Materials:
Hayfield Bonus (DK) Approximately 5g of Chosen Main Colour
Hayfield Bonus (DK) Oddment for Contrast Colour Stripes (Optional)
Hayfield Bonus (DK) Black 0965 – Oddment for Eyes

Hi-Loft Quality Toy Stuffing


3mm Crochet Hook
Wool Needle (for sewing)

Abbreviations:
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
htr – half treble crochet
tr – treble crochet
inc – 2 stitches into next stitch
trinc – 2 treble crochets into next stitch
3dtrinc – number at front denotes the amount of double treble crochets into next stitch
sl st – slip stitch
f/o – fasten off by slip stitch in next stitch

Note:
 Unless stated work in continuous rounds marking last
stitch of each row with a stitch marker before proceeding
with the next.
 When stuffing make sure that you don’t overstuff as you
don’t want the stuffing to show through when complete.
 Fish should be filled just enough that it can be easily
squeezed when pinched firmly.

Main Body:
Using Chosen Main Colour:
Row 1: ch 2, dc 6sts into 2nd st from hook (alternatively dc 6sts into magic ring) (6)
Row 2: (dc into next st, inc) x3 (9)
Row 3: (dc into next 2sts, inc) x3 (12)
Row 4: (dc into next 5sts, inc) x2 (14)
Row 5: (dc into next 6sts, inc) x2 (16)
Row 6: (dc into next 7sts, inc) x2 (18)

PLEASE NOTE:
 If working in 1 colour only replace ch1 with a dc and don’t
sl st at end of next row.
 If working in 2 colours (Adding Stripe) finish main colour
with F/O and start next colour in st before F/O.
 If you decide to work in 2 stripes and take yarn up inside
of fish, double check that all your inc sts line up to the
ones below, otherwise your fishes will be lopsided.

1st Stripe:
Using Chosen Contrast Colour:
Row 7: ch1, dc into next 7sts, inc, dc into next 8sts, inc (20) sl st to join

Main Body Cont..:


Using Chosen Main Colour:
Row 8: (dc into next 9sts, inc) x2 (22)

Creating Fins:
Row 9: (Body: dc into next 5sts, Fin: Worked into Same St as 5th St On Body: (ch4,
3dtrinc, ch3, sl st, Body: dc into next 5sts, inc) x2 (24, plus 2 fins)

Main Body Cont..:


Row 10: (dc into next 11sts, inc) x2 (26)

2nd Stripe:
Using Chosen Contrast Colour:
Row 11: ch1, dc into next 25sts (26) sl st to join

Main Body Cont..:


Using Chosen Main Colour:
Row 12: (dc into next 12sts, inc) x2 (28)
Row 13: dc into next 27sts, sl st into last st (28)

Stuff Body.

Tail (Joining) Row:
PLEASE NOTE:
 If you want a longer tail change st to dtr or even a ttr
instead.
Row 14: WORKED THROUGH BOTH LAYERS: Body: ch1, starting at st level to base of
ch1, htr into next 6sts, Tail: (sl st, ch4 and trinc) into next st, (trinc, ch4 and sl st) into next
st, Body: htr into next 6sts (12, plus tail sts, ch1 counts as 1st st)

F/O leaving a 20cm/8” end.

Attaching Keychain:
Secure end with a couple of small sts.
Thread through to top of fish level to fin row and secure end with a couple of small sts
being careful not to distort fish.
Using 5 small back sts through base of keychain and body of fish, attach keychain to fisn.
Secure end with a couple of small sts.
Weave end through fish and cut flush to finish.

Eyes:
Using black oddment, thread end through to side of fish approximately ½ way between
nose and fins.
Working through 1st side, do 1 small back st (1 st in length). Then thread through to 2 nd
side and repeat pulling st slightly to make a small indent.
Repeat the last 2 sts until your eyes are desired size.
Weave end through fish and cut flush to finish.
