OF CIVIC WELFARE
 1. Objectives
At the end of this lesson, the student is expected to:

•understand importance of civic welfare

•know its international and Philippine mandates and
plans;
•learn how civic welfare was present across history and
during the pandemic, as well as in the future;
•apply the knowledge in civic welfare;
 Importance of Civic Welfare
Civic welfare is important for several compelling reasons, to wit:

Promotion of Social Justice

Civic welfare initiatives aim to reduce social inequalities and disparities,
ensuring that all members of society have equal access to opportunities
and resources. This promotes social justice, which is fundamental for a fair
and equitable society. (Rawis,1971).

Human Rights and Dignity

Civic welfare programs uphold and protect human rights, such as the right
to life, education, healthcare, and a decent standard of living. These rights
are essential for human dignity and well-being. (United Nations, 1948)
 Economic Stability
Civic welfare policies, such as social safety nets and poverty alleviation
programs, contribute to economic stability by reducing poverty and preventing
financial crises among vulnerable populations. (World Bank, 2019).

Health and Well-being

Access to quality healthcare and public health initiatives supported by civic
welfare contribute to improved health outcomes and overall well-being.

Education and Human Capital Development

Civic welfare programs that promote equal access to education enhance human
capital development, leading to a more skilled and productive workforce.
 Social Cohesion
Civic welfare initiatives foster social cohesion by encouraging community
engagement, volunteerism, and collective action, which are vital for building strong
and resilient societies. (Putnam, 2000).

Reduction of Crime and Violence

Addressing social and economic disparities through civic welfare programs can
contribute to reducing crime rates and promoting safer communities.

Civic welfare encompasses environmental considerations, promoting policies and
practices that protect the environment and ensure a clean and healthy living
environment for current and future generations (United Nations, 2015).

assistance.

Social Services and Welfare of Vulnerable Populations Civic welfare includes a
