INTERNSHIP STUDY AT G.K DIARY

INTRODUCTION

G.K Dairy was started in the year 1973 by three brothers namely Mr.G.Kannan,
Mr.G.Gunasekaran and Mr.G.Shankar in the Kurichy village near Kumbakonam, Thanjavur DT.
Earlier we started our business in small scale by procuring milk from farmers and supply the raw
milk through milk can in the surrounding villages. Gradually we had extended our supplying
areas in the Kumbakonam and Mayiladuthurai town. By seeing the quality of our product and
our valuable service at right time, demand for our milk got increased steadily in all surrounding
areas of Kumabakonam and mayiladuthurai town. Afterwards we planned to do business in next
level.

In the year 1999, we established milk dairy plant and used various modern equipments
and technology for processing…

The production of milk on dairy farms and the processing of milk and milk products at
dairy plants make up the dairy industry. Along with producing many kinds of milk, the industry
makes butter, cheese, yogurt, and ice cream.

“In the year 2001, we established a state-of-the-art dairy plant for the processing of milk.
The next step was to reach our consumers through milk packets; this led to the birth of the Tamil
Milk brand. Other dairy products like curd, butter, and ghee followed in due course,” says G
Kannan, Founder & Managing Director, G K Dairy.

Hailing from an agrarian family, he always dreamt of being a successful entrepreneur in

the field he was exposed to growing up. Starting off small, but working hard, Kannan and his
two brothers established a milk business by the name of G K Paal Pannai in 1973. Their small-
scale business ran on a simple methodology: procure fresh cow milk from farmers in nearby
areas and supply the same in milk cans to the surrounding villages. As time wore on and the
INTERNSHIP STUDY AT G.K DIARY

demand for their milk rose, the company extended its supply to the towns of
Kumbakonam and Mayiladuthurai.

Speaking of their early days, K Thiyagarajan, Executive Director, G K Dairy, says, “At
the inception, we used to supply milk to our customers twice every day, with them expecting the
delivery at their doorstep first thing in the morning. Our suppliers were urged to adhere to
customer expectations as far as possible. The advent of refrigeration in every house has changed
things now.”

Over the last decade and a half, the dairy sector has undergone many changes, moving
the market towards greater industrialization. Up until the early 90s, dairy products consisted
primarily of milk, curd, butter, and ghee. There is a paradigm shift being witnessed in urban and
rural areas today. The consumption of processed milk products has increased significantly.

The industry processes raw milk into an array of products such as butter, cheese, cream,
yogurt, condensed milk, dried milk, ice cream, etc, and produces various by-products including
buttermilk, whey, ghee, and skimmed milk. When they were starting out, spoilage during the
course of marketing the milk to other districts was a big challenge. This led to the utilization of a
Puff insulated vehicle for milk transportation and the training of all dealers

 FUNCTION ASSIGNED

He purpose of a job function in a job posting is to give a complete description of the

primary responsibilities the employee will perform. We define “job function” as a detailed
list of an employee’s actions and duties as part of their role. Job functions create clarity and
understanding of a position.

A well-written job function will help the best candidates for a job to apply. This helps
candidates know if the job function fits their skill set and preferences.

So what are job functions? Job functions might vary from position to position, but a
list of job function examples might read:

o Supervise and manage department team

o Provide support and training to team members

o Develop and implement protocols for increased team efficiency

o Maintain a working document of best practices

o Report to directors and executive staff

INTERNSHIP STUDY AT G.K DIARY

A job function list should be clear and concise. Lists might also be organized into job
function categories for better readability if the position has multiple work functions.
INTERNSHIP STUDY AT G.K DIARY

 PLACEMENT OF THE CANDIDATE

When the candidate is selected for a particular post and when he reports to duty, the
organization has to place him or her in the job for which he or she is selected which is being
done through placement. Placement is the act of offering the job to a finally selected candidate. It
is the act of finally assigning the rank and responsibility to an employee, identifying him with a
particular job.

In the words of Pigors and Myers, “Placement is the determination of the job to which an
accepted candidate is to be assigned and his assignment to that job. It is a matching of what the
supervisor has reason to think he can do with the job demands. It is a matching of what he
imposes in strain, working conditions and what he offers in the form of pay roll, companionship
with others, promotional possibilities etc.”

A well placed employee will be an asset to the organization. Proper placement makes the
employee happy and reduces absenteeism and labour turnover. Proper placement increases
morale and efficiency of the employees and builds a good relation with the employer.

