: factors Affecting The course Preference of grade

Senior High School Students’ Their Tertiary Education. Unpublished

Research Paper, of Yumbing National High School

This study employs quantitative research design specifically the

researchers used a descriptive design with the utilization of survey

questionnaires as a research instrument. This design was used since the main

purpose of the study is to determine if there is a factor affecting the course

course preference of grade 12 students in Yumbing national high school. The

following were the summary of findings: Majority of the respondents were

males (19 or 63.33%), belonged to the age bracket of 18 years old (15 or 50.00

%) and had chosen six strands. The respondents agreed on the factors affecting

course preferences in pursuing career path in tertiary education (TAWM=3.46,

SD=0.69). The standard deviation value of 0.69 validates that the responses of

the respondents were clustered. Among the ten indicators, top three were on

“The influence of my family and friends has a strong impact on my course

selection (Mean=4.00, Agree), “The reputation of the school significantly

influences my course preference (Mean= 3.83, Agree), and “My previous

academic performance has had a significant impact on my course preferences”

(Mean=3.80, Agree). There was a significant difference on the variable of strand

(F (5, 24) =4.32, p=0.01) on the factors affecting course preferences among

Grade 12 students in pursuing career path in tertiary education but not


significant in terms of sex (t-stat =1.57, p=0.13 >0.05), and age (F (2, 27) =0.35,

p=0.70) as tested at 0.05 level of significance.
