invertebrates.

A. Engage Ask the following questions:

pond?

Answer: Answers may vary.
 What have you observed from these animals?
Answer: Answers may vary./Some animals have backbone, without backbone,
with feathers, with legs, etc.

ACTIVITY
Classifying Animals

Learning target: At the end of the activity, I can classify


the animals according to their characteristics

Materials: (to be provided by the teacher)


(Comic strip of the animals with background information sheet)

Procedure:

1. Each group will read the comic strip of the kangaroo, hen, crocodile,
fish, frog, earthworm and spider.
 Let the learners fill out the table based from the
conversation.

Guide questions:

 What are the group of animals?


Answer: Animals with backbones and animals
without backbones.

 What Animals did you write under with backbone? And what about those under
without backbone?
Answer: Animals we write under with backbone are kangaroo, hen, crocodile,
frog and fish. And animals we paste under without backbone are spider and
worm.

 How do you classify the animals?


Answer: According to their characteristics.

 What do you call to the animals with backbone?


Animals without backbone?
Answer: Animals with backbones are
vertebrates, while animals without backbones
are called invertebrates.

 What other animals can you identify with backbones and without backbones?
Answer: Animals with backbone are pig, parrot, frog, fish,
dove, Crocodile, bat, tuna, Turtle. Animals without backbone
are starfish, Squid, centipede, corals, Spider, sponges, sea urchin,
Earthworm

C. Explain * A representative from each group will present the


group output.

 The scoring rubric will be used in rating the


performance of each group. (see attached scoring
rubric)

D. Elaborate * Ask the following questions:

* What are the two (2) groups of animals?


Answer: The two groups of animals are
vertebrates and invertebrates.

 What are the characteristics of vertebrate animals and give examples.


Answer: Vertebrates are animals with backbone. All vertebrates
have left and right sides of the body which are alike.
Vertebrates have two pairs of limbs.
 What are the examples of vertebrate animals?
Answer: Dogs, Cats, Carabaos, Cows, Goats, Pigs, Hens, hawk, owl,
crocodile and turtle.
 What are the characteristics of invertebrate animals and give examples.
Answer: Invertebrates are those animals without backbone.
Examples are insects, caterpillar, Spiders, Scorpions, Squids.

E. Evaluate Direction: In a one half (1/2 ) sheet of paper answer the


following.
