DETAILED LESSON PLAN

IN
SCIENCE 6

Prepared by:
Lee-Ann M. David
BEEd 2B

Submitted to:
Barnie G. Cunanan
Instructor
I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
a. explain how gravity affects the movements of different objects.
b. value the significance of gravity and how it affects the movements of different
objects.
c. demonstrate how gravity affects the movement of objects.

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Effects of gravity on the movement of objects
Materials: laptop, PowerPoint presentation, materials for experiment
References: K-12 curriculum guide in science (Grade 1-10)

III. Procedures:

I. Preliminary Activities
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Opening Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Amen.
Amen.
B. Greetings
Good morning, class! Good morning, teacher!

Before you take your seats, please pick up the

trash that you see under your chairs.

Are you done?

Yes, teacher.
Okay, very good. You may now take your seats.

C. Checking of Attendance

May I ask the class monitor if there is absent No one is absent for today teacher.
for today?

Wow, that’s good to hear. Very good.

D. Review
E. Motivation

Before we start our lesson, I have prepared a

short video here, it’s a song class, so if you
know the song you can also sing along, okay?
(Plays the video)

Did you enjoy the video class?

Yes, teacher!
If that so, what do you think the video is all
about? Gravity, teacher!

Yes, very good. It is about gravity and that is

our topic for today.

II. Presentation

Gravity is the pulling force exerted by Earth on

all objects. This is a downward force toward
Earth.

When an object falls, its speed increases just

before it reaches the ground because of gravity.

Imagine when someone gave you a sudden

pull. Your body makes a quick movement
toward the person. This is the same with
gravity. A falling object experiences a
downward force due to gravity.

Gravity also affects objects that are thrown up

in the air.
Get a small rubber ball or a piece of crumpled
paper and throw it up in the air. When the ball
moves up, it reaches a certain height until it
falls toward the ground. The ball falls like a
regular falling object acted upon by gravity.
In this case, the ball experiences the force from
your hand and the force of gravity.

Take this dart pin as an example.

(Be careful with the sharp end of the dart pin.)
From afar, hit the bull's eye with the pin.

Observe the motion of the pin. Instead of going

straight to the target, the pin travels a curved
path. Gravity also affects the motion of the pin.
Even if you throw the pin horizontally, the
force of gravity still pulls it down.

To hit the target, the pin should be released at a

certain distance from the target. Aside from
curving its horizontal path, gravity also causes
the pin to move fast. In this case, the pin also
experiences the force from your hand and the
force due to gravity.

Shooting a ball in a basketball game also shows

an effect of gravitational force. The ball is also
affected by gravity.
Like any other object that is thrown upward,
the ball experiences a pulling force, thus giving
it a curved path until it falls to the ground. To
shoot the ball, the players throw it at a certain
angle from the basket.

Gravitational force also acts on stationary

objects or objects at rest.

For example, gravity acts on a box on a table.

This gravitational force brings about the weight
of the box. The reason the box does not fall into
the ground is the upward normal force that the
table exerts on the box.
The amount of normal force is equal to the
weight of the box.

Look at the picture of the box here. Normal

force and gravity act opposite to each other.
F. Application

Okay, did you all understand our lesson for Yes, teacher.
today?

If that so, I have prepared a short activity for

you to answer to understand more about
gravity.

Directions: Complete the following statements

by choosing the word that best completes the
following sentences from the parenthesis per
item. Underline the words you have chosen on
your answer sheet. Choose the correct answer.

1. Gravity (increases, decreases) the motion of

objects going down.
2. Gravity (increases, decreases) the motion of
objects going upward.
3. Gravity is (greater, lesser) if the mass of the
object is (bigger, smaller).
4. If gravity between two objects is (greater,
lesser), the movement or motion of
the object is (faster, slower).

Did you understand our lesson?

Okay, let me ask some questions. Okay?

G. Generalization

So, what is our topic for today? Effects of gravity on the movement of objects.

Gravity is the pulling force exerted by Earth on all

What is gravity again, class? objects.

very good, that’s correct.

H. Valuing

So, what did we learn today, class? I learned that gravity is what makes things fall to
the ground, like when I drop my pencil.

Very good. That’s correct.

Everything would float away into space!
What do you think will happen if we don’t have
gravity? We could jump really high and stay in the air
forever!
Yes, that’s true! Very good. What else do you
think will happen? We wouldn't be able to walk because there
wouldn't be anything pulling us down.

Yes, that is all possible when we don’t have

gravity, because gravity helps us in so many
ways in our daily lives.
So, you see, gravity is like our very own
superhero, silently working to keep everything
just where it needs to be. Yes, teacher!

Did you understand, class?

IV. Evaluation

I have prepared another activity here for you to learn more about gravity.

1. Gravity is a force that pulls objects with mass towards each other.
2. Gravity only exists on Earth.
3. All objects have gravity.
4. Gravity depends on the distance between objects.
5. Objects with more mass experience less gravity.
6. If you drop a feather and a rock from the same height, the feather will reach the
ground first.
7. Gravity is stronger on the Moon than on Earth.
8. Without gravity, objects would float away into space.
9. Gravity is only important for things in outer space.
10. Gravity affects the motion of planets but not of people.

V. Assignment

Design a poster illustrating the importance of gravity in maintaining balance in the

natural world.
