CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

3.1 Research Design

In this study, the researchers will use descriptive research design.

Descriptive design will be used since this study aims to describe the student-

teachers’ perceptions and attitudes towards using Artificial Intelligence in practice

teaching at Lanao School of Science and Technology, Inc. Abaga, Lala, Lanao del

Norte.

3.2 Research Locale

The study will be conducted in Lanao School of Science and Technology,

Inc. which is found at Barangay Abaga, Maranding, Lala, Lanao del Norte.

According to the recent census, it has a population of 35, 339 people. This

institution is a private educational institution founded in 1998, the school prides itself in

providing affordable quality education and in having a community that is diverse and

empowering. With this kind of environment, students develop to be competent and

responsible members not only of the local but of the global community. The school has

an area within their campus called the "little forest". It manifests LSSTI's thrust for

environmental care and also for diversity, as the little forest serves as a place for the
socialization of its students who come from various cultural, religious, and socio-

economic backgrounds..

The school currently offers programs in Junior High School, Senior High School,

and College. The SHS department has a variety of strands available from the Academic

Track and the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) Track. For college-level students,

LSSTI provides degree programs in Midwifery, Computer Science, Midwifery, Business

Administration, Criminology, and Teacher Education. It also offers different TVET

courses in the following areas: Hotel and Restaurant Services and Tourism; Health,

Social, and Community Development Service; Automotive/ Land Transport; Metals and

Engineering; Construction; and, Information and Communication Technology. Lanao

School of Science Technology, Inc. and its programs are duly acknowledged by the

Department of Education (DepEd),

The school is surrounded by many trees and has a lovely, clean

environment. Each room has a large, clean area and everything in each room is

organized. It includes security for the students that are studying in Lanao School

of Science and Technology, Inc.

3.3 Respondents of the Study and Sampling Technique

The respondents of this study are the 134 4 th year student-teachers’ of

Lanao School of Science and Technology, Inc. located at Abaga, Maranding,

Lala, Lanao del Norte who are officially enrolled in the Academic Year 2023-
2024. The researchers will purposively choose the respondents. The researchers

purposively choose respondents to gain in-depth insights, efficiency, and

expertise, and to ensure that the information gathered is relevant and useful for the

research objectives.

3.4 Research Instruments

In this study the researchers will use survey questionnaire to determine the

perceptions of the student-teachers’ towards using Artificial Intelligence. Other

instrument that the researchers will use is survey questionnaire to determine the

attitude of the student-teachers’ towards using Artificial Intelligence. Overall,

these instruments serve as the basic of the researchers to evaluate the student-

teachers’ perceptions and attitude towards using Artificial Intelligence in their

practice teaching.

Scoring Procedure

Questionnaire on Respondents’ Perceptions and Attitude. The

respondents were made to express on a five-point scale to the learners’

perceptions and attitude towards using Artificial Intelligence. The respondents’

will choose an answer based on a five point scale namely: Always (5), Often (4),

Sometimes (3), Seldom (2), and Never (1).

This scoring procedure was adopted from the study of Fabe (2018). The

summated rating scale with its point score range interval and verbal equivalent are

as follows:

Response Interval Positive Verbal

Item
Equivalent
Option Range Weighted
Scale
Scale

Highly
Always 4.21-5.00 5
Positive
Often 3.41-4.20 4 Positive
Sometimes 2.61-3.40 3 Uncertain
Seldom 1.81-2.60 2 Negative
Highly
Never 1.00-1.80 1
Negative

3.5 Data Gathering

The researchers will ask permission through letters from the Lanao School

of Science and Technology, Incorporated Education Department Dean, Lydia D.

Linggolinggo, EdD and to their thesis adviser Ms. Jessa B. Mae Alia. After giving

the permission letter, the researchers will prepare the survey questionnaires that

are relevant to the study. Before the researchers begin, they will administer first

an orientation. After the said orientation, the researchers will administer the

survey questionnaires. After gathering results of the survey from the student-

teachers’, the researchers will tabulate the data obtain, then the Statisticians will

compute the result and the researchers will interpret the data of the study.

3.6 Statistical Analysis

The following statistical tools were used to analyze the data gathered

in the study.

1. Frequency and/or Percentage distribution. This tool will be used to

determine the frequency and percentage of the respondents in their perceptions

towards using Artificial Intelligence. This will used to gather answers in statement

of the problem numbers 1.

Formula:

P= F/N x 100

Where:P is the percentage

F is the frequency of the responses

N is the total number of respondents

100 is constant

2. Weighted Mean. This tool will be used to determine the student-teachers’

perceptions and attitude towards using Artificial Intelligence in practice teaching.

This will used to gather answers in statement of the problem numbers 1 and 2.

Formula:

X=
∑ fx
∑f
Where:X= weighted mean

∑= summation
fx= frequency of the respondents multiplied by its weight
f = frequency

3. Pearson r. A statistical calculation will be use to test the relationship of the

independent variables and dependent variables. In this study it will be used to

determine the relationship between the students’ perceptions and attitude towards

using Artificial Intelligence in practice teaching. This will used to gather answers

in statement of the problem numbers 3.

Formula:

n ∑ xy − ∑ x ∑ y
r=
√ n¿ ¿ ¿
Where:r= Pearson r

∑ ¿¿= Summation
