RECAP
Here you can add your subtitle.
Learning Target.
Recognize the structure and composition of
the Universe

Describe the historical development theories

that explain the universe.
STRUCTURE,
COMPOSITION,
AND AGE OF THE
UNIVERSE
DID YOU KNOW?
❑ The universe as we currently know it comprises all
SPACE and (MEIT),
(APSEC) MATTER & (ERENYG)
TIME and all (RETATM) ENERGY in it.

❑ BARYONIC MATTER
It is made of 4.6% (CINORYAB TERTAM),
COLD DARK
24% (LDCO ARKD MATTER
TERMAT), and
71.4% (ARKD ERNEGY).
DARK ENERGY
DID YOU KNOW?
❑ HYDROGEN (LIUMEH),
(DROHYNEG), HELIUM (MUITHLI)
LITHIUM are the three most
abundant elements.

❑ STARS the building block of galaxies born out of clouds

(TASRS)
of gas and dust in galaxies
❑ GALAXY is a cluster of billions of stars and clusters of
A (XYAGLA)
SUPERCLUSTERS
galaxies form (TERSCLUSPERSU).
DID YOU KNOW?
❑ Based on the recent data, the universe is
13.8 billion years old.
____
1. What are the three most abundant elements in universe?
2. What matter does the universe consist of at 4.6%?
3. What comprises baryonic matter?

4. What matter has gravity but does not emit light?

5. What comprises 71.4% of the universe?
6. What is the building block of galaxies?
7. What do you call the cluster of stars?
8. How old is the universe?
How did the universe start?
GREEK MYTHOLOGY
CREATIONISM
HELIOCENTRISM
Aristarchus of Samos
- Greek astronomer who first proposed a
heliocentric model of the universe .
GEOCENTRISM
Claudius Ptolemy
- Proposed the Geocentric Model.
Nicolaus Copernicus
-was a mathematician and astronomer who
proposed that the sun was stationary in the
center of the universe and the earth revolved
around it.
Galileo Galilei
-Astronomer physicist mathematician inventor
and philosopher
- used his telescopes to prove that Sun was the
center of the Solar System and not the Earth.
- his observations strongly supported a Sun-
centered model known as the Heliocentric
model, previously suggested by astronomers
like Nicolaus Copernicus.
Galileo Galilei
For his heresy in claiming that Earth orbits the
Sun, Galileo was sentenced to life imprisonment
by the Roman Catholic Church in 1633. He was
not tortured or executed. He served his sentence
under house arrest and died at home in 1642
after an illness.
Concept Notes:

• Geocentric Theory- the idea that the Earth is the center

of the universe and other objects go around it.

• Heliocentric Theory- the Earth and planets revolve

around the sun at the center of the universe.
