b. Explain the process of measuring horizontal and vertical deviations/tolerances on

building elements and surfaces to check if they are within standards.

general process to follow:

• Establish the Standards: Identify the relevant building standards and regulations that apply to
the building element or surface being inspected. This will help you determine the acceptable
tolerances for the specific building element or surface.
• Choose the Measuring Tools: Select the appropriate measuring tools for the task at hand. This
may include measuring tapes, levels, plumb bobs, laser levels, or other specialized measuring
tools.
• Prepare the Work Area: Ensure that the area to be inspected is clean and clear of any
obstructions that may interfere with the measurements.
• Take Measurements: Use the chosen measuring tools to take horizontal and vertical
measurements of the building element or surface. Start by taking the initial measurement and
then compare it against the standard measurement to see if it is within the acceptable
tolerance range. If not, take additional measurements to determine the extent of the
deviation.
• Record Measurements: Record all measurements taken during the inspection process. This is
important for future reference and to identify any patterns or trends in the data.
• Analyse Results: Analyse the results of the measurements to determine if the building
element or surface is within acceptable tolerances. If the measurements fall outside of the
tolerance range, further investigation may be required to identify the cause of the deviation.
• Take Action: If the measurements indicate that the building element or surface does not meet
the required standards, corrective action may be necessary. This could include making
adjustments to the building element or surface or even replacing it entirely.
By following these steps, you can accurately measure horizontal and vertical
deviations/tolerances on building elements and surfaces, and ensure that they meet the required
standards.

c. Briefly explain the below-mentioned treatments and finishing of common construction

surfaces and elements.
Treatments and finishing Explanation
Surface treatments
Surface Treatments: Surface treatments involve applying a coating
or a protective layer to a surface to enhance its durability and
longevity. For example, concrete surfaces can be treated with
sealants to prevent water penetration and erosion.

Question 3
Answer the following questions related to the processes for planning and scheduling carpentry
work from plans and specifications:

d. What is a Gantt chart and how is it used for planning and scheduling carpentry work
from plans and specifications?

definition

e. How can creating a construction/carpentry project plan help in planning and scheduling
carpentry work from plans and specifications?

Create a construction/carpentry project plan from plans and specifications:

• Create a business case: Before you can break ground, you need a complete business case to
know:
- The details of the job
- If it’s something you want to take on
- What it will take to get the job done
• Lay out your goals: Take the resources you gathered in step one and use them to build a highlevel
strategy on how you’ll map out the project.
• Get the entire team on board and estimate resources: Get your team together to review the
plan or tag them in your project management software as you begin to assign responsibilities.
• Make a list of all the info and tools from your plan and estimate activity durations.
• Prioritise tasks: A complete list of every task, broken down into the basic steps needed to
complete each one, will help you make sure your schedule covers everything. It also gives you
line of sight to see how delays in one area will affect the entire job.
• Create milestones and put everything in order: Project milestones, like completing a
foundation, can be used to create a larger scale schedule that gives you an easier view of the
project.
• Add up how long each task will take
• Assign and inform all tasks owners: Let each individual know what they’re in charge of getting
done and by what date

PART 4: DETERMINE PROJECT REQUIREMENTS AND PLAN PROJECT

Part 4 overview
For this part, you are required to prepare a work plan for each project that should identify the
dimensions, material requirements, and processes to be followed for the two (2) carpentry
projects.
Part 4 Instructions
For this task, you are required to:
Carefully review the drawings, plans and specifications to determine construction details and
dimensions for the project and determine the specific details and dimensions of the project,
including the size and shape of various components, as well as the placement of fixtures and
equipment. In addition, you are also required to identify any environmental considerations that
need to be taken into account during construction, such as the presence of hazardous materials.
You must determine the specific materials and finishes that will be used in the project, as well as
any relevant standards of work or tolerances that need to be met and determine the specific
processes and procedures that will be followed in order to ensure that the project is completed
