2. PURPOSE
2.1 The purpose of this document is to explain how the measurement of the Seal Daimeter is
performed using MRP gages for material sizes listed in this document .

7.1 Personnel qualification is defined in the most current revision of TenarisHydril document
TSH-GP-00.0003.
8. PROCEDURES
8.1 These instructions shall be used in conjuction with the gaging requirements specified or implied
by the by the connecting procedure, inspection report, and licensee drawing. Product seals shall
be inspected using the gaging method contained within this document. The nominal dimensional
value and tolerance for the seal geometry is located in Annex 9 of this document.
8.2 Measurement of both pin and box seals shall be accomplished by means of a MRP gage set up
to the requirements on the pages that follow. The set standards referenced provides a nominal
seal replication that will be used as a zero setting. Deviations from nominal in the EOP (Mic to
PIN) value will alter the nominal seal diameter value, refer to Annex 9 for the expected values.
8.3 The MRP seal gage shall replace the Primary Seal harden ground Gage. Seal Diameter shall
replace Seal Gauge length and all other requirements, i.e.: seal finsh, inspection frequency and
free state variation shall apply except as follows: Primary seal bluing IAW TSH-IP-00.0074 does
not apply, primary seal width requirement also does not apply.

8.4 Inspection:
Measurment of both pin and box seals shall be accomplished by means of a MRP Gage set up to
the requirements on the pages that follow. The set standards referenced provide a nominal seal
replication that willl be used as a zero setting. Deviations from nominal in the EOP (mic to pin)
value will alter the nominal seal diameter value, refer to matrix for the expected values.
Measure and note the Mic to Pin value. Apply the MRP Seal gage to the product, sweep the seal
360° to determined the average diameter. Refer to the matrix in Annex 9.0 – find the the Mic to
Pin value obtained from part in the “Actual EOP” column, the new nominal seal diameter and
tolerance will be in the adjacent columns.

Set-up MRP Gage as shown using a dial indicator as per the connection procedure.
Adjust Leg length (contact center line) to .638” ± .015” 2 places. Adjust contact diametrical
spacing using the provided pin seal set master (TE2704288). Final setting should have the
revolution counter of the indicator on “1” and the main indicator arm set on zero.

With MRP gage set to pin set master, apply the MRP gage to the product pin. The
required pin seal diameter value is based on the EOP value. See matrix Annex 9 for the
nominal pin seal diameter value and tolerance. Sweep the entire seal 360° with the MRP
gage to obtain the average diameter.
Set-up MRP gage as shown using a dial indicator as per the connection procedure, adjust
leg length (contact to center line) to 5.184” ± .015” 2 places. Adjust contact diametrical
spacing using the provided box seal set master (TE2704289).

Final setting should have the revolution counter of the indicator on “1” and the main
indicator arm set on zero.
With MRP gage set to box set master apply the MRP gage to the product box. The
required box seal diameter value is based on the EOP value. See matrix Annex 9 for the
nominal box seal diameter value and tolerance. Sweep the entire box seal 360° with the
MRP gage to obtain the average diameter.

Set-up MRP Gage as shown using a dial indicator as per the connection procedure .
Adjust Leg length (contact center line) to .625” ± .015” 2 places. Adjust contact diametrical
spacing using the provided pin seal set master (TE2704326). Final setting should have the
revolution counter of the indicator on “1” and the main indicator arm set on zero.
With MRP gage set to pin set master s referenced above. Apply the MRP gage to the
product pin. The required pin seal diameter value is based on the EOP value. See matrix
in Annex 9 for the nominal pin seal diameter value and tolerance. Sweep the entire seal
360° with the MRP gage to obtain the average diameter.

spacing using the provided box seal set master (TE2704327).
Final setting should have the revolution counter of the indicator on “1” and the main indicator arm
set on zero.

With MRP gage set to box set master apply the MRP gage to the product box. The required box
seal diameter value is based on the EOP value. See matrix in Annex 9 for the nominal box seal
diameter value and tolerance. Sweep the entire box seal 360° with the MRP gage to obtain the
average diameter.
8.5.1 Measure Pin and Box Seal diameter using MRP Gages, nominal seal diameter is
determined by the EOP. Look up actual EOP to determined required seal diameter from
Annex 9 below.
8.5.2 Quick Check Method- If EOP (end of Pin) is within ± .010 and MRP diameter gage is
within ± .003 from nominal zero- seal is acceptable and use of matrix is not required.
8.6 Records
The result of these inspections shall be recorded on the IR.
