WLAN network (maximum 32 characters). Tap the function button to manually change the name of the WLAN network.
Do not send network name (SSID) : activate checkbox in order to switch off WLAN network visibility.
The types of possible data connection depend on the country and the vehicle equipment level.
Fast connection (WPS)1)
A fast connection (WPS) makes it possible to easily and quickly set up a wireless local network with encryption.
The WLAN connection is set up.
Repeat the procedure to connect further WLAN devices.
WPS with Infotainment system as WLAN hotspot

Tap the Mobile hotspot function button to open the Hotspot settings menu.
Tap the WPS quick connection (WPS button) function button.
Activate WPS on the mobile device to be connected2).
Repeat the procedure to connect further mobile devices.
WPS with Infotainment system as client

Activate WPS on the external WLAN device.
WPS is not supported by all mobile devices or other external WLAN devices. In such cases, establish the connection manually:
Set up the Infotainment system as a WLAN hotspot ⇒ WLAN hotspot .
Connect the Infotainment system as a client with the hotspot of an external WLAN device ⇒ Setting up a WLAN client .

2) Only one WPS connection can be established at any one time. If you attempt to establish several connection at once, all connections attempts will fail.
Setting up a WLAN client
The Infotainment system can use the WLAN hotspot of an external WLAN device (e.g. a mobile device) to set up an Internet connection for Volkswagen Car-Net 1).
Setting up the WLAN connection

Activate the WLAN hotspot on the WLAN device; refer to the manufacturer's operating instructions.
Tap the WLAN function button to open the Hotspots (WLAN) menu.
Activate WLAN on the Infotainment system. To do this, activate the WLAN checkbox.
Touch the Search function button and select the required WLAN hotspot from the list. The process of searching for available WLAN hotspots can take a
few seconds.
If necessary, enter the network key of the WLAN hotspot on the Infotainment system and confirm with OK .
The WLAN connection is set up. Further entries may be required on the WLAN device to conclude the connection.
Manual settings : enter the network settings of an external WLAN device manually.
Due to the large number of possible WLAN devices, it is not possible to guarantee fault-free operation of all functions.
The availability of the WLAN function depends on the country concerned and may vary.

Tap the Network function button to open the Network settings menu.
To adjust the settings for a certain function, touch the appropriate function button. Changes are automatically stored when a menu is closed.
Network settings :
Input of the Access point name , User name and Password are automatically filled by presets. These settings can be changed
manually when needed, as per the relevant mobile network operator's instructions.
Authentication : authentication (confirmation of identity check) may be necessary with some mobile network operators. If this is the case select
Safe, otherwise select Normal.
Reset automatic connection settings : settings and input made are reset to default settings.

Please note the following points during an active Apple CarPlay connection:

The connected iPhone cannot be used as a media device in the Media menu.

The telephone functions described in the following section can be selected via the Infotainment system screen if a mobile telephone is paired with and connected
to it and switched on.
The requirement for a connection between a telephone and the Infotainment system is that the telephone supports the Bluetooth ® function.
If no telephone is connected to the Infotainment system, the mobile phone interface cannot be used.

The screen displays for the individual telephone menus depend on the functional scope of the telephone being used. There may be differences.
Use compatible Bluetooth® devices only. Information on compatible Bluetooth® products is available from your Volkswagen dealership or online.
Most electronic devices are shielded against high-frequency signals. In rare cases, however, electronic devices may not be shielded against radio-frequency
signals emitted by the mobile telephone interface. This can cause interference.
Observe country-specific regulations when using a headset.
Using a telephone in the vehicle may cause noise from the loudspeakers.
Areas where special regulations apply
Switch off the telephone and mobile phone interface in areas with a risk of explosion. These areas are not always clearly signposted. These include, for example:
Areas immediately around chemical pipelines and tanks.
Lower decks of ships and ferries.
The area around vehicles which run on liquid gas (such as propane or butane).
Places where there are chemicals or particles such as flour, dust and metal powder in the air.
All other places where the vehicle engine and the telephone must be switched off.
WARNING
Switch the telephone off in areas with a risk of explosion.
NOTICE
Your telephone must always be switched off in areas where special regulations apply and when the use of telephones is forbidden. The radiation produced
by the telephone when switched on may interfere with sensitive technical and medical equipment, possibly resulting in malfunction or damage to the
equipment.
Before using for the first time
After the unit has been reset to its factory settings, you should carry out the following steps before using again for the first time in order to set up the mobile phone
interface:

