Midterm Plate 1 Tributary Loadings and Analysis of Determinate Trusses

Solve the following problems with complete solutions and diagrams. Box your final answers.

Part I. Tributary Loadings

Problem The frame is used to support a live load of 1.2 kPa. Thickness of concrete slab is 100 mm.
Weight of concrete is 24 kN/m3. Weight of beam BG is 4.5 kN/m and that of AD is 5 kN/m.

Problem 2
Solve previous problem for by replacing length of AB=BC=CD=HG=GF=FE to 2.5 m each.

Part II. Analysis of Trusses

Problem Determine the force in each member of the truss. All interior angles are 60 o. State if the
members are in tension or compression. Assume all members are pin connected.
Problem Determine the force in each member of the truss. State if the members are in tension or
compression. Assume all members are pin connected.

Problem Determine the force in members ED, BD, and BC of the truss and indicate if the members are in
tension or compression.

Problem Determine the force in members FG, GD, CD, and GA of the truss. State if the members are in
tension or compression.
Problem Determine the forces in members GH, HC, and BC of the truss. State if the members are pin
connected.

Problem Determine the force in members KJ, NJ, ND and CD of the K truss. Indicate if the members are
in tension or compression.
Problem Determine the force in each member and state whether the forces are in tension or
compression.

Problem Determine the force in each member and state whether the forces are in tension or
compression. (k = kips = kilopounds = 1000 lbs)
