PLANNING ACCORDING TO TIME AND PURPOSE

Reporter: Ma. Nazarene Joy R. Pangarotan (c/o Anthony Gonzales)

Objectives:

- Discuss briefly the importance of:

Planning according to purpose

Planning according to time

- Elaborate and provide examples of Short-Term Planning in Education

Introduction

Planning according to both time and purpose is essential for effective goal achievement
and resource utilization. When time and purpose are considered together in the planning
process, individuals and organizations can ensure that their efforts are focused on
activities that align with overarching objectives within specified timeframes.
This alignment helps in setting realistic expectations, avoiding overcommitment or
underutilization of resources, and maximizing productivity. By understanding the
purpose behind the tasks or goals to be achieved, planners can prioritize activities based
on their importance and urgency, ensuring that resources such as time, money, and
manpower are allocated where they will have the most significant impact.

PLANNING ACCORDING TO PURPOSE

Planning according to purpose is crucial for providing direction, optimizing resource

allocation, fostering alignment and collaboration, measuring outcomes, adapting to
change, and ensuring long-term success and sustainability. It serves as a guiding
framework that enables individuals and organizations to achieve meaningful and
impactful results aligned with their overarching objectives and mission.

PLANNING ACCORDING TO TIME

Planning according to time involves structuring tasks, activities, and goals within
specific timeframes to achieve desired outcomes efficiently and effectively. It
encompasses setting deadlines, creating schedules, and allocating resources in a way
that optimizes productivity and ensures that objectives are met within the designated
time constraints.

When planning according to time, individuals or organizations consider factors such as:

ü Setting Clear Timelines

ü Scheduling Activities

ü Managing Resources

ü Monitoring Progress

ü Adapting to Changes

Here are the common time horizons used in planning:

ü Short – Term Plan

ü Medium Term Plan

ü Single Purpose Plan

ü Strategic Plan

SHORT TERM PLAN

A short-term educational plan spanning 1-3 years in the field of education focuses on
immediate and near-future objectives aimed at enhancing learning outcomes and
improving educational experiences. Within this timeframe, educational institutions may
prioritize initiatives such as curriculum enhancements, professional development for
educators, and the implementation of innovative teaching methodologies.

For instance, schools may revise their curriculum to align with updated standards or
incorporate new instructional technologies to engage students more effectively.
Additionally, professional development opportunities for teachers and staff can be
organized to enhance pedagogical practices and foster a supportive learning
environment.

IMPORTANCE OF SHORT-TERM PLAN

ü Focus and clarity

Short-term plans provide clarity and focus by outlining specific goals, tasks, and
objectives that need to be accomplished within a defined period. They help individuals
and organizations understand what needs to be done in the near future, enabling them to
prioritize their efforts and resources effectively.

ü Immediate Action

Short-term plans facilitate prompt action and decision-making. By breaking down larger
goals into smaller, manageable tasks, they encourage individuals and teams to take
concrete steps towards progress and achievement. This agility is particularly valuable in
fast-paced environments where rapid responses to changing circumstances are
necessary.

ü Adaptability

Short-term plans allow for adaptability and flexibility in response to evolving situations
and emerging opportunities or challenges. They provide a framework for adjusting
strategies, reallocating resources, and making course corrections as needed to stay on
track and maintain momentum towards goals.
ü Motivation and Momentum

Short-term plans create a sense of urgency and motivation to accomplish tasks and
achieve objectives within a relatively short timeframe. They help maintain momentum by
setting achievable milestones and celebrating incremental successes along the way,
which can boost morale and keep individuals and teams engaged and motivated.

EXAMPLES OF SHORT TERM PLAN

o Weekly Lesson Plan

o Action Plans

o Annual Project Implementation Plan

o School Improvement Plan

SUMMARY/CONCLUSION

In summary, the short-term plan provides a strategic blueprint for addressing immediate
objectives and challenges within the specified timeframe. By meticulously establishing
clear goals, allocating resources judiciously, and establishing concise timelines, the plan
underscores a commitment to efficiency and effectiveness.

