2. PURPOSE

2.1 The Purpose of this document is to explain the measurement of the Bore and Counter Bore
Diameter.

3. PERSONS AFFECTED

3.1 This document is applicable to all:

3.1.1 All Tenaris Premium Connections Manufacturing Services Personnel.
3.1.2 Facilities licensed to thread TenarisHydril connections.

4. REFERENCES

4.1 Not Applicable.

5. DEFINITIONS AND ABBREVIATIONS

5.1 Definitons and Abbreviations are defined in the most current revision of TenarisHydril document
TSH-GP-00.0001.

5.2 Bore Diameter: is the diameter of the turned Pin ID.

The End Bore ensures that a consistent pin nose thickness is maintained. The pin bore diameter
inspection is only required when the bore diameter is machined. In some cases black areas in the
bore area are allowed; please refer to the appropriate drawing and/or inspection report for details.

6. RESPONSIBILITIES

6.1 Responsibilities are defined in the most current revision of TenarisHydril document
TSH-GP-00.0002.

7. PERSONNEL QUALIFICATION

7.1 Personnel qualification is defined in the most current revision of TenarisHydril document
TSH-GP-00.0003.

8. PROCEDURES

8.1 Inspection
The measurement of the pin end bore / counter bore diameter is made by placing a caliper or ID
micrometer, within the turned surface of the bore, making sure that the two contact anvils touch
the machined surface of the bore. One anvil is held stationary while the other is rotated through a
small arc while slightly expanding the caliper or ID micrometer until the greatest distance is
found. Determine the high and low readings around the circumference of the bore and average
them to obtain a Bore Diameter Value.

Example of Chamfer Diameter:

Set up MRP or simular gage with swivel pivot shoes or ball points, use calibrated measuring
instrutment set “A” dimension as listed on the inspection report (IR). Set “B” dimension using a
calibrated instrutment to nominal dimension listed on the IR. Insert MRP gage into ID with block wear
pads against face of part and rotate 180 degrees.

8.2 Acceptance / Rejection Criteria

Pin End Bore and chamfer diameter is acceptable if the average of two measurements is within
the tolerance defined in IR.
For wedge threads bore and chamfer diameters the maximum amount of variations between the
two measurements shall be in accordance with TSH-IP-53.0055 for the measured feature.

8.3 Records
The result of these inspections shall be recorded on the IR.
