I. OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson students should be able to:
1. Explain expressive criticism and its purpose;
2. Apply expressive criticism to a particular piece of work, such as, analyzing novel
"Eat, Pray and Love"by a Elizabeth Gilbert ; and
3. Reflect on the broader significance of expressive criticism in comprehending
the impact of expressive movements on history and conduct.
II. MOTIVATION
I RACE YOU!
Directions: Students will be divided into 4 groups ( team Sikdot, Lato Lato, Check ayy, and Forda
go). This will look like a race because I will represent here 10 jumbled letters, and each group
will raise their group name if they know the answer. The first one who raise their group name
will be the one to answer only in 3 seconds if their answer are correct then the points will be
given to the group, and if not others group will be given a chance to raise their group name and
give the answer.

III. INTRODUCTION
Good afternoon class, today we'll be discussing the Expressive criticism, it's definition,
history, and proponents and all terms related to expressive.
IV. BODY/CONTENT
Definition
Expressive criticism emphasizes the author as a creator of a work , stresses the artists
emotions and beliefs and presumes that the work contains inadvertently or not, revelations of
the authors life personality.
It is about how well an author expresses or conveys him/herself, his/her visions and
feelings in his or her works.
Analysis based on the idea that a person's life and times influenced her works.
Expressionism is German movement in painting but later on, it extended it's access to other
literary work primarily on the relation to the author.
Expressive criticism developed in the Romantic Age. The three main concepts that
expressive theorist still stick today are imagination, genius, and emotion.
One of the big names with expressive criticism is William Wordsworth. He defines poetry as
"emotion recollected in tranquility".
V. APPLICATION TASK
PERFECT IMPERFECTIONS
If someone makes a mistakes in life, does make them a bad person? Can someone admit to
being imperfect and still be proud of himself or herself? On a sheet of paper, write six
sentences in the following form, "I may be [something negative], but [something positive]. For
example, "I may smoke, I'm trying to quit." I may have problems but I'm still a good person."
After that choose a partner take turns saying a statement keep looking their eyes for a count of
ten seconds without laughing.
