Write a letter to the Madagascan government advising them on how they

should manage the rainforest. You have three options to choose from:

Option 1: Lemur International- A Fair Trade, Organic Vanilla Farm

Option 2: The Rosewood Logging Company- Commercial Logging

Option 3: Conservation International- A Scientific Reserve

In your letter, you need to address each of the three proposed options and consider the positives and
negatives of each. Try to think about physical (e.g. disruption of food chains) and human impacts (e.g. creation
of jobs). A structure has been provided on the back of this sheet to help you.

Hint: Remember that Madagascar is a less developed country; the GDP per person is only $257. You need to
consider how you can help the country to generate income whilst also protecting the environment.

To be successful in this assessment you need to:

 Explain your points in detail

 Use evidence to back up your ideas
 Use keywords correctly (e.g. sustainable)
 Include a conclusion which justifies your choice
