3. A boatman can take the same time to row6.5km downstream and 3.5km upstream. His speed in still water
2.5 km/hr. The speed of the stream is.
A. 0.75 km/hr
B. 2.5 km/hr
C. 1.5km/hr
D. 7.5km/hr
Ans - A
Given that the speed in still water = 2.5 km/hr
Let the speed of the stream be ‘x; km/hr
speed in upstream = (2.5 – x)km/hr
Then time taken to cover 6.5 km downstream = 6.5 / (2.5+x)
Then time taken to cover 3.5 km upstream = 3.5 / (2.5 – x)
6.5 / (2.5 + x) = 3.5 / (2.5 – x)
6.5 (2.5 – x) = 3.5 (2.5 + x)
16.25 – 6.5x = 8.75 + 3.5x
10 x = 7.5
x = 0.75 km/hr
The speed of the stream is 0.75 km/h
4. The average of nine numbers is 20.6. The average of three of them is 26.1, while the average of another
three of these number is 15.2. What is the average of the remaining three numbers?
A. 21
B. 20.5
C. 21.5
D. 35.75
Ans - (b) Total sum of the 9 numbers
= 9 × 20.6 = 185.4
sum of 3 numbers
= 3 × 26.1 = 78.3
sum of other 3 numbers
= 3 × 15.2 = 45.6
Then, sum of remaining 3 numbers
= 185.4 – (78.3 + 45.6) = 61.5
Average of remaining 3 numbers
61.5/3 = 20.5.
5. If 80% of a number added to 360 gives the number itself then the number is
A. 1200
B. 2000
C. 1600

6. A is twice as efficient at B, who is thrice as efficient as C. If C alone can complete the task in 30 days, then
the how many days can they together complete the task?
A. 3
B. 4
C. 5
D. 6
Ans - (a) Ratio of efficiencies of A, B and C =
A:B:C
6:3:1
Now, C can alone complete the work in 30 days.
Then, total work = 30 × 1 = 30 units.
Total time taken by A, B and C working
together = 30 / 10 = 3 days.
7. The ages of two sisters differ by 32 years. 12 years ago, the elder one was 7 times as old as the younger
one. What are their present ages of the elder person
A. 46.9

C. 42.7
D. 45.4
Ans - B
Let's take the present age of the elder person = x
and the present age of the younger person = x – 32
(x – 12) = 7*(x-32-12)
=> x – 12 = 7x – 308
=> 6x = 296
=> x = 49years 3months
8. In a two–digit number, the digit at the unit’s place is 1 less than twice the digit at the ten’s place. If the
digits at unit’s and ten’s place are interchanged, the difference between the new and the original number is
less than the original number by 20. The original number is
A. 47
B. 59
C. 35
D. 23
Ans - A
Ten’s digit = x
Unit’s digit = 2x – 1
Original number = 10x + (2x – 1) = 12x – 1
New number = 10 (2x – 1) + x
= 20x – 10 + x = 21x – 10
(21x – 10) – (12x + 1) = 12x – 1 – 20
9x – 9 = 12x – 21
3x = 12 ⇒ x = 4
Original number = 12x – 1 = 12 × 4 – 1 = 47

mixture should be replaced with pure milk so that in the final mixture, ratio of milk to water is 7 : 3?
A. 22 l
B. 20 l
C. 15 l
D. 17 l
Ans - C
Solution:
In 60 l of mixture, milk = 3/5 * 60 = 36 l, so water = 24 l
Let x litres of mixture is replaced
So
Remaining Milk after replacement is = 36 – (3/5)*x + x = 36 + 2x/5
So (36 + 2x/5)/60 = 7/10
Solve, x = 15 l
10. The area of a rectangular field is 25000 m2 and the ratio of its length and breadth is 5 : 2. Find the cost of
the wire required to fence around it at the rate of ` 25/m.
A. 17500
B. 18000
C. 18225
D. 15875
Ans - (a) Let the length and breadth of the
rectangular field be 5x and 2x respectively.
Then, 5x × 2x = 25000
⇒ x2= 2500 ⇒ x = 50 m.
l = 5x = 250 m and breadth = 2x = 100 m.
Now, perimeter of the rectangle
= 2 (l + b) = 2 (350) m = 700 m.
The cost of fencing at the rate ` 25/m
= 25 × 700 = 17500.

B. 22
C. 20.5
D. 25
Ans - (b) The sum of weights of A, B and C
= 48 × 3 = 144 kg.
The sum of weights of A and B
= 42.5 × 2 = 85 kg.
And, the sum of the weights of B and C
= 40.5 × 2 = 81 kg.
The weight of B
= (A + B) + (B + C) – (A + B + C)
= 85 + 81 – 144 = 22 kg.
