SCIENCE -1st Quarter Weeks 1-3 PERFORMANCE TASK

(Choose only 1 task to perform)


Performance Task Option 1
MY BODY, THE INSIDE STORY! (50 points)
Create an instructional video recording yourself discussing the respiratory system:
-Flow of air (oxygen) as you inhale from your nose/mouth to the alveoli and as you exhale from alveoli
back to the nose/mouth releasing the air carbon dioxide.
-Discuss the organs of respiratory system and its functions.
Guidelines and suggestions:
1. Video must be at least 2-5 minutes
2. Use only English language.
3. You can use colored flashcards and write the organs of respiratory
system to give emphasis of your discussion.
4. You can draw the parts of respiratory system to discuss on the video.

Performance Task Option 2


LUNG MODEL! (40 points)
Create a lung model using the following materials
-1 liter empty plastic bottle -2 sturdy straw Submit your task in the school or
-3 balloons (1 big, 2 small) -1 pair of scissors thru picture and send to Jaime
-5 rubber bands Crispino messenger acct.
Procedure
1. Using your scissor, cut the bottom out of 1.5-liter plastic bottle.
2. Using two holes that are apart from each other in the cap of the plastic bottle. Make sure that the hole is
just big enough for a straw to fit through.
3. Stick the two straws through the hole of the bottle cap.
4. Place the balloons on the end of each straw and secure them with rubber bands.
5. Stick the balloon ends of the straws through the bottle opening and screw the lid on tightly.
6. Cut the upper part of the larger balloon and stretch it out the larger balloon and place it over the open
bottom of the bottle. Secure it with a rubber band as tightly as possible.

Observe what happens when you pull the balloon. The big balloon is your
diaphragm and the two small balloons inside the bottle are your lungs.

Keep My Heart and Lungs Healthy! (50 points)

Create a poster on how to keep your respiratory and circulatory system healthy. Use 1/8 size illustration board with
your output. For creativity, you can use crayons, acrylic paints, oil paste or any coloring materials. See the picture below
as an example.
You may include the following points:
1. Healthy and unhealthy lifestyle that affects circulatory and respiratory system.
2. Common diseases of circulatory and respiratory system.
3. Ways to keep the circulatory and respiratory system healthy
