Week 2 – The Scientific Method

Score: 35 points
Note: Answer only in bullet form.

1. DEFINE the SCIENTIFIC METHOD in your own words? Maximum of 3

sentences only. (5 pts.)

 The scientific method is a technique used to investigate natural phenomena. It

involves making observations, forming hypotheses, conducting experiments or
gathering data, analyzing the results, and drawing conclusions. This process
aims to uncover evidences and refine our understanding of the world around us.
2. NAME three (3) CHARACTERISTICS of a Scientific Method. (6 pts.)
Answers:
 Scientific methods are based on assumptions or hypothesis.
 Their findings are based on the empirical evidences.
 They are orderly and systematic processes.
LIST down the seven (7) Scientific Method Sequence; DESCRIBE each method. (14 pts.)
Answers:
 Observation- observing or identifying a pattern or phenomena in the natural world.
 Question- raising a question on the observable development or attempting to understand
certain aspects of it.
 Hypothesis- providing an insufficient explanation or calculated guess as a response to the
enquiry.
 Prediction- expecting the result or results someone would have expected if the hypothesis
were correct.
 Experimentation- developing and carrying out experiments to gather data and analyze the
theory.
 Analysis- coming to conclusions using an evaluation of the data gathered during the
experiment.
 Conclusion- Making interpretations from the data analysis that might result to the
hypothesis being modified, denied, or approved.
3. IDENTIFY the two (2) Types of OBSERVATION in the Scientific Method.Describe
each type and give an example. (10 pts.)

Answers:

1. Quantitative
Description: This type of observation deals with numbers or quantities. It's about
measuring or counting things.
Example: Measuring the weight of a substance or counting the number of times a
certain behavior occurs.

2. Qualitative
Description: This type of observation is about characteristics that cannot be
measured with numbers. It involves descriptions that do not contain
numerical values.
Example: Describing the color or texture of an object.
