ABSTRACT

Impact of Discrimination on LGBT

School is the second home for students. The learning process that takes place in
school shapes the way they behave in future but in the Philippines, students who are lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender (LGBT) suffer from different discrimination and bullying whether it is verbal or
physical abuse from their classmates and sometimes their teacher too. LGBT are at high risk of suicide
which is linked with their experiences of being rejected and discriminated based on their gender
identity. This study wants to know the experience of Grade 11 LGBT students of University of the East
towards the discrimination they feel and how it affects their psychosocial development. The researchers
chose to conduct the research with the use of interview, because it is the most prevailed when it comes
to answering the questions by the participants and to know the respondents’ behavior toward the
present situation about how discrimination affects LGBT students’ psychosocial development. It is hoped
that this study will help the LGBT students of University of the East to have a voice and to inform the
people around them about the impact of discrimination on LGBT.