Pairing and connecting a telephone with the mobile phone interface

Up to two Bluetooth® devices can be connected to the Infotainment system at the same time.
A one-off pairing of the respective telephone and Infotainment system is required in order to operate a telephone via the Infotainment system.
Pairing should only be performed when the vehicle is stationary.
Conditions
Switch on the ignition.
If a headset is connected to the telephone, disconnect it.
Activate the Bluetooth® function on the telephone and on the Infotainment system or set it to visible.
Deactivate keylock on the telephone.
Observe the operating manual for the telephone.
Entries have to be made on the telephone keypad during the pairing process. The telephone must be at hand for this.
Pairing a telephone
Press the PHONE Infotainment button.
Touch the Find telephone function button.
Once the search process is complete, the names of all telephones found will be displayed on the screen.
Select the telephone to be paired from this list of telephones.
The Infotainment system and the telephone are now connected to each other. Further input may be required on the telephone and on the Infotainment system to
conclude the connection process.
If necessary, confirm the pairing on the telephone.
Depending on the telephone:
On the telephone, enter the PIN code displayed on the Infotainment system screen and confirm it.
OR:
Compare the PIN code displayed on the Infotainment system screen with the PIN code displayed on the telephone. If this matches, it has to be confirmed on
both devices.
The PHONE main menu is displayed and the telephone book, call lists and text messages stored in the telephone are loaded automatically once pairing has been
successfully completed. You may need to confirm this on the telephone.
The time taken by the loading process varies depending on the amount of data stored in the telephone. This data is available on the Infotainment system once the
loading process is completed.
Pairing and connecting telephones
Several telephones can be paired with the Infotainment system, but only up to two telephones can be connected to the Infotainment system at the same time.
When you switch the Infotainment system on, a connection is automatically set up to the telephones that were connected last. If a connection to these telephones
cannot be set up, the mobile phone interface automatically attempts to set up a connection to the next telephone in the list of paired telephones.
Bluetooth® connections have a maximum range of about 10 metres (11 yards). Any active Bluetooth® connection is interrupted when this distance is exceeded.
The connection is restored automatically as soon as the device enters the Bluetooth® range again.
Please contact a Volkswagen dealership for additional information about pairing and connecting telephones.
In order to prevent misuse, deactivate visibility on the telephone after pairing it successfully.

For the device search, choose a location where only a few telephones can be expected. The search range for Bluetooth® is approximately 10 metres
(11 yards).
Switching off the mobile phone interface
Switch off the ignition.
Remove the vehicle key from the ignition lock. The mobile phone interface is switched off. An active call is automatically transferred to the telephone.
The mobile phone interface is not switched off if the vehicle key is left in the ignition lock after the engine is switched off. The mobile telephone interface is not
switched off until the switch-off time has elapsed (the factory setting is approximately 15 minutes).
If a telephone was connected to the mobile phone interface, the telephone transmitter will remain switched on after the mobile phone interface is switched
off. The telephone may need to be switched off.

Mailbox no. : enter or change the voice mailbox number.
Sort by : set the sorting order for contacts (Last name or First name).
Import contacts : touch to import the address book from the connected telephone or to update the previously imported address book.
Delete other user profiles : to delete individual or all non-active user profiles.

Bluetooth® technology
Bluetooth® technology is used to connect a telephone to the mobile phone interface of the vehicle. A pairing process needs to be carried out once only to use the
telephone control system with a telephone.
Some telephones are detected and connected automatically when the ignition is switched on, if a connection already exists. For this to happen, the telephone itself
and the Bluetooth® function in the telephone must be switched on and all active Bluetooth® connections to other units must be disconnected. In some cases,
further inputs may have to be made on the telephone.
The Bluetooth® connection is free of charge.
Bluetooth® profiles
When a telephone is connected to the mobile phone interface, data is exchanged via one of the Bluetooth® profiles.
Bluetooth® profile: explanation

Hands-Free Profile
HFP If a telephone is connected via HFP to the telephone control system, you can make calls wirelessly via the hands-free
system. Many other mobile phone interface functions are not available. The vehicle's exterior aerial can not be used for this.

