Check-List for Navigating in Confined Waters

1 Preparations for navigating in confined waters □


Has a confined water passage plan been drawn up? □
Have checks been made of the nautical charts and course line? □
Have the land or sea marks for altering course and the danger
evading line been established? □
Have draft and trim been adjusted? □
Have currents, tides, etc. of the confined sea area been calculated? □

2 Have operation tests of main engine been carried out? □


3 Is the whistle in good working order? □

4 Is the position at which to call the Capt. marked on the nautical chart? □

5 Has the Capt. been notified? □

6 Has the Chief Engineer or the Duty Engineer been notified? □

7 Is the main engine on "S/B Eng."? □

8 Is the steering gear on parallel operation and has steering been switched to manual? □

9 Are radar and ARPA in good working order? □

10 Are the stationing of lookouts, and lookout being properly carried out? □

11 Have signal lights been made ready in the day time? □

12 A listening watch on VHF (Ch.16 or the specified channel) being maintained? □

13 Are reports being made in accordance with the reporting system? □

14 Has the signal to denote a deep draft vessel been hoisted (when necessary)? □

15 Are depth soundings of water depths being taken? □

A laminated copy of the check list shall be used for the checks. Reference of
compliance with the check list shall be noted in Log Book. In event of any
incidence a photo copy of filled up checklist shall be preserved.
