Job Title Discipline Officer

JOB PURPOSE:

A Discipline Officer is responsible for maintaining and promoting a safe and orderly learning environment
for students. His/Her primary role is to enforce school policies and regulations, manage student behavior,
and address disciplinary issues.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Rule Enforcement: The Discipline Officer ensures that all students are aware of the school's rules,
code of conduct, and policies pursuant to the Learner’s Manual. He/She consistently enforces these rules
and regulations to maintain a positive and respectful school climate.

2. Behavior Management: He/She monitors student behavior both inside and outside the classroom.
He/She intervenes in inappropriate or disruptive behavior, implement disciplinary measures when
necessary, and provides guidance and support to students to help them understand the consequences of
their actions.

3. Investigation: When incidents or conflicts occur, the Discipline Officer investigates the situation,
gathers relevant information, and interviews involved parties, such as students, teachers, and witnesses.
He/She maintains accurate records of incidents, including detailed reports and documentation.

4. Counseling and Guidance: The Discipline Officer may counsel students who have behavioral or
disciplinary issues. He/She provides guidance, support, and mentorship to help students address and
overcome challenges, develop positive coping strategies, and make better choices.

5. Conflict Resolution: He/She mediates conflicts between students, teachers, and other staff members.
He/She facilitates discussions, encourage empathy and understanding, and work towards resolving
conflicts in a fair and constructive manner. Proper escalation procedures should be followed and
coordinated at all times.

6. Collaboration: The Discipline Officer collaborates with teachers, administrators, and parents to
address student behavior concerns. He/She participates in meetings, provide input on disciplinary policies
and procedures, and contribute to the development of strategies to promote positive behavior and
improve the overall school culture.

7. Education and Prevention: He/She partners with the Guidance Office in organizing and delivering
educational programs and initiatives to prevent disciplinary issues and promote positive behavior. This
may include conducting workshops, organizing awareness campaigns, and implementing restorative
justice practices.

8. Referral and Support: The Discipline Officer identifies students who may require additional support or
intervention beyond disciplinary measures. He/She refers students to appropriate resources, such as
counselors, social workers, or special education services, to address underlying issues contributing to
behavioral challenges.

9. Documentation and Reporting: He/She maintains accurate records of disciplinary incidents,


interventions, and outcomes. He/She prepares reports for administrators, teachers, and relevant
stakeholders, documenting trends, patterns, and recommendations for improvement.

10. Professional Development: The Discipline Officer stays updated on best practices in behavior
management, conflict resolution, and student discipline. He/She may attend workshops, conferences, or
training sessions to enhance their skills and knowledge in promoting a positive school climate.
DISCIPLINARY ESCALATION PROCEDURES

Learners are expected to observe proper decorum and social norms inside and outside the school.
Infractions should be discouraged to avoid any sanctions of whatever nature. In case disciplinary
measures are inevitable, the following escalation procedures should be observed:

Definition of Terms:
1. Discipline Incident (DI) happens when a student commits an infraction or displayed a behavior that
should be corrected.

2. Once an incident reaches the Disciple Office, the said incident shall be docketed as a Disciplinary Case
(DC) stating the case number and year. Each DC shall have an individual file with supporting documents,
when applicable. All DCs shall be treated with utmost confidentiality.

3. Due process shall be observed in every stage of the escalation process.

4. The Discipline Officer shall undertake to resolve a case within 3 days from the date of endorsement
from the Guidance Office. Once the case is resolved, the Discipline Officer shall write a recommendation
to the Principal regarding the decision. Once the recommendation is confirmed by the Principal, the
decision encapsulated in the said recommendation
