Good morning class! Good morning Ma’am!

Please take your seats. Thank you!

How are you today? Great ma’am

Good to hear that.

I’m going to check the attendance.

Please say present when your
name is called.

Please pass your assignments in

front. At the count of 10 all papers
must be in. 1, 2, 3,…,10. (Students pass their assignment)

B. Review on the past lesson

Let’s recall our lesson yesterday.

What was our topic yesterday? Yesterday, we discussed about the Pacific
Ring of Fire.
Very good!

What is the reason for the abundant The abundant mineral deposits in the
mineral deposits in the Philippines? Philippines is due to its location in

What is the Pacific Ring of Fire? The Ring of Fire is a ring of volcanoes
around the Pacific Ocean that result from
subduction of oceanic plates beneath
lighter continental plates.

Why are there minerals where there are Volcanoes directly or indirectly host
volcanoes? deposits of aluminium, diamonds, gold,
nickel, zinc and copper.
Very good!
C. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation
Have you ever wondered what powers our
house and electronic devices? Have you From Maria Cristina Falls.
ever wondered where electricity comes
from? How they are produced?

That’s correct! But water is not just the

source of energy to generate electricity.
There are other sources. Today, we will
discuss about that.
2. Presentation
Today, we will discuss about Energy
Resources.

Please read the objectives of our lesson.

At the end of the lesson, the learners will
be able to (Students read the objectives)
1. Relate the location of the
Philippines in the Pacific Ring of Fire to
the abundance minerals in the country.

3. Discussion
The tropical climate and the geological
conditions of the Philippines provide
several possibilities to get clean and
cheap energy.

Do you know which energy resources are Water, ma’am. The sun, also.
due to these factors?

Very good!

Some energy resources found in the

Philippines are solar energy, heat from the
ground (geothermal energy), hydrothermal
(energy from falling water), wind energy,
and natural gas.

Let’s first talk about solar energy. Do you Yes’ ma’am. From the word solar, it
know what this is? means energy from the Sun.

That is correct! Solar energy is energy that

comes from the Sun.

Do you know what this is?

That is a solar panel.

That’s right. This is a picture of a solar

panel. A solar panel is used to collect
solar energy to generate electricity.

This is a good source of energy since it

does not pollute the air. Solar energy does
not release harmful gas so it’s good for
the environment.

The downside for this is that solar panels

are expensive. Also, a huge piece of land
is needed in order to create a solar
power plant that will provide enough
power.

Next is the geothermal energy.

Geothermal energy is the Energy that
comes from the heat from the Earth.

The Philippines ranked second to the

United States in terms of geothermal
energy deposits. Why do you think do we
rank high in terms of geothermal Because we have many sources of heat
deposits? on earth.

Well, you have a point. But the reason is

because we have many volcanoes in the
Philippines. Because of this, it is easier to
collect geothermal energy. Why? Because
we do not need to dig deeper since we
can collect heat in the shallower part.

Do you get it?

Geothermal power plants are located in

Banahaw-Makiling, Laguna, Tiwi in
Albay, Bacman in Sorsogon, Palimpinon
in Negros Occidental, Tongonan in
Leyte, and Mt. Apo side of Cotabato.

Next is the hydroelectric energy. What do Water, ma’am. The Maria Cristina Falls.
you think is the source of this energy?

That is correct! This energy is collected

from flowing or falling water like in the
Agus. The energy comes from the falling
water in Maria Cristina Falls.

This s Look at this illustration. on 03-08-2024 05:42:42 GMT -06:00

So the water falls or flows toward the
turbine making it turn. This will collect the
energy. The energy will then be
transmitted towards the generator that will
generate the electricity. And then, the
transmission lines will carry the electricity
to Homes and Businesses.

Got it?
Yes, ma’am.
This is a clean way of generating
electricity. They provide for 27% of total
electricity production in the country.
Ambuklao in Benguet, Mt Province, Agus
in Lanao del Sur and Agus in Lanao del
Norte are larg hydrothermal power plants.
Small hydroelectric power plants are in
Caliraya, Laguna, Magat in Isabela, Loboc
in Bohol, and other places. Used water
from hydropower plants flows through
irrigation systems.

Let’s proceed to the next energy resource,

the Wind Energy. Did you know that wind No, ma’am. I just found out today.
can be a source of energy?

Well, are you familiar with this?

Yes, ma’am! Wind turbines.

Okay, very good!

These are wind turbines. They are used to

collect wind energy. This wind farm is
found in Ilocos. Do you know why wind
farms are only found in the Northern part
of the Philippines? Because they have strong winds there.

Very good! We need strong winds to
collect wind energy. The winds in Ilocos
are strong enough to make wind farms.

Any questions?
None, ma’am.
Now, on to the next Energy Source. The
last energy resource we will be discussing
is the fossil fuels.

Do you know what fossil fuels are?

Coal. Petroleum.
Good, what you have mentioned are
examples of fossil fuels.

Fossil fuel is a general term for

buried combustible geologic deposits of
organic materials, formed from decayed
plants and animals that were buried a
million years ago.

Examples of these are coal, natural gas,

oil and petroleum.

Fossil fuels are one of the top sources

used to generate electricity. However,
they are harmful to our environment. To
generate electricity, fossil fuels are
burned. This result in the releases of
gases that would pollute our air. Burning
fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide. This
is bad for our environment because the
increase in carbon dioxide causes
increase in the atmosphere’s
temperature.

Do you get it?

Yes, ma’am.
Any questions?
None, ma’am.
4.Activity
Form 7 groups. In your group, discuss (perform activity)
what energy resource is the best and why.
Choose a representative to share your
answer to the class.
5.Generalization
Again, what are the energy resources in Some energy resources found in the
the Philippines? Philippines are solar energy, heat from the
ground (geothermal energy), hydrothermal
(energy from falling water), wind energy,
and natural gas.

What is used to collect solar energy? Solar panels.

What is used to collect wind energy? Wind turbines.

Very good! Give yourselves a round of

applause.

IV. Evaluation
Instruction: Answer the questions below. Write your answers in a ¼ sheet of paper.
1. What is the energy resource that comes from the sun?
2. What is the energy resource that comes from the wind?
3. What is the energy resource that comes from the heat From the
Earth? 4-5. give two fossil fuels.

V. ASSIGNMENT

What is renewable and non-renewable resource? Write your answer in a ½ crosswise

paper.
