HEROISM

ANDRES BONIFACIO
1. Who did the group choose and why?

Upon sharing ideas within the group we’ve decided that Andres Bonifacio should be National Hero. Many
Filipinos and scholars consider Andres Bonifacio, the founder of the Katipunan and a pivotal player in the
Philippine Revolution against Spanish colonial power, to be a national hero.

- In order to free the Philippines from Spanish control, Bonifacio was instrumental in the founding of the
Kataastaasan Kagalanggalangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan (KKK), also known as just Katipunan.
His organizational abilities and leadership qualities were crucial in inspiring Filipinos from diverse
- In the face of colonial persecution, Bonifacio showed an unflinching commitment to the cause of Philippine
independence and a willingness to employ force. By setting an exemplary example and organizing the
populace against Spanish oppression, he motivated Filipinos to defend their rights and liberties.
- The essence of Filipino nationalism and patriotism is embodied by Bonifacio. His commitment to the
Filipino cause and his readiness to give his life in defense of his nation serve as potent reminders of the fight
for independence and sovereignty that characterizes the Filipino people.

3. Rizal is an impressive guy. But consider other countries' national
heroes. How many are poets or writers instead of military or
political leaders? (examples: Napoleon, Churchill, Frederick the
Great, etc., -all military/political). Would you still consider Rizal,
our National hero? Why?
Yes, José Rizal's standing as the national hero of the Philippines is still significant and
valid for a number of reasons, even though many national heroes of other nations are
military or political figures. Rizal was a prominent scholar who had a big influence on
Filipino identity and consciousness. In his books "Noli Me Tangere" and "El
Filibusterismo," he advocated for social change while criticizing colonialism. His
revolutionary support of education and nonviolent reform as means of social
advancement motivated future generations to oppose colonial oppression and work
toward independence. The martyrdom and life of Rizal represent Filipino
independence and opposition to foreign dominance, exemplifying selflessness and
patriotism. Because of his legacy, which still inspires people to fight for justice,
equality, and dignity, education, ethics, and nation-building are still important topics
in today's conflicts.
4.) (If Rizal was chosen/nominated by the
group) Give reasons to prove why we should
consider Rizal as our National hero.

He fought for freedom in a subtle yet efficient way. He expressed his passion
for the Philippines via books, essays, and articles rather than through
violence or animosity. For his time, he was a truly exceptional person.
José Rizal's leadership abilities, global legacy, advocacy for reform and
enlightenment, intellectual accomplishments, and personification of Filipino
nationalism all provide a strong case for his designation as the Philippines'
national hero. He is still regarded as a pivotal figure in Philippine history and
an inspiration to succeeding generations of Filipinos aiming for improved
prospects.
