they learned in the previous lesson. The teacher will also ask the students if there are
words in the word hunt that are new to them.
Degree of Polynomial
The degree of a polynomial with one variable is the value of the largest exponent
of the variable that appears in any term.
-2x3 + 3x2 – 2x +5 third (3rd) degree
-9a5 + 10a4 – 3a2 – 3 fifth (5th) degree
The degree of a polynomial with two or more variables is the highest degree for a
term with nonzero coefficient.
12x3y3 + 5x3y2 – 4x2y – 10 sixth (6th) degree
7m4n3 – 2m2n – 6n3 – 9 seventh (7th) degree
5x5 + 3x3 – x
3 – 8x
x2 – 9
13 – 2x + x5
100x3
2x3 – 4x2 + x4 - 6
