Definition of Terms and Acronyms
Crime control refers to a set of strategies, policies, and actions undertaken by law
enforcement agencies and the criminal justice system to prevent, deter, and reduce
criminal activities within a society or community. The primary objective of crime
control is to maintain public safety and order by minimizing and managing criminal
behavior. This concept emphasizes the importance of detecting, apprehending, and
punishing individuals who engage in illegal activities to discourage others from doing
the same.
Crime prevention policies and programs are a set of government and community
initiatives, strategies, and actions designed to reduce the occurrence of criminal
activities, enhance public safety, and minimize the risk factors that contribute to
criminal behavior. These policies and programs are aimed at preventing crime from
happening in the first place or intervening early to address the root causes of criminal
conduct. They play a crucial role in maintaining law and order within a society and
promoting the well-being of its residents.