Increased production, improved quality of the product, regularity in work and attendance
indicate proper placement of an employee. It should be noted that, supervisor or an executive
should always keep a watch on newly recruited employee to ensure whether an employee is
properly placed or mis-placed.
INTERNSHIP STUDY AT G.K DIARY

If any symptom of misplacement is observed, action should be taken for proper

placement or necessary training programme should be arranged to make the employee fit for the
job. For this reason, initial appointment will be a “Probationary period” which is called “trial
period” for the newly recruited employees. On successful completion of the probationary period,
generally, employee will be regularized on permanent basis.
INTERNSHIP STUDY AT G.K DIARY

 OBSERVATION OF THE TRAINING

The TOR is used to document training and evaluation of instructor and non-instructor
personnel. This may occur while evaluating multiple tasks or training iterations occurring
consecutively i.e. multiple tasks, role-plays or lessons being conducted concurrently. The TOR is
also a tool used to monitor training, ensuring course standards and training activities are
accomplished in accordance with applicable instructions and course documents. A TOR may be
used to document training provided by a training manager, supervisor, trainer, or any other
monitor/evaluator when observing or evaluating training tasks and placed in the individual’s OJT
folder. Supervisors will be responsible to document monthly training progress for each trainee
using a TOR. Areas to include in a TOR

o Trainee observed, training phase, and date

o Training window: This will identify the start and finish dates of the
evaluation. Include actual hours engaged in training.
INTERNSHIP STUDY AT G.K DIARY

o Training observed: Identify the specific training task(s) accomplished by the

trainee, i.e. lessons, ARL’s/role-plays, other specific training actions or
iterations.

o Summary of progress: The first sentence will state whether the trainee’s
progress has been satisfactory or unsatisfactory. When documenting the
summary of progress, the evaluator will describe how effectively the trainee
is progressing within their training plan.
INTERNSHIP STUDY AT G.K DIARY

 OFFICE ENVIRONMENT

Milk production takes place all around the world. Global demand for dairy
continues to increase in large part due to population growth, rising incomes,
urbanization and westernization of diets in countries such as China and India.
With this increasing demand for dairy, there is growing pressure on natural
resources, including freshwater and soil. WWF works with dairy farmers, industry
groups, and other stakeholders in various countries to conserve and protect natural
resources and habitat.

Millions of farmers worldwide tend approximately 270 million dairy cows

to produce milk. Milk production impacts the environment in various ways, and
the scale of these impacts depends on the practices of the dairy farmers and feed
growers.

Dairy cows and their manure produce greenhouse gas emissions which
contribute to climate change. Poor handling of manure and fertilizers can degrade
local water resources. And unsustainable dairy farming and feed production can
lead to the loss of ecologically important areas, such as prairies, wetlands, and
forests.

 QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS

The use of qualitative research in dairy science has increased considerably

in recent years, providing the opportunity to inform research and practice. This
review aims to enhance the accessibility of qualitative research among a range of
audiences and specifically:

(1) Provide an overview of what qualitative research is and the value it can
bring to scientific inquiries in the dairy context,

(2) illustrate the emergence of qualitative dairy science research in the

past 15 to 20 years,

(3) outline the role of the researcher and key philosophical assumptions
underlying qualitative research,

(4) Describe qualitative research approaches and methods used in dairy

science research, and

(5) Highlight key aspects of qualitative inquiry used to ensure research

trustworthiness.

Qualitative approaches in dairy science enable researchers to understand

myriad topics including stakeholder relationships, decision-making, and behaviors
regarding dairy cattle management, animal welfare, and disease prevention and
control measures. Approaches that were used often for qualitative data collection
were individual interviews and focus groups, and variations of thematic analysis
were common analytical frameworks.
INTERNSHIP STUDY AT G.K DIARY

To assess public values, attitudes, and perceptions, mixed methods

questionnaires that combined quantitative data with qualitative data from open-
ended questions were used regularly. Although still used infrequently, action
research and participatory approaches have the potential to bridge the research-
implementation gap by facilitating group-based learning and on-farm changes.
Some publications described the philosophical assumptions inherent to
qualitative research, and many authors included reflexivity and positionality
statements. Although a comprehensive description of strategies to meet
trustworthiness criteria for qualitative research was uncommon, many
publications mentioned

Certain aspects of trustworthiness, such as member checking, researcher

triangulation, and the recording of reflexive notes. Qualitative research has been
used to deepen our understanding of phenomena relevant to the dairy sector and
has opened the door for a broad array of new opportunities. In addition to having
merit on its own, qualitative research can guide, inform, and expand on
quantitative research, and an understanding of the core pillars of qualitative
research can foster interdisciplinary collaborations.

 CONCLUSION

This training made the trainee gain knowledge in the field of

HR in some details from the placement field work, the trainee got
good exposure to the specialization.

Milk and milk products are not only a valued source of nutrition
and provide income and employment to a large section of Indian
population.

Several years of strategic planning and effective programme

implementation by government and public sector agencies have
ensured that India emerges as a leading producer of milk in the world.

Small-scale milk production can contribute to significantly

poverty and improving nutrition and food security: and small-scale,
capital –intensive high tech dairy farming system such s those in the
USA other developed countries. The various analyses and case studies
conducted indicate that small-scale milk production not only improves
the food security of milk-production households but also helps to
create numerous employment opportunities throughout the entire
dairy chain, i.e.for small-scale rural processors and intermediaries. As
such, dairy chain development may serve as a powerful tool for
reducing poverty and creating wealth in rural areas and as small-scale
INTERNSHIP STUDY AT G.K DIARY

milk producers incur low production costs ,if well

organized, they should be able to complete with large-scale,
Capital-intensive’hidh-tech’ dairy farming systems in
developed countries. Given the increasing ‘interconnectedness’
of global

Agriculture the ability of smallholder milk producers to

participate in the dairy market in a profitable manner depends
not only on their own compititiveness, mainly determined by
their production costs, but also on the efficiency of the dairy
chains to which they belong
