Installation
What is Service Entrance?

The service entrance installation is the

wiring circuit that brings electrical energy
from the supply system(utility company) to
the wiring system it
serves(building’s/residential’s electrical
system).
Service Drop

(Metering Equipment)

(Service Protective Device)

Parts of Service Entrance:

1. Service drop-the point of connection

between the utility pole of Meralco and
the premises wiring system. The service
drop consists of a service head, an
insulating block with holes and a body
made of steel.
Parts of Service Entrance:

2. Service conductors-the service wires,
usually expressed in square millimeters
for stranded and millimeter diameter
for solid conductors. The minimum size
of conductors that can be used for
service entrance installation in a single-
family dwelling should not be smaller
GROUND than 8m㎡ (3.2 mm diameter)
Parts of Service Entrance:

3. Service meter-electrical device used to measure

the power of electricity in kilowatts consumed in a
particular period. The service meter consists of a
voltage coil that is connected parallel with the load
and the current coil, which is in turn connected in
series with the load.

Parts of Service Entrance:

4. Service equipment-electrical device

used as a means of disconnecting the
entire wiring system of the building. Circuit
breakers and safety switches are
considered as service equipment.

NEMA 3R PANEL BOARD & CIRCUIT BREAKERS

CIRCUIT BREAKER TO BE USED:
60A for NEMA 3R:SAME WITH MAIN CB
60A: MAIN CB
15A: LIGHTING FIXTURES & SWITCHES
20A: OUTLET
30A: SPO(AC/REF)
Parts of Service Entrance:
NEMA 3R: The National Electrical Manufacturers
Association (NEMA) defines standards used for
various grades of electrical enclosures typically used
in industrial applications. Weather-resistant. Protects
against falling dirt, against weather hazards such as
rain, hail and snow, and is undamaged by the
formation of ice. Used outdoors on ship docks, in
construction work, and in tunnels and subways.
PEC Requirement
1. The point of attachment of conductors to a
building or structures should not be less than
3,100mm/10 FEET above finished grade.
2. Service conductors should not be smaller than
8mm² in a single-family dwelling
3. Services entrance conductors should be installed
using rigid steel conduit.
PEC Requirement
4. Service conductors and their supports should
have sufficient strength and stability to ensure
the maintenance of adequate clearance.
5. Used an automatic trip circuit breaker
6. The insulation of conductors should be
protected from moisture and physical damage
PEC Requirement
7. Warning signs should be posted(e.g.
“High Voltage’’)
8. Standard height of a kilowatt-hour
meter when it s connected in the circuit
should be five to six feet above grade.