Short-term planning in education serves as a mechanism for continuous improvement

and accountability.

By setting Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART) goals,

educators can track progress, identify areas for refinement, and make data-informed
decisions to optimize student outcomes.

TOPIC: STRATEGIC PLANNING (PLANNING)

REPORTED BY: AMOR CLARICE S. POBLETE, MAED-EM

GROUP #: 2

INTRODUCTION

Strategic planning guides educational development by giving a common vision and shared
priorities. Educational planning is both visionary and pragmatic, engaging a wide range of actors
in defining education’s future and mobilizing resources to reach its goals.

Strategic planning is a process in which an organization's leaders define their vision for the
future and identify their organization's goals and objectives. The process includes establishing
the sequence in which those goals should be realized so that the organization can reach its
stated vision.

PURPOSE OF STRATEGIC PLANNING

1. A strategic plan articulates a shared vision, mission and values.

2. A strategic plan effectively organizes schools, staff, and time.

3. A strategic plan defines how success is measured.

4. A strategic plan helps with decision-making, responsiveness, and innovation.

5. A strategic plan increases communication and engagement

6. A strategic plan keeps everyone in a school—from teachers to administrators—connected.

7. The best reason of all for strategic planning comes back to every great school’s number one
priority: students

IMPORTANCE OF STRATEGIC PLANNING

1. The mission. Strategic planning starts with a mission that offers a company a sense of purpose
and direction. The organization's mission statement describes who it is, what it does and where it
wants to go. Missions are typically broad but actionable. For example, a business in the
education industry might seek to be a leader in online virtual educational tools and services.

2. The goals. Strategic planning involves selecting goals. Most planning uses SMART goals --
specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound -- or other objectively measurable
goals. Measurable goals are important because they enable business leaders to determine how
well the business is performing against goals and the overall mission. Goal setting for the
fictitious educational business might include releasing the first version of a virtual classroom
platform within two years or increasing sales of an existing tool by 30% in the next year.

3. Alignment with short-term goals. Strategic planning relates directly to short-term, tactical
business planning and can help business leaders with everyday decision-making that better
aligns with business strategy. For the fictitious educational business, leaders might choose to
make strategic investments in communication and collaboration technologies, such as virtual
classroom software and services but decline opportunities to establish physical classroom
facilities.

4. Evaluation and revision. Strategic planning helps business leaders periodically evaluate
progress against the plan and make changes or adjustments in response to changing conditions.
For example, a business may seek a global presence, but legal and regulatory restrictions could
emerge that affect its ability to operate in certain geographic regions. As a result, business
leaders might have to revise the strategic plan to redefine objectives or change progress metrics.

STEPS IN STRATEGIC PLANNING

1. Identify. A strategic planning cycle starts with the determination of a business's current strategic
position. This is where stakeholders use the existing strategic plan -- including the mission statement and
long-term strategic goals.

2. Prioritize. Next, strategic planners set objectives and initiatives that line up with the company mission
and goals and will move the business toward achieving its goals. There may be many potential goals, so
planning prioritizes the most important, relevant and urgent ones. Goals may include a consideration of
resource requirements -- such as budgets and equipment -- and they often involve a timeline.

3. Develop. This is the main thrust of strategic planning in which stakeholders collaborate to formulate the
steps or tactics necessary to attain a stated strategic objective. This may involve creating numerous
short-term tactical educational plans that fit into the overarching strategy. Stakeholders involved in plan
development use various tools such as a strategy map to help visualize and tweak the plan. Developing
the plan may involve cost and opportunity tradeoffs that reflect business priorities. Developers may reject
some initiatives if they don't support the long-term strategy.

