2. PURPOSE

2.1 The Purpose of this document is to explain the measurement of the Pin Thread Flank Length.
This measurement is performed by use of a TenarisHydril gage pin. The product feature shall be
inspected using one of the available methods specified on the Inspection Report, although the
inspection method selected shall be used for the complete order.

3. PERSONS AFFECTED

3.1 This document is applicable to all:

3.1.1 All Tenaris Premium Connections Manufacturing Services Personnel.
3.1.2 Facilities licensed to thread TenarisHydril connections.

4. REFERENCES

4.1 Not Applicable.

5. DEFINITIONS AND ABBREVIATIONS

5.1 Definitions and Abbreviations are defined in the most current revision of TenarisHydril document
TSH-GP-00.0001.

6. RESPONSIBILITIES

6.1 Responsibilities are defined in the most current revision of TenarisHydril document
TSH-GP-00.0002.

7. PERSONNEL QUALIFICATION

7.1 Personnel qualification is defined in the most current revision of TenarisHydril document
TSH-GP-00.0003.

8. PROCEDURES

8.1 Inspection:

8.1.1 TenarisHydril proprietary Gage Pin – each licensed facility will be provide either class A or
class B gauge pins. Verify the class of gauge pins issued, if class “A” gauge pins have
been provided a calibration comparison check is required see TSH-IP-53.0075. If class “B”
gauge pins have been provided verify calibration is current prior to use.

Production gage pin are coated on the stem with a gold coloring and designated with a
unique serial number beginning with the letter “W” this gage pin shall be used to locate
the Basic Thread Width. A calibrated measuring instrument measuring from face of pin
thread to the OD of gage pin provides the Thread Flank Length or also sometimes
described as End of Part.

8.1.2 Measurement by Gage Pin

A gage pin is used to establish the location of the Basic Thread Width datum --A-- Pin
connection. The dash number associated with the gage pin part number indicates the
specific thread profile, this thread profile identification is located on the licencee product
drawing. The gage pin is threaded into the groove of the thread until it is securely seated
between the two flanks and the root of the thread. Twisting the gage pin as it makes up
until the pin will not rock back and forth between the stab and load flanks longintidually to
the connection center line, will help position it correctly. Although, slight rocking of the pin
from side to side circumferentially between the thread flanks can be anticipated at this
position.

Measure the distance from the face of the pin thread to the OD of the gage pin. Mark the
thread with a standard line at the point of lock up. This line indicates the plane of datum –
A—and is required in order to perform subsequent inspection operations. When hardened
and ground diameter or seal gages will be used, transfer the mark to the pin OD.

8.1.3 Measurement by Thread Ring Flank Gage

This gage is not available in all TenarisHydril gage sets, although if not supplier use the
gage pin inspection referenced above. A thread flank ring gage is used to establish the
location of the basic thread width datum -A- pin connection. Screw the ring gage onto the
connection until it makes up securely on the thread flanks. Measure the standoff through
the hole from the plate attached to the face of the gage to the end of the pin. Transfer the
standoff line from the gage to the pin. This line indicates the plane of datum –A- and is
required in order to perform subsequent inspection operations.

Note: In some cases the gauging method on the inspection report contains no numerical data for
a specified method. For these cases the associated gauging method may be available for use,
however, formal written authorization shall be sent to TenarisHydril for approval.

8.2 Acceptance / Rejection criteria

Thread Flank Length / End of part is acceptable if the measured value is within the limits
prescribed on the IR

8.3 Records

The result of these inspections shall be recorded on the IR.