Convenience telephony
Convenience telephony connected to the vehicle's external aerial supports numerous frequency bands.
If a telephone is connected via Bluetooth® Hands-free Profile (HFP⇒ Bluetooth® ) with the mobile phone interface, you can make a wireless call via the hand-free
facility. With the convenience telephony function, this takes place using the external aerial of the vehicle. This reduces the radiation in the vehicle and also
improves reception quality via an additional aerial amplifier. Devices that are compatible with the Qi standard can also be charged wirelessly.
The active telephone must be positioned on the stowage area ⇒ Fig. 38① for it to be connected to the vehicle's external aerial.
The location of the shelf for the telephone for using convenience telephony is vehicle-dependent ⇒BookletOwner's Manual,.
Establishing a connection to the external aerial of the vehicle.
If the active telephone is positioned correctly, the aerial of the telephone connects automatically to the vehicle's external aerial.
Depending on equipment: an additional aerial amplifier ensures good transmission quality.
If the telephone is not connected to the vehicle's external aerial, observe the information about mobile communications in the vehicle ⇒BookletOwner's Manual,.

Observe the following points to avoid compromising the connection between the telephone and the vehicle's external aerial:
The telephone should not have an overall length of more than around 140 mm.
You should only ever position one telephone on the stowage area ⇒ Fig. 38① .
Remove the telephone from its case or protective cover before positioning it in the stowage area.
Do not place any metallic objects (e.g. keys, coins etc.) in the stowage area. These could become very hot.
Possible connection types – Convenience
The connection types for convenience telephony are identical to those for the telephone preparation Basic ⇒ Basic mobile phone interface .

The wireless charging function allows energy to be wirelessly transmitted a short distance by way of electromagnetic induction.
The maximum charging output is 5 watts.

Always place only one Qi-enabled telephone without a protective sleeve with a maximum length of 140 mm ⇒ and ⇒ on the stowage area of the wireless
charging feature.
In certain vehicles, a telephone symbol on the insertion mat indicates the middle position of the wireless charging feature ⇒ Fig. 38① .
To charge a Qi-enabled telephone, place it with the display facing up in the stowage compartment ⇒ Fig. 38 . The charging process then starts automatically. The
operating manual or the telephone manufacturer provides information about whether the telephone supports the Qi standard.
The Infotainment system installed at the factory notifies about the start of the charging operation and, if necessary, about any external objects with metallic
components detected such as coins, keys, etc. in the stowage compartment. Remove foreign objects as quickly as possible.⇒ .
If the telephone has not been placed correctly or is too large in dimensions, it cannot be detected or detected correctly. The system may then report a foreign
object in the stowage compartment. Correct positioning in the tray can eliminate the fault.
Qi-enabled telephones that are too large in their dimensions cannot be charged using the wireless charging facility.

WARNING
Do not place any objects made of metal or with metallic components on the tray of the wireless charging function. Metallic objects can get very hot. That
can cause skin burns and fire.
NOTICE
Do not place any ID cards, credit cards etc. with magnetic strips or with a chip in the stowage compartment with the wireless charger feature. Data
stored on the magnetic strip or chip could be damaged, deleted or rendered unusable.
The charging time and temperature vary depending on the telephone used.
In order to avoid faults, pay attention to the correct position of the telephone on the stowage area.
1) The Qi standard enables wireless charging of suitable Qi-enabled telephones. The wireless charging function is not available for all vehicle models.
Contacts menu (phonebook)
It may take a few minutes after the first pairing process until the contacts1) from the paired telephone are available on the Infotainment system. If necessary,
confirm the transfer on the telephone.
The contacts can also be opened during an ongoing telephone call.
If an image is stored for a contact, this can also be displayed in a list next to the entry.
1) Depending on what device is used, only contacts from the telephone memory may be loaded.

