[00:00 - 00:06] Sorry, Mr. White.

Carol needs to take care of some things at home,

so can't be here for this discussion.
[00:07 - 00:14] I see. Well, that's not a big problem, Alice. I'm recording the
meeting so Carol can listen to it later.
[00:15 - 00:22] We have to carry on, since I've got lots of things to discuss with
you about the Smart City 2030 exhibition plans.
[00:23 - 00:32] To begin with, just to confirm, you've booked the school areas
we'll need for the exhibition, right? Yes, the booking has been completed.
[00:33 - 00:41] That's right. In fact, we completed it last week. It's all done.
And the bookings for the correct dates, I assume?
[00:42 - 00:48] Yes, Mr. White, don't worry. We've booked them for the exhibition
dates, the 2nd and 3rd of May.
[00:49 - 01:00] 2nd and 3rd of May, right. I just wanted to make sure. We don't
want any mix-ups. Now, tell me about the individual exhibits that the...
[01:00 - 01:07] students are working on. How are they coming along? Well, it looks
like we're going to have a total of 16 exhibits.
[01:09 - 01:19] For a while, we thought it was going to be 17, but one of the
groups joined another one, and now they're working on an exhibit together, so it's
back to 16.
[01:19 - 01:30] That's fine. 16's enough, I think. Are you pleased with the
exhibits? The content, I mean. Oh, yes. I think we're going to have some really
exciting...
[01:30 - 01:38] exhibits. Some of them are going to be interactive, including a
cool game that some of the society members have been working on.
[01:38 - 01:51] Yes. We're all looking forward to seeing the game exhibit. It all
sounds great. Oh, before I forget, I should let you know that we've got another
sponsor, too. Pacific University.
[01:52 - 02:02] I think it's good that we've got an academic institution as one of
the sponsors. That's good news. Pacific University's an impressive sponsor to have.
[02:03 - 02:13] All right. I'd like to move on to the exhibition workshop. Have you
fixed when that's going to take place? Yes. It'll be on the first day.
[02:14 - 02:18] So, on the 2nd of May. Morning or afternoon?
[02:18 - 02:29] From 3 to 4 in the afternoon. We wanted to schedule it earlier, but
a couple of the people on the workshop panel couldn't come any earlier. I see.
[02:30 - 02:41] Speaking of the workshop panel, you've been looking for local
experts in technology and future trends to be on it, right? How's that going? Uh,
so far we've got four.
[02:42 - 02:57] Okay, well, I think I've got another for you. A friend of mine,
Roberta Lewis. She's a specialist in Educational Technology, and she wants to be on
the panel. At least, she says she does.
[02:58 - 03:10] She sometimes changes her mind. I'll try to get Miss Lewis to
confirm soon. So then, in total, the workshop panel will have four or five experts
on it.
[03:11 - 03:22] OK, either number will be good. Yes, and good work on getting all
those people for the panel. Now, as I recall, in our last discussion,
[03:22 - 03:34] we thought the topic of the workshop would be something related to
technology and education. Have you narrowed it down at all? Oh, yes. We've got a
firm topic now.
[03:35 - 03:47] Yes, the topic's going to be making classrooms smarter. Hmm, I like
the way you phrased that. Miss Lewis has some experience with smart classroom
technology, in fact.
[03:48 - 04:01] Have you let the other panellists know about the topic? Yes, we've
let them know and they're all happy with the topic. Actually, we're sort of happy
with the topic. We're sort of hoping they might be able to give us some suggestions
[04:01 - 04:11] for making South Hill College classrooms smarter. Aha, you've got a
hidden agenda. Well, in fact, that's what Principal Shue is hoping, too.
[04:12 - 04:24] Can we talk for a moment about the competition? The competition
that will hold us part of the exhibition? Sure. Well, first, I just want to make
sure who's eligible.
[04:25 - 04:36] It's open to all STEM Society members. Isn't it? Yes, all members
of the STEM Society. Right. I've had some other students ask me about it.
[04:36 - 04:47] I told them if they join the society, then they can enter the
competition. It's sort of a perk of joining. But I also wanted to run an idea past
you.
[04:48 - 04:58] We need a grand prize for the competition, right? That's right.
Have you got an idea for it? Well, the school's just...
[04:58 - 05:08] I've just received a couple of donations from some former students,
right? Yes. They used to be in the STEM Society. I assumed we'd give them to the
society.
[05:09 - 05:20] Oh, I get it. Great idea, Daniel. We choose one of the donations
for the STEM Society... And one for the grand prize.
[05:20 - 05:32] Hmm. I guess that would work. Of course, you'll have to choose
which one of the donations the STEM Society... will keep. We will. Just keep
whichever one we need most.
[05:33 - 05:45] And this way, we don't have to go round to different shops asking
them to donate a grand prize. OK, then. That's what we'll do. Now, the last thing I
want to check up on
[05:45 - 05:57] is the documentary video that we'll be showing at the exhibition.
Have you finally decided on a title? Yes. It's going to be called A New Way of
Learning. Hmm.
[05:58 - 06:09] Yes, I like that. Simple and direct. But it makes you want to know
what new way the documentary will talk about. You've completed all the shooting
already, right?
[06:09 - 06:19] Yes. We're doing the final edit now. The final version's going to
be 20 minutes long. Really? That's pretty impressive.
[06:20 - 06:30] And who are you going to credit for the documentary? We're just
going to say it's by the members of the society. No individual names.
[06:30 - 06:41] That's because everybody in the society had a hand in it. From the
writing to the directing and editing. And have you thought of a short description
of the film?
[06:42 - 06:54] One that you can use on the publicity materials? Well, we can say
the documentary's about students' learning progress. More specifically, it's about
their progress in smart classrooms.
[06:55 - 07:04] Which is why we say New Way in the Times. Because smart classrooms
are a new way of learning. It all sounds good to me.
[07:05 - 07:15] You know, with the exhibits, the workshop, the competition and the
documentary, this is definitely going to be the biggest thing South Hill College
has ever done.
[07:17 - 07:29] That is the end of the listening component of this test. You will
have one hour and 15 minutes to complete the written tasks in either part. B1.
[07:29 - 07:35] Or part B2. An announcement will be made when time is up.
