1. On the map below shade on example of where you could find each type of biome

2. Explain the difference between the climate of a rainforest and the climate of a temperate
forest
3. Explain the difference between the climate of a desert and the climate of a grassland

4. Fill in the blanks using information from the graph

a) Pattern: In this area the temperature is usually hot (hot or cold)

b) Quantity: For example, the weather is usually between 26.5-27.5 (list numbers) degrees
Celsius.
c) Exception: A month where it is colder (hotter or cooler, opposite of the pattern) is February
d) Pattern: In this area the precipitation is usually Low (high or low)
e) Quantity: For example, the precipitation is usually between 100-300 (list numbers) millimetres.
f) Exception: A month where it is lower (higher or lower rainfall, opposite of the pattern) is
August
g) The biome that this graph best represents is Temperate Forest (Tundra, Tropical Rainforest,
Temperate Forest or Desert),
because it is mild and dry (is it
hot/cold or wet/dry)
5. Fill in the blanks using
information from the graph
a) Pattern: In this area the temperature is usually ___________ (hot or cold)
b) Quantity: For example, the weather is usually between ____________________ (list
numbers) degrees Celsius.
c) Exception: A month where it is _________________ (hotter or cooler, opposite of the pattern)
is ______________________
d) Pattern: In this area the precipitation is usually __________________ (high or low)
e) Quantity: For example, the precipitation is usually between ____________________ (list
numbers) millimetres.
f) Exception: A month where it is _________________ (higher or lower rainfall, opposite of the
pattern) is __________________
g) The biome that this graph best represents is _________________ (Tundra, Tropical
Rainforest, Temperate Forest or Desert), because __________________________(is it
hot/cold or wet/dry)

Average temperature map of the world

Focus – what is the focus of

the map?
Pattern – explain any
obvious patterns about the
spread of temperatures
around the world
Quantify – provide two
examples of countries and
their temperatures

Exception – Identify any

exceptions to the pattern
(what area doesn’t fit in with
the pattern?)
Knowledge – Use your
knowledge to explain WHY
the Earth’s temperatures look
this way
Choose ONE biome and summarise the key features using this graphic organizer
Climate of this biome – include rainfall and Examples of plants and animals in this
temperatures biome

Arctic foxes, moose, polar bears are

Cold and dry with permafrost covering the soil. common and moss, lichen, low shrubs are
About 250mm rainfall and temperature ranges common plants
from -30-10C

The permafrost that covers the ground restricts

the amount of drainage, waterlogging the soil Not much can be grown
and making it vbad for plants.

What can be produced in this biome? What

grows well in this biome?
Explain the soil in this biome
