Dear Parents and Guardians

Re: Year 11: PSHE – Friday 26th January

As part of our broad PSHE curriculum, our students are taught about a variety of different issues to
raise awareness but also to empower young people to recognise risk and learn the skills and
knowledge needed to protect themselves.

I am therefore writing to notify you that we have arranged for students to receive an interactive talk
on the topic of breast cancer from Sakoon Through Cancer. The talk will focus on the benefits of
regular self-examination and screening. Students will learn through stories from survivors about
symptoms and the benefits of detecting lumps early. Breast cancer can affect both men and women,
hence we feel it is important to make this a topic that our students feel comfortable and confident
talking about.

Sakoon Through Cancer are a local charity who believe that everyone should be able to access the
most appropriate form of support if they find themselves battling breast cancer. The charity work to
provide empathy, support and trust for breast cancer patients and specifically for people of South
Asian backgrounds.

The talk will take place on Friday 26th January from 2:30pm until 3:30pm. Students will have the
opportunity to ask questions at the end of the presentation and a discussion with tutors will follow in a
registration activity the following week.

To show our appreciation for Sakoon Through Cancer and the work they do, in addition to delivering
this session to our students, we would like to request a minimum donation of £1 from every student.
This donation should be given to your daughter’s form tutor in the week leading up to the event.

I am sure you will agree that this cause is a worthwhile cause and the information and support given
by the charity is invaluable.