To send, receive and display text messages (SMS) on the Infotainment system, the connected telephone must support the Bluetooth® profile MAP⇒ Bluetooth®
profiles .
Due to the large number of possible telephones, it is not possible to guarantee operation of all functions.
In the PHONE main menu, touch the SMS function button.

① New text message : create and send a text message.
② Inbox : open the received SMS folder.
③ Sent : open the sent SMS folder.

⑤ Drafts : open the drafts folder. This is where SMS messages that have been stored as a draft are kept.
Open the Templates menu: select a text template from the list.

Favourites (speed dial buttons)

The favourites (speed dial buttons) ⇒ Fig. 42① can be assigned an entry from the contact list.
If an image is stored for a contact, this can also be displayed in the relevant button ⇒ Settings .
All favourites must be assigned manually and are then allocated to a specific user profile.
The functions of favourites (speed dial buttons) are available according to the equipment of the telephone and Infotainment system.
Favourites functions
In the PHONE main menu, touch a free function button.
Touch the Search function button to select a contact.

To assign favourites:
Select the desired contact from the list. If several telephone numbers are stored for the selected contact, select
the desired number.
In the PHONE main menu, touch and hold the favourite until the contact list opens.
To edit favourites: Select the desired contact from the list. If several telephone numbers are stored for the selected contact, select
the desired number.
To delete favourites: A favourite can be deleted under Manage favourites in the User profile settings menu ⇒ Settings .
In the PHONE main menu, briefly touch an assigned favourite button to dial the telephone number stored under
To make a connection with a favourite:

Contacts stored as favourites are not updated automatically. If a contact stored as a favourite is changed on the telephone, the function button must be
assigned again.
Assignment to a user profile
A connected telephone is stored in the telephone control system as a user profile.
A maximum of 4 user profiles can be stored for telephones in the telephone control system. If another telephone is paired, the user profile which has not been used
for the longest amount of time will automatically be deleted.
Each user profile has telephone book data, call lists and settings stored in the User profile settings menu.

If the telephone is reconnected to the telephone control system, the data and settings are available again.
If you edit phonebook entries on the telephone while it is connected, you can start a manual update of the phonebook data via the User profile settings menu. The
telephone book will automatically be updated after a the telephone has made another connection.
Active telephone
An active connected telephone has complete access to the user profile.
All functions of the mobile telephone interface are available.
Passive telephone
A passive connected telephone has no access to the user profile.
Incoming telephone calls can be accepted and conducted via the mobile telephone interface.
Outgoing telephone calls can only be conducted via the mobile phone interface if they are started on the telephone.

Opening the Settings menu

Press the SETTINGS Infotainment button ⇒ .
OR: press the MENU Infotainment button and then touch the Settings function button.
WARNING
Accidents and injuries can occur if the driver is distracted.
Never make changes to settings while the vehicle is in motion.
Adjusting settings
If the checkbox in a function button is ticked , the function is switched on.
Continuously adjustable settings are made with a slider .
Screen : make screen settings.
Switch off screen (in 10 seconds) : when this function is activated, the screen switches off if no button is pressed on the Infotainment
system for about ten seconds. Switch the screen back on again by touching the screen or pressing an Infotainment button.
Brightness : select the brightness of the screen.

Day/night : select display mode (Day, Night or Automatic).
Confirmation tone : activates the confirmation tone that sounds when a function button is touched.
Proximity sensor : proximity sensor is activated. Please refer to ⇒ Proximity sensors .
Show clock in standby mode : the screen shows the current time when the Infotainment system is in standby mode.
Time and date : make time and date settings.
Clock time source : set the time source (GPS or manual).
GPS : the time and date can be selected using the Time zone function button. The function buttons Time and Date for
manual entry are then inactive.
Manual : the time and date can be entered manually using the function buttons Time and Date .
Time : set the current time manually.
Automatic summer time : the time will adjust automatically.
Time zone : select the required time zone.
Time format : select the format for the time display (12 or 24-hour).
Date : set the current date.
Date format : select the format for the date display (dd.mm.yy, yy-mm-dd or mm-dd-yy).
Language : select the desired language for text and voice output.
Keypad a): select the required layout (alphabetical or keyboard layout).
More keypad languages a): select additional keypad languages.
Units : sets units of measurement for displays in the vehicle.

