Water Bushers

1. Literature Review

1.1. Introduction.
From the past Aboriginal people in Queensland did many things to collect rain water in
the rainy season and consumed in the dry season. Some of them are,
• Rock holes
Rock holes are hollows on hard rocks that don’t leaks water so the water is
collected. Some hollows on rocks are naturally occurs and some are made
by the aboriginal people by their basic tools. They used another method that
they lit fire on a rock and instantly cooled them to cut and make holes on
huge rocks. The hollows that collected with water are covered with tree
leaves and branches to save water from wild animals and reduce
evaporation.

• Tree roots
Aboriginal people stored water inside roots in a plant called “Mallee
eucalypts” that can store water inside the roots and the dig the roots and
consumed those in the dry season

• Impoundments
Constructing dams using clay to store water is a famous method among
aboriginal people and some aboriginal communities still using this method.

• Soaks
Normally, hollows in freely permeable sediments (which enable water to
easily soak in) will allow water to seep in. Water can be obtained by drilling
holes into these sediments. Most dry river beds and depressions have soaks.

At present people using many methods to harvest rain water, storing and distribution using
many newer, more technological, safe and efficiency ways. Many of them are connected
with roof gutters and storing water that collected to gutters in to tanks.
Also there are some other methods that people use to harvest water from rain such as façade
panels that harvest water drops directly when falling.
There is also an invention that is floating on the sea and collect rain water before mixed in
to the sea water.
The automatic water distributor for gardening is a best example for a water distributor
system that uses modern technology in water management field.
When considering above mentioned details and many more inventions that uses artificial
intelligence to harvest, store and distribute water we can truly understand that water
harvesting is became a long journey from past to present with the improvement of modern
technology.

1.2.1. Facade rainwater harvesting system (US 2011/0017301 A1).

Inventor: Donald H. Canavan

Pub. Date: 2011-01-27
Status: Abandoned

[Appendix 1]
Fig. 1 – Front view of Facade rainwater harvesting system
Fig. 2 – Storage tank
Fig. 3 – Side view of Facade rainwater harvesting system
Fig. 4 – Façade panel
Abstract
A rainwater collection device that uses facade cladding rather than a roof. Rainwater
falling on the glass panels is directed into the vertical mullions, and from there, as
with more traditional rainwater collecting, it is directed downhill into a basement
collection system using the structural "transoms" or horizontal glazing components.
A slotted enclosed system with lift-out panels for cleaning is among the
embodiments described, as is an open system with simpler cleaning access. Both
implementations make it possible to collect rainwater before it contaminates the
ground, making filtration and reuse inside the building simpler. Additionally, it
implies that urban buildings may now reap the full benefits of rainwater collection
and drastically cut their water usage, something that was previously only possible
for structures with bigger roof areas.

Summary of the invention

This is a different rainwater harvesting system that it collects falling rain drops by a
”façade panel” when other rainwater harvesting systems collecting water that
collecting in the gutters. However, this is good for urban areas with multi story
buildings and this cannot be used by aboriginal people in North Queensland because
they don’t have that kind of tall buildings or tall walls to fix the façade panel.