4. Implement. Once the strategic plan is developed, it's time to put it in motion. This requires clear
communication across the organization to set responsibilities, make investments, adjust policies and
processes, and establish measurement and reporting. Implementation typically includes strategic
management with regular strategic reviews to ensure that plans stay on track.

5. Update. A strategic plan is periodically reviewed and revised to adjust priorities and reevaluate goals
as business conditions change and new opportunities emerge.

STRATEGY MAP

A strategy map is a planning tool or template used to help stakeholders visualize the complete strategy of
a plan as one interrelated graphic. These visualizations offer a powerful way for understanding and
reviewing the cause-and-effect relationships among the elements of an educational strategy.

A strategy map can help translate overarching goals into an action plan and goals that can be aligned and
implemented.

IMPLICATIONS
Strategic planning is a critical factor that influences the success of the organization in the long-term.
Strategic planning affects the performance of managers. It also influences human resource capabilities
and the attractiveness of the organization to employees and other stakeholders. Moreover, strategic
planning affects the organizational flexibility to address changes in the curriculum, including changes in
strategies and approaches. Strategic planning determines the long-term success of the curriculum and
the learners involved in the process.

CONCLUSION

Planning is a crucial step in ensuring a successful organization. It keeps the communication line
open for everyone, for this provides an opportunity for all members of the educational process to
take part not only on the implementation but also in crafting and building the plan.

As well as it keeps the educators, learners and other stakeholders ready in any possible
challenges that may occur in regards to the curriculum. This also develops the sense of
preparedness and contingency in an institution.

TOPIC: SINGLE USE/PURPOSE PLAN

REPORTED AND PREPARED BY: MARISSA SHIRLEY ROSE D. CASTRO - MAED

OBJECTIVES:

● to define single-use / purpose plan,

● to understand the importance of single-use plans in achieving specific, short-term goals
within an organization, and
● to identify examples of single-use plans in our organization.

INTRODUCTION:

Everything we do starts with a plan. What to eat, what to wear, where are we going, or do we
want to go to work? In an organization, planning is the essence of success. As the saying goes,
failure to plan is planning to fail. The plan must be smart, specific, measurable, achievable,
relevant, and time-bound. The time frame can categorize our plans, whether short-term,
intermediate, or long-term. In this discussion, I will discuss a plan that is meant to be used once,
which is called the single-use/purpose plan.

DISCUSSION
Single-use/purpose plan

involves planning for specific activities or projects that are used only once and have a defined
endpoint. Once the activity or project is completed, the plan is no longer applicable.

Types of Single-use / purpose plan

1. Program is a comprehensive plan designed to implement the policies and accomplish the
objective by combining goals, task assignments, policies, resources, etc.

2. Budget is a statement of expected results that are expressed in numerical terms for a definite
period. It is a single-use plan expressed in quantitative terms. It is a projection of anticipated
cost results and the allocation of resources.

CONCLUSION:
To sum up, single-purpose plans provide a targeted strategy for accomplishing specific goals in
an organization. These plans increase efficiency by focusing on strategies, resources, and
efforts on a single objective. Since the focus is on a single objective, it's easier to track
progress, measure outcomes, and make necessary adjustments along the way. If there is a
specific problem then a specific solution is what it needs.

TOPIC: Planning According to Time And Purpose- MEDIUM-TERM PLAN (PLANNING)

REPORTED BY: SUNSHINE GITO , MAED-EM

• INTRODUCTION

• Planning includes the plan, the thought process, action, and implementation.

• Planning is deciding in advance what to do, how to do it, when to do it, and who should
do it. It bridges the gap from where the organization is to where it wants to be.

What is Medium-term plan?

• There are no exact definitions, but medium-term covers a range from 2 to 5 or 10

years.

• Medium-term goals are goals you plan to achieve within five to 10 years. Regardless of
your profession and background, setting medium-term goals can help you plan your
future success and stay motivated.

Why Medium-term plan is important?

• It helps you to create a roadmap for your business and measure your progress over
time.

