ACTIVITY 1
RAINBOW IN BUBBLES
QUESTIONS:
1. Before the bubbles popped, I saw the colors present at its surface which are different colors of
the color spectrum - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.
2. There are 7 colors present.
3. The surface of bubbles is so colorful because it acts as the prism that refracts and disperses
white light into separated colors.
4. These colors came from white light.
5. Some of the light goes into the thin layer of soap and some of it is reflected as it passes through
the surface of the bubble that acts as a prism.

TRY YOUR UNDERSTADING

1. Both blue and green shirt would appear black and won’t be visible in a room where lights are off
and the room is in total darkness.
2. It would appear red. Since the color red is the only color that was not absorbed in the
pigmented paper, thus it is reflected.
3. a. Red orange
b. Blue green

ACTIVITY 2
SCREEN THE UV OUT
QUESTIONS:
1. The part where there is no protection has greater possibility to get a skin disease like skin
cancer. While the other part where you apply sunscreen/sunblock has lower possibility to get
tanned or get skin disease because sunscreen/sunblock protects you from UV rays. The other
part where you put black construction has no possibility to get a disease because the black
construction paper absorbs the radiation. In short, Dark colors absorb light, while light colors
bounce it away.
2. This indicates that too much exposure to UV rays is dangerous because UV is highly
penetrating, one might be at risk of skin damage and skin cancer.
3. I realize that applying sunscreens can protect me from UV rays where I have the lower
possibility to get tanned or get skin disease. Also, too exposure to UV rays is linked to a number
of harmful health conditions, such as skin cancer, premature aging of the skin, cataracts and
eye disorders and immune system damage.

QUESTIONS:
1. Ultraviolet radiation causes skin damage.
2. Visible light not only provides photosynthesis in plants, it is also involved in the
regulation of many reactions in the animal world.
3. UV radiation is widely used in industrial processes and in medical and dental practices for a
variety of purposes, such as killing bacteria, creating fluorescent effects, curing inks and resins,
phototherapy and suntanning.
4. Gamma rays are widely used in medicine and specifically in the area of oncology to treat
malignant and cancerous tumors during a process called gamma knife surgery.
5. X-ray machines are used to screen carry-on items and checked luggage in the airport to prevent
dangerous goods from entering aircraft and to ensure that all flights reach their destinations
safely.

III. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED?

POST ASSESSMENT
I.
1. a. Light is also used in optical fibers where it is vital in the field of medicine.
b. Light is also used by plants during photosynthesis.
2. Uses of X-rays includes, identify manufacturing defect in tires, diamonds and other materials,
check flaws in welding joints, analyze the structure of an alloy, detect cracks in structures, used
in radiography and fluoroscopy, airport security scanner. While gamma rays are used to treat
malignant tumors in radiotherapy, act as surgical knifes, and sterilize medical tools. It is a
diagnostic tool, detect defects in metal castings and to find weak spots in welded structures,
check airport luggage and cargo, and used to preserve food.
3. Gamma radiation is used in medical treatment because it can easily pass through the packaging
of medical equipment and kill living tissue such as viruses and bacteria.
4. Some parts of the EM spectrum are dangerous to living cells because in general, the shorter the
wavelength, the greater the danger to living things. Although longer wavelengths also have their
hazards, very short wavelengths, such as X-rays and gamma rays, can easily damage living tissue.
5. Everything has radiation. Too much radiation can bring certain types of cancers and added heat
resulting to global warming. So, one of the most obvious yet helpful solution is to avoid using
electrical and technological devices too much especially when it's not that need like cellphones,
microwaves, x-ray examinations, radio stations, GPS because everything that's too much causes
damage that much.