Distance, Speed, Temperature, Volume, Consumption and Pressure.
Mobile device data transfer a) Settings for operating the Infotainment system with apps on mobile devices (e.g. change track in media mode).
Support apps : the protocol interface to apps on mobile devices is active. Deactivating the function means that no further settings can be
made.
Operation using apps :
Deactivate : actions carried out on an app are not implemented.
Confirm : actions carried out on an app must be confirmed prior to implementation on the Infotainment system.
Allow : actions carried out on an app are implemented without further confirmation.
Remove safely : remove the relevant data medium from the system. The function button is greyed out once the data medium has been ejected from the
system.
Factory settings : Resets to the original settings and deletes the selected entries and settings.
Bluetooth : opens the Bluetooth settings menu ⇒ Telephone settings .
System information : displays the system information (serial number, hardware and software versions).
Update software a): update your software version. Do not remove an SD card while the software is being updated.
Online download a): touch the function button to import, for example, POIs that were created in your Car-Net user account ⇒ Volkswagen Car-
Net services , see www.volkswagen.com/car-net.
Copyright : copyright information.
Voice control : make settings relating to voice control ⇒ Voice control .
Network : opens the Network settings menu ⇒ Adjusting settings .

Continuously adjustable settings are made with a slider .
Volume : to adjust volume settings.
Voice Enhancer a): switches the voice enhancer on and off, and adjusts the transmission volume.
Announcements a): set the volume of traffic announcements.
Navigation announcements a): to set the output volume for the acoustic navigation recommendations.
Maximum switch-on volume : to set the maximum switch-on volume.
Volume adjustment : to define the scope of the speed-dependent volume control. The audio volume is automatically increased as the vehicle
speed increases.
AUX volume a): sets the playback volume of audio sources that are connected via the AUX-IN socket ⇒ Adjusting the volume of external audio
sources .
Bluetooth audio a): sets the playback volume of audio sources that are connected via Bluetooth®⇒ Adjusting the volume of external audio sources .
Voice control a): to set the output volume for voice control.
Bass - Mid - Treble b): individual sound settings.
Balance - Fader b): to set the sound focus.
The crosshair shows the where the sound is currently focused in the car's interior. To move the sound focus, touch the required position on the interior view or
use the arrow buttons to change the position. To place the focus of sound at the centre of the interior view, touch the function button between the arrows.
Confirmation tone : activates the confirmation tone that sounds when a function button is touched.

No navigation announcements during call a): no acoustic navigation recommendations are issued during a telephone call.
Dynaudio sound character b): select or set the sound character.
Individual : individual adjustment of the sound character.
Profile : sets the sound character by choosing from four preset tone profiles ( Authentic , Soft , Dynamic or Speech ).
Dynaudio sound focus b): set the sound focus (balance - fader).
Individual : sets the sound focus. The crosshair shows the where the sound is currently focused in the car's interior. To move the sound focus, touch
the required position on the interior view or use the arrow buttons to change the position. To place the focus of sound at the centre of the interior view,
touch the function button between the arrows.
Profile : select from four preset sound focus areas that are optimised for the specified positions ( Front L , Front R , Rear or
Front + rear ). Select the required sound focus area by touching it.
Subwoofer a): set the intensity of the subwoofer.
WARNING
b) Function omitted for units with Dynaudio. The settings can be modified in the Dynaudio menus.
Adjusting the volume of external audio sources
Adjusting the playback volume of external audio sources
If you need to increase the output volume of an external audio source, first lower the volume on the Infotainment system.
If the sound from the external audio source is too quiet, increase the external audio source's output volume. If this is not sufficient, set the input volume to
Medium or Loud.
If the sound from the connected external audio source is too loud or distorted, lower the output volume on the external audio source. If this is not sufficient, set the
input volume to Medium or Quiet.
