FIELD STUDY 1: Episode 1 – The School Environment

Activity 1
As you move around the campus, provide an observation form to document your observation. A
good understanding of the activities and tasks to be accomplished in the activity sheets will yield a better
learning result.
1. Familiarize yourself with the different areas and facilities of the school. Check the column to
indicate their availability. Give a brief description of those that are available, and say how each

Activity 2 – Read the following statement carefully. Then write your observation report on the space
provided.

has.

Activity 3 – Answer the following questions:

1. Look at the walls of the classroom. What are posted on the walls? If there are no posted on the
walls write the reason why and suggest which is better with posts or none?
Ans: Based on my observation, the walls of the classrooms are plain, because of the
implementation of DepEd Order No. 21 so called “Oplan Baklas” in this order its guidelines for
Brigada Eskwela ordered schools to clear “school grounds, classrooms and all its walls of
unnecessary artwork, decorations, tarpaulin and posters. The only thing that posted on the wall is
the bulletin board. There’s a big impact for the pupils of said DepEd order especially to nurseries
and elementaries that's one of those Children get bored once there’s have no design in the
classrooms. The good impact to the children is that they can focus on what the teacher is
demonstrating because there aren't any distractions from their surroundings inside the classroom.
For me, as a Student Teacher I prefer to posted designs and Colorful walls that are covered in work
and educational posters so that it keep my students in class to engaged and awake and also to
motivate them.

2. Examine how the pieces of furniture are arranged. Where is the Teacher’s table located? How are
the tables and chairs/desks arranged?
Ans: The equipment in the classroom is well-made and neat, particularly the tables used by the
teacher, the seats and desks used by students, the dividers that hold papers, and even the broom
box. The afternoon assigned teacher’s table located at the back and the other table is located side in
front of the blackboard. So that it's well organized and it doesn't bother to those who walk inside.

3. What learning materials/equipment are present. Give the importance of having these in the
classroom.
Ans: The teacher use a digital instructional materials such as word processing software to create
documents, Powerpoint Presentation, online flashcards, interactive whiteboards and educational
games. Therefore, with the help of technology, the teacher use a television and mobile phone to
present her lesson to her pupils.

4. Observe the students. How many are occupying one room?

Ans: Each room is being occupied by a 42 pupils. Pupils as well are seated according to the teacher's
seat plan or the standard alphabetical seating orders. Students with vision issues, as well as those
who have difficulty hearing from a distance, are often advised to sit in front.

5. Is the room well-lit and well-ventilated?

Ans: Yes! Every room is well-bright, clean, and well-ventilated. The windows are kept open in the
morning to allow for fresh air, but students close them towards the end of class. The room features
three ceiling fans and lights. Overall, each classroom provides a comfortable environment for
children to learn well.

Activity 4 - Classroom Facilities Matrix

Be guided by these tasks as you do your observation. Then accomplish the matrix to record your
data.
Classroom Facilities Description (location, number, arrangement, condition)

its plains because of the guidelines for Brigada Eskwela in DepEd Order No. 21,

The learner's desks are made of wood in the colors blue and brown. The
Learner’s Desk/Chairs distance between the seats is about half a meter, which is appropriate for kids to
sit and write comfortably.
The board is divided in half so that there are enough places for the teacher to
write anything on the board that relates to her lessons. There are also chalks
Blackboard
and erasers placed in the center. Since they don't use the board regularly, the
board is as good as new.
There are no books or other learning resources available in the room, but
televisions are displayed on the walls. The teacher, however, uses screen

ANALYZE
1. How do the school campus and the classroom contribute a particular impact the learning of the
students in going to school? What are your conclusions?
Ans: Students' learning environments are the school campus and the classroom. As a result, what
makes up these two may have a direct impact on the pupils' learning process. Everything in the
school and classroom influences whether or not the student's learning is successful or unsuccessful.
At last, the actual setting, such as the place of school and classroom, is one of the factors that
contribute to children's educational experience. As a result, the school and teachers have to make
sure that these learning environments are helpful to learning.

2. How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent development? How does this relate
to your knowledge of facilitating learning?
Ans: The idea of educational settings having one of the most important factors in the success of
student learning is related to the idea of "nature vs. nurture" in child and adolescent development,
especially in terms of what "nurture" wanted to emphasize about the child's development. This
means that the school campus, as an important institution where students learn, has to provide
advantageous experiences for students and encourage them to develop their values and grow as
persons.

REFLECT
1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed? Why?
Ans: Yes, because even though I know there is still much to do, fix, and change in the schools, my
passion for teaching remains. It makes no difference what kind of school it is or how good it is, the
important thing is that I can share knowledge with my students that they will keep with them till
they grow up. Maybe the school is not in that condition right now, but I am going back to the school
where my knowledge developed and was appreciated by the children and my cooperating teachers.

2. What kind of school campus is conducive to learning?

Ans: A teaching-friendly school is a helpful environment for learning for kids. Even if the school
needs a lot of improvement, it is still safe and secure, safe for the environment, free of distractions,
and foremost, it must allow students to learn efficiently by encouraging them to be themselves,
independent, and leaders in their own way.

3. What kind of classroom is conducive to learning?

Ans:
- comfortable and brightly lit
- Dest are organized and functional
- allows for a pleasant learning environment
- learners are accepted and appreciated,
- and brings positively to learners

4. In the future, how can you accomplish your answer in number 3?

Ans: I accomplish those conducive learning in the future. First, through encouraging my pupils to
help clean the room to keep it clean. I also assist the pupils in becoming aware of their
responsibilities and duties, as well as practicing responsibility and collaborating when interacting
with others in their class. Second, creating an effective seat arrangement that changes each session
to help organize and manage the classroom. Third, embracing each student's diversity and
appreciating each student's uniqueness while effectively adjusting to their wants and teaching an
appreciation of values by doing the right thing in every aspect of their everyday lives. And lastly, is
to be an effective teacher who goes beyond what is expected of become models and leaders of the
school and society as a whole.

5. Write your additional learnings and insights?

Ans: A school is essentially a place where we study and learn. It is where we learn new things, get
helpful knowledge, create relationships, and develop important values in ourselves. To do all of this,
a school must provide a safe place for learning, encourage outstanding instruction, provide easy
access to instructional materials, and create chances for hands-on learning for kids.
