Sit-up Assisting Device

In this device, screw fastening is used. The type of screw used here is a nut and bolt. It is
used to hold the moving part with the bottom stand together. In this case, a rather large
diameter hex cap bolt is used. With a larger diameter bolt, the loading of the bolt will be
larger also. Since there is only this main bolt saw in this device. As the only one point joining
two parts together, it must bear a higher load.
Screw fastening is a type of fastening that is rather easy and convenient when assembling.
This device is delivered to our home as separate parts, with the screw fastener, it can be
easily assemble at home. Moreover, it can easily be disassembled when it is not used. Then it
is easier for storage.
For the material of the bolt, it must not be non-metal bolt. It is also least likely to be
aluminium since it is quite heavy. And it will not be stainless steel too since a little corrosion
is seen from the picture. Therefore, it is likely to be carbon steel bolt in this case.
On the other hand, since it is a device for working out at home, safety must be one of their
biggest concerns when producing. Safety of a product is always the concern of customers.
There is also a precaution sign seen from the picture. Although it is about preventing the
injury of hurting your fingers when you place your fingers there, this proves safety of this
device is always emphasis. Therefore, a nut and bolt rather than a normal screw is used in this
case. And a lock nut is also applied. With a lock nut, the bolt is least likely to be unscrew
when the upper part is moving. Especially with a moving part, it is normal to loosen the bolt
when there are vibration and the part keep moving. A lock nut is important to prevent the
situation. If the screw fastening can be easily unscrew, then it will be dangerous. Especially
when we are using the device and not paying attention to the joint of the device. Your head
may hit the ground when the device collapse and may cause other different kind of injury. So
far this device have been used for more than two years, it is still working well and there is not
any loosing part and screw especially.
Fan

In this device, screw fastening is also used, since it is the most common type of fastening can
be found at home. But in this case, the type of screw used here is not a nut and bolt but just a
normal and most common screw. It is used to hold the fan blades with the motor so when the
motor is started, the fan blades will move to create wind. A normal size screw is used in this
case since there is little load needed to bear compare to the device I just mentioned above.
And there is two more screw used on the other side where the photo cannot show. Then, they
can share the load they have to connect to the motor together.
Since screws are the easy and convenient fastener when assembling, they can be easily
assembled and disassembled just like what I have mention in the other device. For fans, it is
very common that people will remove the fan blades from the motor to clean the fan blade as
it is very easy to accumulate dust just like the fan in the photo. Especially when the fan is not
used in winter, more dust will be accumulated and it is needed to be cleaned every time
before it is used again in summer. Therefore, it is important for people to unscrew it easily
with common tools at home such as a screwdriver.
For the material of the screw, it must not be non-metal screw also obviously. It is very likely
to be carbon steel screw too since serious rusting can be seen in the picture. Therefore it must
not be stainless steel screw since it has superior resistance to corrosion.