• Medium-term goals are important because they can help you assess your progress in
both your personal and professional development journeys.
Summary

The Curriculum Framework serves to display meaningful curriculum experiences and

activities as well as identified constraints. It is extremely important to clarify exactly what
will be provided in the curriculum and the reasons why. Spelling out the content and the
constraints associated with a curriculum enables everyone to see just what limitations
are imposed on the content. An additional benefit has to do with the accountability.

Given that medium-term goals can have deadlines up to a decade into the future,
it's important to ensure to clear the timeline of the project.

This helps to develop a schedule of smaller tasks and shorter-term goals that
can work on to reach the objective. Having a clear timeline and setting deadlines keeps
constantly aware of the progress.

CONCLUSION

When planning is executed correctly, the objective we want to achieve for a

short-term can be used for long-term plan. With the right framework at your fingertips,
you'll be equipped to make improvements as circumstances change for our school,
teachers, students, our subject, and society.

It is also important follow the SMART system when creating goals of any size.
This five-part framework ensures you set objectives that are specific, measurable,
achievable, relevant, and time-bound.

Working on medium-term goals generally requires significant time, resources,

energy, and commitment. Before setting and committing to one, it's important to be sure
that achieving the respective goal can help you gain personal or professional satisfaction
.

INTRODUCTION

Educational planning and management are critical components of the education system
in the Philippines. Effective planning and management can help improve the quality of
education, increase access to education, and promote equity and inclusivity.

A well-planned educational system ensures that all students have access to quality
education and can reach their fullest potential. Educational planning also allows for the
identification of areas where improvements need to be made to provide students with
the best possible education.

System approach is a rational problem solving method of analyzing the educational

process and making it more effective. It aims at finding the most efficient and
economically cost effective methods for solving educational problems scientifically.

Educational planning generally is understood to be the identification, development,

and implementation of strategies designed to attain, efficiently and effectively, the
educational needs and goals of students and society.

Educational Management is a field which is concerned with the operation of

educational organizations. It is the process of planning, organizing and directing
activities in a school, effectively utilizing human and material resources, in order to
accomplish the school's objectives.

SYSTEM APPROACH
is a rational problem solving method of analyzing the educational process and making it
more effective. It aims at finding the most efficient and economically cost effective
methods for solving educational problems scientifically.

SYSTEMS APPROACH TO EDUCATIONAL PLANNING

Developed by Ernesto Franco

FRANCO, stresses that planning should build on past gains or achievements: at the
same time, however, it should start new initiatives and strike for new grounds precisely
because change never ends, is always taking place, and will even be more complex
and rapid in years ahead.

SYSTEMS APPROACH TO EDUCATIONAL PLANNING

KEY POINTS

SUMMARY

• Deardeb (1972) says that “the system approach is nothing more or less than
what a competent, smart, adequate business executive adopts in the ordinary
conduct of his business”. Makridas (1971) says that “the system approach to
management is basically a way of thinking. The organization is viewed as an
integrated complex of independent parts which are capable of sensitive and
accurate interaction among themselves and with their environment”.

• Educationists define the system approach as an approach which aims at finding

the most efficient and economically cost effective methods for solving
educational problems scientifically.

• The system approach provides a framework for all the factors that influence the
solution of educational problems or the achievement of objective. System
approach is a rational problem solving method of analysing the educational
process and making it more effective.

CONCLUSIONS
• Management is crucial for the success of any organization. It involves planning,
organizing, coordinating and directing a group of people to accomplish to
achieve specific goals and objectives effectively. To be an effective leader,
you must understand how to manage your workforce.

• Next comes job analysis and the establishment of performance standards for
each position within your organization. From there, you can develop job
descriptions and find out which employees are best suited by matching their
skills with available positions within your company’s structure, as well as
developing training programs that will help them grow into their roles as
leaders within your business.

• By providing leadership and direction, management plays a key role in guiding

the organization towards its goals and objectives.
