MAINTENANCE MANUAL 71-00-00 - POWER PLANT - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

Manual Part No.30J1272 Rev. 59.0 - 06/NOV/23

71-00-00
12. DCU Initialization
A. Procedure

CAUTION: IF THE DCU IS BEING REFITTED, MAKE SURE THAT THE DCU IS INSTALLED ON ITS ORIGINAL
ENGINE. THE DCU CONTAINS THE MASTER DATA FOR THAT ENGINE. DO NOT SWITCH THE DCU
WITH ONES FROM OTHER ENGINES.

NOTE: 1. The DCU initialization procedure should only be used when a replacement DCU is being fitted or when the DCU data
is suspected of being corrupted.
NOTE: 2. Both the DCU and the EEC contain engine data, including the fault codes. The DCU data is the master data and
during the engine start, the EEC will compare it's engine data to the DCU data, and if different, writes the DCU data
to the EEC.
NOTE: 3. Check the engine log book for the applicable engine data, prior to obtaining the electronic data.
NOTE: 4. Use a desktop or laptop computer with Windows 2000 or XP, Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or above, screen
resolution 1024 X 768 or higher, 256 colors or higher and Adobe Acrobat Reader. The computer must have a RS232
COM port running or a USB serial port. Install the P&WC Diagnostic Prognostic Health Management (DPHM) system
on the computer and make sure GBStm transfer module and GBSLite diagnostic module are available.
(1) Get a copy of the “PW545A_DUMMY.ini” initialization file from the P&WC Customer First Centre (CFirst@pwc.ca).

CAUTION: DO NOT MODIFY THE FILE.

(a) Save the file anywhere on the PC.
NOTE: 1. If DCUs were swapped during troubleshooting, make sure the serviceable DCU is on the
correct engine and install a new or replacement DCU on the corresponding engine.
NOTE: 2. If you initialize a DCU, it will clear some identification information and engine data in the DCU
memory.

(2) Connect the computer to the ground support connector on the pedestal (Ref. 77-40-01, DATA COLLECTION UNIT
(DCU) - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES).
(3) Set the EEC to Transparent Mode (Ref. 77-40-01, DATA COLLECTION UNIT (DCU) - MAINTENANCE
PRACTICES).
(4) Start the GBSLite program by selecting the desktop icon.
(a) Select PW545A from the top down engine model selection menu.
(b) Select the appropriate DCU part number.
(c) Select “Proceed” next to “Start DCU program”.
(d) Verify that “Thru_EEC” option is selected and baud rate is set to 38400.
(e) In “Options” menu, select “Upload/Change Parameters”.
NOTE: The values that are in the replacement DCU will show on the screen in the CURRENT VALUE
column (Ref. Fig. 514). These values may or may not be blank.

(5) Select the “Init” button.

(a) Select and open the previously saved PW545A_DUMMY.ini file.
NOTE: The values in the PW545A_DUMMY.ini initialization file will populate the NEW VALUE column with
default values. The NEW VALUE fields in white can be modified manually by the operator prior to
being written to the DCU.
(b) Enter appropriate values for “Engine S/N”, “Engine Pos”, “AC S/N” and “AC Tail Num” parameters.
(c) Enter appropriate values for Components Serial Number parameter.

(6) Select the “Write” button to effectively modify the parameters in the DCU.
NOTE: The values in the CURRENT VALUE column will refresh by reading back the data from the DCU, which will let
the user verify all data is correct.
(a) Select the “Close” button.

(7) Make a record of the maintenance action in the engine log

book.
